I've had a shocker of a day at work.. but I'm confused? What are you talking about 8.30? It's only going to be on at 23.59 on channel 7 isn't it?

I hadn't noticed that before..

I am going to the pub to pass the time.. that way I can come home quite boozed and watch the game.. I am lucky (or unlucky) that most of my friends here don't give a toss about the AFL so they wont be telling me any scores!

I have ****ing plans on saturday night, and people are just gonna come up to me and say how about the eagles today god dammit

Dear Pantskyle,

Thank you for taking the time to send us your feedback.

Under the current AFL Rights Agreement the round 10 clash between Collingwood and the West Coast Eagles is a Channel 7 scheduled match. FOX SPORTS does not have the rights to broadcast the match LIVE on a FOX SPORTS Channel or Main Event. As you referenced in your email FOX SPORTS will be broadcasting the match on delay at 8.30pm AEST on FOX SPORTS 1HD & FOX SPORTS 1.

Next year however the new AFL Rights Agreement will allow FOX SPORTS to broadcast LIVE all matches of the 2012 Toyota AFL Premiership Season.

Many thanks,

This seems the normal response.

Just got a phone call from channel 7. He said that they are showing the adelaide game blah blah.

I asked if the game could be shown on main event. He said 'not at this late stage'. So basically he was saying that if they'd been organised it could have been. He said that he wasn't sure there was the demand for it as they hadn't heard anything from foxtel. I pointed out to him that 518 is showing the same thing all day, thus guaranteeing the demand for the game exceeding the demand for pay-per-view UFC. I told him many viewers would love for it to be organised to be put on 518, which wouldn't costs ch7 anything. He again said 'not at this late stage' (ie. it's Thursday and I CBF).

Good try. Lame excuse by C7. Seriously, I am so over C7's coverage of AFL. The only way I think pubs will be able to show it is if they tap into regional coverage and link it in that way. I have seen that happen before.

Thanks to everyone that has helped out during this debacle.
The imput has been great unfortunately the responses have been average.
At least we know this won't happen over the next few years.

After a few phone calls to the AFL I have gotten to the root of the problem.

Under the current TV deal, C7 are obliged to show either Brisbane or the Sydney match when they are playing on a Sunday even if Fox are telecasting the game. They are then contracted to show a replay of their 2.10 live match that day (it can be at any time).

As Adelaide are playing Brisbane on Sunday, Sydneysiders are denied the right to watch the Collingwood vs West Coast match.

C7 has no deal with Foxtel to allow them to show the match live on the Fox Main Event channel 518, however, that is not to say pressure from the public can't change that for the remainder of the 2011 season.

All I can say is thank goodness Fox can show every game live from 2012 onwards.

Just shot this off to the papers.

Hi

I have a huge issue with Channel 7 not showing the "Match of the round" Collingwood vs West Coast this Sunday until 11.59pm in NSW and QLD.
The Pies and Eagles fans have teamed up to bombard Channel 7 and Foxtel into working out a way to show this game either live or much earlier then the 11.59pm Channel 7 timeslot and the 8.30pm Foxsports timeslot. We have suggested to Channel 7 that they could allow Foxtel to show live on Channel 518. We have found that Foxtel basically can not do anything unless Channel 7 give the go ahead. We have also found out that Channel 7 don't seem to give a shit about our suggestions and have basically shot down the suggestion to broadcast this game at a suitable time. Our last resort is to contact the papers and hope that any sort of negative publicity will get the networks to come up with the easy solution for this game.

Anything you can do guys would be epic.

Cheers

Here was my email:

Thank you for taking the time to send us your feedback.

FOX SPORTS is a broadcast partner of the AFL along with Channel 7 and Channel 10. Under the current broadcast agreement, FOX SPORTS is allocated up to 4 live matches each round by the AFL and FOX Sports is not given the choice of which matches can broadcast.

These 4 matches are broadcast Saturday afternoon, Saturday evening, Sunday afternoon and Sunday evening (the Twilight match).

Occasionally either Channel 7 or 10 will choose to simultaneously broadcast the same AFL match as FOX SPORTS. In this instance FOX SPORTS is unable to show an alternative match as our broadcast agreement stipulates that we must show those games allocated to us by the AFL.

FOX SPORTS and FOXTEL understands our viewers’ passion for AFL and remains committed to providing the most comprehensive AFL offering for fans with our popular magazine shows AFL Teams, On the Couch, AFL Winners and Before the Bounce .

Once more thank you for taking the time to contact us, you can leave your programming feedback http://www.foxtel.com.au/support/feedback-complaints/programming-feedback/default.htm or speak to our FOXTEL Representatives on 131 999. They are available to talk to you from 7.30AM to 11PM (EST), everyday.

Yours sincerely

As I've said before in this thread it's got nothing too do with fox, it's all greedy ass channel 7 fault, it's been like this since the last rights were signed, this isn't the first time an eagles game has been blacked out in nsw..

I couldn't accept that I would have to wait until midnight to see a delayed telecast of the game. I just decided to use my Qantas frequent flyers to get a flight down to Melbourne on Sunday to watch the game live at the MCG. Will be sitting somewhere near the goals and hopefully away from the Collingwood supporters. I was wanting to come down to Melbourne for a game but not thinking it would be this one.

Lets hope that we in Sydney and Brisbane never miss out on live telecasts again from next year.

So, you wasted 22,000 frequent flyer points when you could have flown to Melbourne for less than $300? If you had Foxtel you would know the game is being shown at 8.30pm. You must be an accountant.

Thats what my points are for. To use them when I need them for something like this. Sometimes you have to look beyond the cost or points used and do what makes you feel good. As for waiting until 8.30pm for a game delayed by 6 and half hours I'll let you have that. I will be thinking of you (not) when I am singing the club song at the post match function and you will still be at home waiting for the delayed telecast.

It's bloody ridiculous that 2nd vs 6th in the most intriguing match of the round isn't being shown till 8.30pm/12am on Foxtel/Channel 7 in NSW and QLD because the Lions are playing at 1pm on the same day.

Of course some small part of me really wants to channel surf between Fox Sports 1, Channel 7 and Prime and watch the Crows vs Lions match with different watermarks! Now I get my chance, yes f***ing yes my dream has come true!

Screw Channel 7…I’m going to go hike up a mountain all day, no coverage there, then 8.30 it’s 'live' bounce-down time…*annoyed Gold Coast West Coaster* Hell I don’t even get to see us push GC Suns around at Metricon this season..next years foxtel broadcast deal can't come soon enough.
