Can we afford to trade, Mitchell, Sewell or Lewis.

Dennis Armfield for Lewis.

If you are trying to get me upset this is the way to go about it.

Why can't we keep Lewis again?

I think for the problems we have at our club, the solution is not going to be found at the trade table.

We can keep Lewis. From the title of the thread though I'd trade Lewis for Armfield. Not saying i'd trade him. But if it was only between the three listed in the title then i'd say Lewis

That makes about as much sence as this thread.

I liked the look of Pederson in the VFL yesterday. Everything that came his way he would mark. And that was in the wet and mud, it puts our current backline (Except Stratton) to shame.

We def need to stregthen our back line. Maybe it is time for rough to go back and bring in Lisle or Skipper as Roughs replacement.

Big Max, hopefully gets a good pre season into him and then it is the Max/Renough/Grimley show, which free's up Skip for a forward line role.

I think Guerra has had his day.

Big changes over the summer, hopefully th eclub makes the right changes.

My boss has spoken to Paul Connors this morning, and the BIG NEWS is that Tarrant is either going to HAWTHORN or CARLTON. He wants to return to Melbourne 100%.

Theirs no secret, our midfield lacks pace, should we trade of one of the three players mentioned above, for a quick, run the lines type of player, either through a trade or a first round draft pick.
Rubbish. Get hold of Tarrant who.s turned into a great defender. There are still some youngsters to come along . A top AFL player can take up to 5 years to develope properly.
We were lousy and our kicking is disgraceful that should be looked at.
Our injuries haven't been looked after properly since we won the flag.
Some of our players have thought that it just keeps flowing , success that is , it doesn't.
Maybe the coaching staff need to really becaome hard nasty bastards.
Hawthorn are not a piss weak pack that can't handle pressure any one who thinks like that is simply not a Hawk, and we had some crazy idiotic losers mindset on Saturday and I can't beleive it. This bullshit of playing with only 20 fit players ,tough luck thats footy that is not an excuse.
Something drastic is needed at Glenferrie folks (Waverly) because we won a GF 2 years ago. I thought our year was pretty crappy after that rotten 2009 then we seemed to pick up then when it counts we are garbage again . This goes beyond the feild and the players the set up is not working or do we think we are better than we really are?
I don't think a clean out of people is the go ,I think the clean out of some thought processes might be the thing, if there is a problem inside the club ( and I saw something strange in that last quarter a weird look from one of our players then a half hearted pass.)
If we have internals FIX THAT TOO.
Every one over here in WA thought Hawthorn was simply too good to lose thid game 17 bloody premiership players against a bunch of kids mostly, bloody good kids of course.

May as well trade Buddy as well, he only kicked 2 golas on the weekend

I love how ppl on this board rate Jordan Lisle and Bailey higher then Mitc, Sewell, and Lewis

go watch the 08 GF and see how goof Sewell is, watch any game to see how good Mitch is, and Lewis is a good tough player,

this is the 2nd stupiest thread i have read after the one saying geeting burger was a mistake, as we could have got KANE LUCAS

Well said Mark1234 . Somethung needs fixing these guys are champs, we don't throw the baby out with the bath water.Sacking the whole freaking club is not an answer.

We won every stat yesterday, it's the 1.11 that lost it for us..FGS..Goals are what win you premierships and games.. our conversions have been pretty average this year....we just had a bad day at the office. As I have said before, the sun will come up tomorrow, and life goes on!!
We've had too many bad days at the office.Perhaps not practicing ridiculous Peter Daicos
goal kicking might help a bit.
This is what our game has come to , the DSA syndrome (the Daicos smartarse syndrome)
it creates players who can't kick long or outside goals or set shots, and none of them could get a game playing soccer, primadonnas.
400 set shots practised every 2nd day, they get paid enough they,re professionals , learn to damned well kick. Then you can be footballers, even if Dim and Anderson don,t like real footy.

Wow. Just wow.
I reckon he's close to number 1 in the league for clattering into the back & right up there for high tackles. Gets very wound up, the big fella, and quite poor tackling technique.

I think for the problems we have at our club, the solution is not going to be found at the trade table.
Agree.
I'd give Winderlich (or Stanton) + our 2nd rounder (about 5 bazillion) for Lewis fwiw.

I agree midfield pace is our biggest definciency. Mitch and Sewell are untouchable though.

The only trade I would entertain for Lews is for Chris Knights.

Absolute rubbish, your all talking out your butt's. To think your going to Trade any of these three is a joke, but the amount willing to trade lewis is stupid.

lewis stat's this year at the club
marks 136 1st
kicks 272 3rd
handballs 232 2nd
disposals 504 3rd
He will poll in our top 5 at the B&F

Pull your head's out the problem is NOT with the Middle or the main forwards the PROBLEM is the limited impact from the following areas, Forward Pocket's, Forward Flanks, Back Flanks, Back Pockets

out of the blokes who play in these positions the following should be
Safe
birchall
ellis
young
WX
rioli
peterson (improve tackling)
hooper
brown(if not at GC)
stratton

looked at as trade or just moved on
osborne
ladson
guerra
bateman
Moss
Muston(probably should have got more goes)
Dowler
Morton

I personally love the "Lewis has discipline problems" line.

Some of our supporters are stuck in the 2007-8 period where he was randomly punching players for no good reason ie Daniel Pratt.

Since then, and the numbers above support this, his energies have been invested in hunting the ball. I wonder which other teams would contemplate trading a player that will most likely be top 5 in our BnF this year. All because he doesn't have pace lol.

I'd keep all three. We do need some more pace though.

Peterson and Hooper should be betetr next year, providing better forward pace and pressure.

Any chance we could mould Changa into a small back pocket type to play on guys like Shnieder, Milne, Stokes, Byrnes, Davis, Thomas, Giancira... ?

At least that would inject some more run into our back half.

We could then promote Savage/JKT onto the wing and try to trade for an extra midfield quick as well.

Its amazing what people are saying on these footy threads ATM. To mention trading Sewell/Mitchell/Lewis is shear stupidity. Hawthorn have a very healthy list with a few gaps as follows which I am sure they will be addressing come trade week/ draft day.

Backline -
Isnt as bad as what people say. Really lack one big bodied defender to play full back capable of playing on Barry Hall / Fev / Jack Riewoldt etc. Murphy has improved out of sight and had become a very good defender. Strats well what can I say and Gibson I believe is capable of playing on the 2nd tall. Campbell Brown is gone and Whitecross will take Browns spot down back. I believe we need to use whatever we get for Brown as trade bate for Chris Tarrent. Tarrent wants to come home to Melbourne and would be just what we need to play last line in defence for the next 2-3 years until Shoey can step up and be in the best 22. Is going to be a battle with Carlton to gain his services so we need to move onto this now and make it happen. At the minute we struggle at one on ones in the backline (as Gilham is currently taking the no1 tall on the last line and he just doesnt have the strength) and Having Tarrent / Gibson taking no1/2 with Gilham to take the 3rd tall I believe our defence would be alot stronger!

Midfield -

Why is everyone complaining about our midfield? We currently have one of the best midfields in the comp with a good combination of inside players (sewell/Mitchell/Lewis) and outside runners (Burger/Rioli/Young/Ellis). Get another full preseason into Rioli...plus a full preseason into Young / Burger and I think you will find that we will have the perfect mix. Bateman could be the only questionable one there with his age and his legs not getting any faster! The only thing we need is for the guys in Box Hill to be pushing for selection. This year we only really had Shiels ready to come into the team when an injury occured so we really need improvement from Savage / Duryea/Muston/Tuck/Kayler-thompson so that when an injury occurs (as they do) that we have a ready made replacement!

Rucks -

Renouf I believe has come on in leaps and bounds and is really starting to become a very good ruckman. His efforts around the ground are excellent and he can take a good contested mark (unlike another ruckman in our side :) Skipper performed beyond expectation and really did cement his place in the side. However we really do need a giant in the middle to be able to give us first use of the ball in the middle. Taylor isnt the answer. Bailey if fit has the potential if his body holds up and a ruck combo of Bailey/Renouf would be more than enough. Lowden and Grimley are project players and are still a while away but should turn into very good ruckman 2-3 years down the track.

Forward line -

Rough and Bud and great key pos forwards. We need Rough to improve by about 15-20%. 53 goals or whatever he kicked this year is a good return but if we can get him to kick a little straighter and increase his average to 3 goals a game (65-70goals) and get him to have a bit more moungral in him to hit packs a bit harder and make opposition defenders / guys dropping back to fill the holes think twice about putting there bodys on the line then he would fill his role in the team. We really need him to be that big bodied Full-forward that we can set the forward line up around. Buddy will be buddy and I think the only Hole we have is that 3rd tall (which is why they were giving games into Morton which didnt work out). I believe with his leap Peterson will act as that 3rd tall until that hole could be filled. We need to play Peterson and Hooper every week! These guys are quick and add the required pace into the side. If hooper can play close to 22 games then this allows Rioli to spend more game time in the middle!

Conclusion -

Things arent as bad as they seem. Yes it was dissapointing to bow out first week of the finals but we were never going to win it from 7th spot. Get that full-back we need (Tarrent??), get full preseasons into Rioli/Young/Burger/Peterson/Hooper/Bailey and if we can get guys outside the best 22 to push for selection then I think you will find us sitting in the top 4 ripe and ready for a finals series come the conclusion of round22 in 2011!!

Keep the faith guys and go the Hawks in 2011!!:thumbsu:
