Another who looks like he may well be under real pressure is Sam Lonergan. A couple of times when he has needed a big game for Bendigo to force a spot he hasnt been able to produce what was needed. If he doesnt get a look in at some stage soon one would suggest he may be on his way.
I have no real knock on him , i think he is a very handy player but he doesnt seem to be in the selectors eye at the moment.

I recall hearing last year that there was some real pressure on Sam to hold his sopt, thankfully for him they cut Lucy instead.

Early in the season the word was that the penny had dropped and he'd put everything in to gaining a place in the senior side this year. So far, he hasn't been able to oull it out.

Given the amount of work he did pre-season and not being able to crack it for a game, I think you're spot, there's some pressure on him.

Bradley and Laycock stick out for mine as having to put in well above their usual output for the remainder of the season to convince most.

The more I think about it the more concern I have with MJ. If NLM was fit and Nash continued on his form from last year MJ would be struggling. Cole is another option for his spot.

The way I see it is :

definates :-

Hird - retired
Bolton - delisted
Heff - delisted

Fighting it out :

Dyson - can't see him doing enough to stay on the list next year
Lonergan - hasn't done enough yet. I would like to see him put on the rookie list though.
Campo - can he get his body right and give us another year?
Cole - can he get his body right and start producing consistenly?
Bradley - worth persevering. Has some talent and we need to find a way to use it.
Lee - tall backman. We need to persevere with as someone has to replace Mal and Fletch in a few years.
MJ - looks very shaky on the quicker guys and bigger grounds. Not sure if there's a spot for him in the team anymore.

The 4 in bold will be fighting it out. Dyson and Lonergan for mine will be delisted. Campo and Cole will be offered 1 yr contracts.

Bit harsh saying Bradley has to lift his output given his Bendigo form since Anzac Day. His last 5 games have yeilded the following from CHF
v Williamstown 16k 14m 12hb 3.1
v Geelong 14k 10m 5hb 5.2
v Frankston 14k 12m 9hb 2.3
v Coburg 14k 12m 9hb 2.2
v Box Hill 15k 9mk 7hb 4.3

I would say he is doing everything he can at this stage.

Yet, cant get into the side, even on the bench. When Johns & Bolts are being named in the side in front of you...doesnt look good from where Im standing.

So what totaly ingnore the fact he has been in the best for Bendigo for 5 weeks ? You said he isnt doing enough , i can tell you he has been doing a fair bit more than Johns has. Mate he has been doing all he can , maybe if Lucas doesnt play he may get a gig at CHF ? The reason he hasnt been named recently is becasue of the fact he wont be used as a defender type player anymore.

Maybe where you are standing is a bit too far away and you have a problem seeing the action:p :D

Interesting artical in todays Perth's Sunday Times about the re-signing process of WC's Matt Pridddis.
His manager said they are "opening up negotiations on a new deal' with the Wet Toast. That means imo,WC will squeeze the sh-t out of him and try to make him sign for much less than he would get from a Melbourne based club.

He only recieved a 1 year deal at the start of this season after being elevated from the 2006 WC rookie list.

(He played and starred in Subiaco's dominating WAFL GF win last year and won the Sandover medal)

I reckon we should offer him a bundle to come to Essendon in 2008.

After some de-listings and Hird's retirement,we will be in a great situation to offer the young gun a big pay packet.

We need to get blokes like him...1 or 2 of them at least....

He is a f----g gun of a kid (he's only 22)

I don't think he's the player we're looking for. Priddis wasn't drafted because he was said to be too small but also too slow. What Essendon needs in my opinion is a midfielder who's got some pace and also magnificent skills.

Priddis is good but I've rather chase others.

We can offer him all he wants , the trouble will be what are we offering that WC will accept ;)
The days of throwing cash at players to get them to changes clubs are gone unless you are in the bottom couple of sides.

I agree. But is this type of player gunna come from our current playing group?

Stanton is the only one to fit that bill atm. Jobe has the skills but not the pace....I'm worried that players like Dyson,Lovett,Watson and Winderlich are never going to hit elite form week after week, year after year for us.

We need to get a 23-24 year old gun who has proved he can play in the middle and is going to get better as the years go on.

Chase others???? Any suggestions?

If you're talking immediate future, I think the answer is a no. If you're talking future, I have high hopes for Leroy Jetta.

If we are looking for guys in the 23-24 age bracket, it's hard to say exactly who.

Obviously guys like Judd and Dal Santo are the first that come to mind but what comes with them is a massive price tag and a great deal of difficulty in formulating an appropraite way for them to come to the club.

To look at the next tier of players around that age, there's guys like James Kelly who might be of interest.

In my opinion, I think we're best placed to persist with who we've got at the moment and hopefully get a few good juniors to the club via the draft. The sacrifices we'd need to make just don't seem worth it.

I think Winderlich is starting to get close to that elite mark.

No doubting we need a 23-24 year old gun that can play the midfield role we sorely miss.

Can Nash do it?
Can Rama come back and give us something?
Can Hislop make an immediate impact?

I guess we need to pin our hopes on the likes of Nash, Houli, Hislop, Dempsey, Jetta, Reimers stepping up sooner than later.
