Watching it now.

Difficult to take sincerely. I don't know whether I ought to interpret this as pure contrition or as a cynical PR exercise.

One thing that seems clear is that he is a poster boy for generationally transmitted social problems.

Post your thoughts.

Denton is a good interviewer, cant watch it for some reason, but still listening. Cant help but feel his problems now r because of the unresolved issues when he left us(North) maybe he is just coming to grips to what he has done and has missed out on, just maybe. Hopefully he gets himself together , but yeah not sure how sincere or what he says is the truth.

Very raw. Awkward to watch but an excellent interview.

Tough gig sitting in the chair for 2 hours taking those questions and putting himself out there in front of the cameras and family.

Doesn't correct his past bad deeds, but a huge step in the right direction.

I reckon the Duck is going to be alright and sort himself out, which is a good thing.

Watching this I can't help but think he is still lying to himself. He still can't admit to certain actions. He's in desperate need of serious counseling.

He has to start thinking about changing his life-style dramatically.

He is a man in serious conflict with himself. His childhood sounds like it was hellish. Confronting these issues can only be good for him.

It's like watching an accident, I want to look away but can't.

I just hope wayne can get back to being Wayne, for himself and his daughter.

He will always be a footy field legend, let's just hope he can get back to being a good bloke :)

Good luck Wayne.

Want do you want to see? Do you expect him to break down crying and promise to sort his life out. Would you lot take him seriously then. Things aren't that simple. The Duck is a hard man. Hopefully now he is starting in the right direction. He obviously has no one to turn to (either does Kate) but eachother. I Can't even comprehend having a prick of a dad that Wayne has.

Kippling said "we have forty million reasons for failure but not a single excuse."

Clearly there is a PR machine behind Carey but he's clearly on the edge too. And so he should be. Another quote comes to mind, this one from Bryan Brown in the movie cocktail: "...and I blew the f###ing lot!"

Interesting to actually hear his side on all of this for once. We all know the media do exaggerate the truth allot.

I was surprised. Haven't seen Carey like that, taking that much responsibility.
Still some bullshit, but I think he finally is facing up to things.

Its actually very hard to watch im finding. He is a guy clearly struggling with himself and life in general. It can be quite hard to come straight out and admit all your shortcomings and the silly things youve done in the past but I think he is doing OK.

Hopefully he gets through the tough times ahead and regains some sort of positive standing in the wider community.

Yep, I didn't want to watch it and told people I wouldn't be watching it - but I watched it. I also got the feeling that he was not being entirely truthful at times, especially about the incidents in New York and Miami. But I would put that down to his legal advice more than anything else.

The impression I got unfortunately is that he is sorry that he got caught, rather than just being sorry. He has a tough time identifying between right and wrong it seems.

Sorry not trying to sound hard but I have no sympathy for him at all. He needs to take ownership for his actions rtather than look to place the blame or share the blame with others. If he can't remember what has happened at particular times how can he be so sure that they didn't happen. Also for someone who didn't know Jason Moran or anything about him it's funny how he rates a mention in the Underbelly books. Sorry but I'm not buying it. Did feel sorry for his sister and brother though.

No, I didn't expect him to break down and cry. I didn't know what to expect. I had no preconception about the interview. I just wanted to listen to what he had to say. That's all I've commented on.
I think he does have someone other than Kate to turn to, his sister. She was saying all the right things and he should (and it seems that he is) listen to her. She, not Dick, was the one saying that this was only the beginning of his recovery.
I, like most of us here, wish him the best.

Um I'm sory but I thought I heard very early on in the piece him take ownership for what had happened.

For all the heart wrenching moments, the one that tipped me over the edge was the bit about his old man never turning up to games and selling the grand final tickets.

Very Sad

It was a bit tough for me watching him sitting there answering difficult questions like that, because ever since i can remember, he was why you would watch the football, he was my and alot of littles boys idols growing up, watching wayne carey is one of my earliest childhood memories, his career had a maasive effect on my life to date.

I hope he gets his life back on track and live a good and honest life, and when he is older people choose to remember him as the king

Unfortunately I have to deal with people like him on a regular basis. He is mnot taking responsibility or ownership. He needs to talk about him and his actions not keep on referring to Kate and him (or anyone else). His sister will be his saving grace as she clearly loves her brother and will be his backbone. I wish him the best but it's a long road to recovery.

Imagine being 6 years old, having your mother disappear and being stuck with an aggressive alcoholic father during your most formative years? We should probably all be thankful that he didn't turn out to be a serial killer.

Watched Denton just then. Didn't fully go along what Carey was saying like shes done this, she done that, etc. Why blame her, he's responsible for all of this action as well. Anyway, wish him all the best, hope he gets professional help and get back to being normal
