Well I finished in front, but only had the two bets, the quinlla with Miss Finland and Pompeii and then I backed the Cat each way. I love the cat, and will put something on him each time he goes around. Even better with Ollie on board too. Great to see, he had a great day.

Seth - do you back thoroughbred horses, and if not, do you think it benefits you in having a clearer judgement and assessment of horses and races seeing you're not talking through your pocket like the majority....

Furthermore do the professional form analysts pout there hard earned on the horses they pick for the 1000's of subscribers....

I lost...but I feel for the two people with live Mystery 6 tickets (including one on the shorty Spielmeister) going into the last who missed grabbing that million dollar lemon from Tabcorp. Also feel for the majority of punters who hate the bet and would have seen it axed once the jackpot went off!!

I do bet on thoroughbreds but I would have max 2 bets/week.
My bets tend to come from people who do this for a living.
Im not a large punter on thoroughbreds.
I find it impossible to keep up with the form, theres too many horses.
Harness Racing has clear patterns & there are less horses to keep tabs on.

There is absolutely no doubt that you view races/form completely differently if youre not ruled by the punt.Try it for a week, youll soon see.
Youre watching them anyway.

Cant answer this one, never bought a system or subscribed to a ratings service.Know plenty who have & theyre still looking.IMO the only decent system is one you develop yourself & test over 1000's of races.Youre a young guy,if you plan to do this start now, testing on paper.
If you are successful, would you sell it? Of course not.

Very sound advice.

Thats an interesting comment, one I certainly agree with. Particularly in Victoria at the moment with 7 day a week racing, and an abundance of metro meetings of different standards. The pros can probably keep up with the Terang Monday winners who come to the Valley and win on a Friday night, but its pretty tough for most to be on top of.

At the same time, harness racing tends to be a game that serves up more short priced runners and much more dependent on times, trials and race patterns.

But if you're in the know in the harness racing industry, then you have a better chance. But there will always be an argument about harness/gallop betting. Always has been. They do pay more because of the bigger pools, but sometimes it is just as easy to have a couple of bets on the ones you know.

I don't bet that big, and thank god because I tend to get a favourite horse and back it often. ie: Pompeii Ruler and Apache Cat, or I have my favourite trainer/driver/jockeys.

There are so many different systems people use. Wouldn't it be lovely to get the perfect one each week? hehehe. :thumbsu:

:D

Its true that often in harness racing there appears to be only 2-3 chances in many races according to the market.
But remember,punters love favourites,everyone's looking for a "quick/easy $"

Harness racing formguides are light years behind the gallops.
But the last lap videos are free for a horses last 4 runs,at the click of a mouse at every Victorian meeting.

Whats a better guide, statistical comment or seeing what actually happened?
Sure its a hard slog but what would you rather be doing?
Its amazing how quickly you get to know the horses, only 1 or 2 metro meetings/week.

im not in a bad mood mate, ive lost money but not nearly as much as i have before....

Im a big follow of Magic Instinct, and so too ar emany on this board who followed it last prep, but at the distance it wasnt a shot clear as that....

lol, Churchill downs just didnt race at his best, Magic Instinct did but at the distance is no good...

Hey, haven't posted for a while mainly because our horses have been in the paddock. Absolutely thrilled with the run of MI today, and to be honest have to agree with Helmie because we knew it would be far too short for him. Saying that he got a lot closer than we thought... He really is in great condition though and looks in for a great campaign.

Also had another winner at Newcastle in a modest maiden today but she goes really really good. Look out for her in town next start as she progresses towards the Adrian Knox / Oaks.

Cheers

Who was it that was bagging King Of Ashford after the Sandown Classic?
"overated hack" from memory.

yes seth i will accept this but i made this comment about 3 months ago!!! dont get carried away mate, he has only won a weak race at caulfield against average horses. when i say "over-rated" this was when he was competing in a group 2 event where he was racing against far better horses.

i will also accept mf defeat today but you cant sack her just yet!!

I reckon sometimes harness racing suffers because of the form in the TABs pushes mug punters into the fancied runners (or it creates the fancied runners), particularly the Bill Hutchison tips, anything he selects tends to be under the odds. Im not sure he tips favourites, I reckon he creates them.

Thanks Helmie. GO OLLIE! His back in town!!!!
did he ever leave :D

Seriously though, I wonder if most people fell into the trap that just because its Ollie that you thought it wouldnt take long for him to get back to full form/fitness rather than realising after so long injured that ii was gonna take time after all.

Well GF,what did you honestly think of MF's effort today?
Ill give you 1st crack at it,then Ill reply with my thoughts ok?

As for King Of Ashford, you are correct that he didnt beat much today.
Fact is that he was better than those, isnt it ironic that they bet $12.
No,I didnt back the horse but it was a soft win today.

His run in the S Classic was very good IMO,he was given no hope.
I was surprised you bagged the trainer, unless he told the jockey to come from last.Hardly the horses fault but we are obviously talking semantics here.

Footyman, the 1st thing I do at every harness meeting is check Hutchy's quad.If it looks anything like mine,I dont take one.
Your correct,he's the supposed authority & his comments are easy to read.
But it's more that his are the only selections apart from the caller.
He's paid to tip winners so he's hardly gunna tip someone into a $21 chance that he believes should be $8.What does he get,a pat on the back & 13 points shavesd off the divi.

Theres much rejoicing when Hutchy's out in the 1st leg,at least theres a divi to be had.

Great minds think alike! I was just coming on here to give it to that person. Seriously, credit to him for acknowledging it.
No doubt King Of Ashford is a good horse. Not up to group 1 but definitely just below that. Was interested to see him go to Freedman but now it has, there's no doubt he will have several more good wins in him this year. He is a favourite of mine.

He was on par with Maybe Better that day!!!
Yesterday wasn't that bad a field that he beat either.

yes i thought she was dissapointing. weather she was a bit dour after her last start win in the oaks, or she was a bit flat after that tough preparation, who knows...we will get a better guide as she has more runs this time in.

yes i bagged the trainer and now look, o he is under someone elses wing, what a surprise. he beat horses that were either below average or stayers resuming so to me he is still an "over-rated" horse in group 2 events.

go fullta; yes i thought she was dissapointing. [B said:
Ok,credit to you at least for not trotting out "the rail was off" rubbish.
IMO if she had to go round horses she would have run near last
Even Hayes didnt bag the ride, for a change.

She may be a bit dour but lets be honest, who's fault is that?
Youd be hoping she needs a trip now because on that performance she couldnt beat any of the placegetters this prep, all had way tougher runs.
Marasco sat 3 & 4 wide the entire race & ran past her.
Aqua D'more missed the start 3 & beat her home again, she was also 1st up.

I wonder if Dubai's still on the agenda?
She's now had 2 goes out of her own age & hasnt placed.
Futurity looks like crunch time.I stand by my statement, champion 3yo filly.
