Can you beat Judd's time?

Re: Can you beat Judd's time? ** MB Thread moved here**

perspective please - Judd's time would be considered C grade in running ranks. The top middle distance runners do it in less than 9 minutes.

the most credentialled (ex)football runner has to be Tim Clarke (Geel,Haw) who still holds a few junior records. He did 1500 in 3.51 as a 16 yr old and I'm guessing he would have done Prinnie Park in about 8.40 at his peak.

FWIW I was a B grade runner and did it in 9.20 from memory.

... still, a good effort from Judd
Whats a B grade runner do?

what events and stuff were you running?

on a track i run 3k just under 9 30, while one of my mates (a national finalist in the 400 freestyle) ran it just above 9 mins on track

Craig Mottram holds the state record for 3000m 7.32 .... that's flying. ie. he's running exactly 60sec laps so he'd almost lap you twice.

A further review of the records show Ian Prendergast (Carl) still holds the U/13 state 1500m record @ 4.22 from 1993. I'd like to know how quick he ran Prinnie Park?

Interesting post. I am 60 next week so can't do it now but when I was in my late 20's (during the 70's) could complete the 3,000 metres steeplechase in 10.15secs and 5,000m on the track in 15.40secs As a hobby:D

Isn't steeplechase like horse racing? And your 3,000 meters should be about 9minutes if your covering almost a km every 3 minutes over 5000 meters.

My best time so far was 2.5km in 10m30s. That was whilst doing interval training. Maybe I could push towards 11minutes for 3km if I maintained the high interval. Don't know how I'd pull up though.

Re: Can you beat Judd's time? ** MB Thread moved here**

The 3000 metres steeplechase comprises 3 x 3'high (solid) barriers and one water jump per 400 metre lap for 7 1/2 laps. lap times are always slower for this event than say a flat race.was a long time ago I did it but it's bloody tough going. you have to be very fit

Re: Can you beat Judd's time? ** MB Thread moved here**

most people on here would of never ran princess park...
also 3k is usually the length of an event, not 3.2 so its hard to judge.
im gonna boast though anyway
i did 9:55 in what was said to be 3k earlier this year...

As a runner who has competed in fun runs etc. train quite hard but certainly not professional, 4min K's is considred very comfortable and anything less than 3.30 K's is running hard. I can run the 10K in 35 min and 5K in 16 min so 3.2 k in 10.5 min is certainly doable.

what people don't realise is Footballers while very fit train in multiple disciplines and as runners while very good are not neccessarily exceptional.
If i were to run amateur athletics with my times i would probably be in C grade, the A greade boys are very good and would do 3.2k time trials in around 9 - 9.10. So while juddy is a great footballer he would be a modest runner by those standards.

Re: Can you beat Judd's time? ** MB Thread moved here**

The Head of Athletics at my school (CGS) who coached Judd when he did Athletics told me he was running around 4 minutes for the 1500m and around 1:57 for the 800m. Very impressive for an athlete focusing heavily on football at the same time.

Re: Can you beat Judd's time? ** MB Thread moved here**

Just started training a few weeks ago. Currently doing 33.8 km a week, and 6.5km in 28:55. Maybe with a year or so more running I might be able to give his time a shake.

If you are just starting up,not a bad time.Get yourself a good Coach or advice and vary the training so's you don't get bored.

Re: Can you beat Judd's time? ** MB Thread moved here**

28:00 for 6.5kms. Watch out Judd, i'm very, very, slowly gaining on you.

My long run's now up to 11.05 kms.

Strange thing is, I ran on a treadmill a week ago and was able to keep up 16kms an hour at 1% incline for 5kms. Either the treadmill speed is out, or I've measured my oval wrong. It's probably a bit of both.

Mmmmmmmmmmmm in the 'old money' that's six minute/miles, considered a yardstick by athletes. if you are achieving that already I would suspect you eventually will take about 10 minutes for the 3k distance.

I ran 10km in 51 minutes last week - not bad for a guy as bulky as me. Ran with some guys training for a fun run and they blew me away. They both finished in around 40 minutes - one just under and one just over. Course was pretty flat and only had slight inclines and declines. Not a big fan of road runs at the best of times.

Re: Can you beat Judd's time? ** MB Thread moved here**

The Tan? Please elucidate:)

It's a track near the CBD in Melbourne, I think it's 3842m long and it has a bit of a hill. I rode down there today (it's about 20-25 minutes away), did a lap, and got 14:40 (which is 15.7kmph). It's the first time I've run it, and it was quite strange, there were runners everywhere, normally when I run it's just me going around an oval by myself.

Re: Can you beat Judd's time? ** MB Thread moved here**

Thanks, but there were others much faster than me:eek:.On the odd occasion when he wasn't on 'international' duty I had the privilage of running (albeit well behind) in the same race as the great Steve Ovett, whose club had a long standing rivalry with the one I was a member of.

You have to also remember, most of the people getting better times then judd are very skinny and lean, for instance, motremm is 6'2 and 71kg, juddy is 6'2 and around 86kg, thats an extra 15 kg he has to lug around the course, juddy isnt aiming to break records and be the best endurance athlete ever, football is a game for big bodied players, and 10 30 is an amazing time for a man in his condition, he should beat the time this year also without the dodgy preseasons and groins plaging him.

Re: Can you beat Judd's time? ** MB Thread moved here**

and he's an explosive athlete, no where near an endurance one naturally

i would be impressed if someone could beat his 3km time trial but i'd more impressed if they could beat his 60m sprint during his eagles years

Pfft, I'm 6'2 and 85kg and my PB is 9:38 (but I am a triathlete...)

Re: Can you beat Judd's time? ** MB Thread moved here**

I just started back for pre-preseason 2010 :).
jogged the front half and ran the back half. 5:52 for 1600m.
will need to do the front half in about 4:40 if I'm to give the Juddster's time a shake.

Re: Can you beat Judd's time? ** MB Thread moved here**

Just out of interest, according to the calculations in this table, 3,000m would be Level 15, Shuttle 6 on the Beep Test, and it takes 15:13 to get to that level of that particular test, but gets progressively harder thereafter (total distance/time is 4,940m in 22:03).
