He's like someone scared of spiders confronting a tarantula the size of a house.

It is virtually a disabling condition.

Yeah, unfortunately.

Pretty sure his shank on goal was his only kick.

In some ways, it was actually quite sad to watch...

Oh well, some you win, some you lose.

We need another tall forward in our team, but it won't happen this season.

Hopefully Shaw or Harvey can start putting their hand up next year, cause I dare say Butcher's gone.

I thought Butchers kicking action looked very different so he's obviously trying change.

Our game style doesn't really bring KPF into the game

He is mentally shot. It is sad to watch. His body let him down after 2011 and he has always been playing catch up since.

We can't afford to keep him on the list hoping that his kicking is going to come good one day. The harsh reality is that it never will.

I would hate for us to lose a close game due to Butcher not making the distance from 20 metres out (like his kick today in the 2nd qtr).

I think it is in our and Butch's interests to part ways. I know he is contracted next year but he is not going to get a game ahead of Shaw and Harvey over the next few years.

We are completely ****** if we lose either Schulz or Westhoff for any length of time over the next couple of years because the coaching staff have totally ignored tall forward development. None of our developing talls are getting near it so naturally none of them will get picked, and we'll continue to lose games at AFL level because we don't have adequate talls.
No need to further embarrass yourself . Shaw and Harvey are developing nicely.

As for Butcher, well we have 3 options:

1. Trade for pick 40-50
2. Persist and de-list in 2015
3. Try him as 3rd tall defender depth

As much as I like Butch and as much as I wish he would succeed, I can honestly say I dont think he will ever play regular AFL football with us. Let him go elsewhere and wish him all the best.

I have always read the stats and bf posters views on Butcher's Magpies performances hopeful of hearing he's torn the house down and will be due to get a gig in the seniors. But alas it seems it's just not going to be with his body, kicking etc. It's probably time to move him on if we can.

As Macca noted in the Magpies thread, Shaw moves well for a big unit.

Pretty smooth. Dunno if we'll see him in a Power guernsey this year.

Harvey showed a bit early but is at least another pre-season away.

Banking on "potential" for Butch to have any trade value...

Mental yips aside, it's staggering Butch hasn't been able to develop anything approaching a consistent physical kicking motion.

After Tredders worked with Ben Perkins he lost some range and was hardly a deadeyed dick, but his action was like clockwork and his accuracy did improve. For all the work put into Butcher, with the analysis and taping of his action from all angles, he still comes in for goal with all the predictability and assuredness of an old duck pulled out of the Whose Line audience.

Is he just uncoachable?

It has been all over for a long time with Butche bar the shouting. It is a pity anyone who puts on a Port jumper you want them to suceed but some simply dont. Port are in diabolical trouble with their big man forward structure. Cant really see them as a real threat until something big is done here. Compared to Sydneys forward line we are in the football ghettos!

Bloody shame, he's a good kid.
Yes he is. I bought this up a couple of weeks ago that Butchs situation was being handled very well at club level. This was always bigger than just his on field performance. Boydy gave me a bath when i raised this but my original post and EL will agree was posted as the club wont play him till he is ready. Boydy i also said the Tiggers were crap and we will punish them, so one all. I never started this post saying Butch wouldnt make it, but if you revisit i clearly state not as a savior tall forward. My greatest fear this year is Butch being picked in the side and delivering a performance (unseen by myself) as today. We started this year with John lining up and no doubt he was part of the big picture moving forward. It didnt work. My thoughts are with John at present and how good is our footy department handling this. Really well thats how.

As I said even before today's game it's in the best interests of Butch and the club to part ways. I don't think we're the right fit for him and a new environment might be what he needs. If we hang onto him for another year and he doesn't improve he's as good as finished in the AFL system.

I still don't think Shaw will be blooded this year bar extreme circumstances. Don't think even Hinkley has the balls to make that move when a top 4 spot is on the line.

Hmmmm, heard an interesting 3rd hand run down of Butch a few weeks ago.

Sounds like young John simply doesnt lsten to guys trying to help him. When you are being 'advised' by one of our best ever and you simply ignore the advice, makes me wonder what's going on between the ears.

For all his failings with respect to set shot kicking, it doesnt explain his lack of 'intensity' for such long periods of games.

This is one of the sadder footy stories.
Picking up a 18yo gangly, awkward tall forward with a poor kick was always a going to be a rough road.
I think we owe to Butch to persevere for another year although I would like to try him in another role.

I've been patient with him for a long time, but he's gotta go. Simply not good enough for AFL level. That kick in the 2nd quarter today made me cringe; it was absolutely horrible, and sums up how much he's developed that kicking style since he first came on the scene 5 years ago --- nada. He can try and try as much as he wants, but he's never going to be a solid tall forward at AFL level. Cut our losses now. Would love to pull a Barry Brooks and get a pick for him but I doubt any list manager would be stupid enough to do that. In that case, I'd delist him. We have Shaw and Harvey who are showing more than watch Butcher is right now. Let's not keep Butcher up in the pecking order just because he was a first round pick who kicked 6 goals a number of years ago. Since then, he's done nothing.

As for suggestions to try him in the back line, I wouldn't even consider it. His kicking is terrible, and could lead to a number of turnovers in the back line resulting in goals for the opposition. If you're going to try him in another position, I'd throw him in the ruck. Would rather just get rid of him though...

Cut him some slack on this one.

Would kicking with his left foot take away the nerves and triple his accuracy.
Martial artists who break wood totally ignore it and aim for spot behind it
If he aimed to land it in a rubbish tin in the first row and totally ignored the goalposts......
I dunno I have run out of ideas
But bet last game when the writing is on the wall and it don't matter anymore he kicks 8 goals in the SANFL
Does anyone know if the club has actually had a sports psyche in or have we just concentrated on his action
