Arguably the two most underperforming clubs of the last decade, and with both expected to play finals in 2023, who is under more pressure to perform to expectations and play finals in 2023?

Carlton or Gold Coast?

Obviously Carlton.

Nobody really cares in GC fail and sack another coach, hell the majority of the wags will be pleased so their clubs can pillage ahead of another rebuild.

Matt Rowell and Noah Anderson demand a trade to Hawthorn together, let’s face it, it probably happens.

Obviously, Carlton. Melbourne media, fans will go nuts if Carlton will not play finals. Carlton should play finals last year already. Losing the last 4 games was disappointing, especially against Crows. Performance against Lions at Gabba when the season was on the line was also disappointing to say the least. The list is impressive on paper, but can they play together as a team, show some mongrel. The last 2 games were promising in that aspect despite losses.

As for Suns, most media, opposition supporters don't care, have no idea what's happening there. Suns are in the best position in their existence to play finals. It does not mean it will happen next year. If Suns underperform next year, Dew is probably gone. A young midfield got a year under their belt and should improve again. Some key injured players will be back. Still loaded with maturing talent.

Both teams need a luck especially with injuries. It's extremely close competition. I would say 14 teams can make finals. Anything can happen.

Nah. Apparently, Rowell is close to re-signing.

In the last 3 years, Suns only lost Rankine. But Suns do need to start playing finals, no doubt.

Next 2 years will be telling. Suns do have now a list, maturity to play finals. No guarantees, as most teams are improving too and need some luck.

Carlton this year, Gold Coast next year depending on where they finish. GC had a run in the middle of the season starting with Sydney where they won 5 and lost 1 (to the Bulldogs) but then went 2L 1W 2L 1W 2L 1W.
Gold Coast should be aiming for a 9th/10th finish next year, and then the year after play finals. Anything less should see Dew sacked.

Carlton NEED finals next year. The bottled an absolute golden chance this year, and there are no excuses for next year. I think they are still a bit weak in the ruck, but they have a lot of playes in that 24/25/26/27 age bracket that should be kicking on at this point in their careers.
Voss won't get the sack if they don't make finals next year, but everyone will be harder on Carlton if they finish 9th next year as opposed to if GC finish 9th next year.

And another Carlton supporter comes into the thread to have a cry and can't answer a simple question.

Carlton really need to make finals next year, they will tear the joint down if they don't.
Same if we do.

And here is the attention seeker, right on queue.

Geelong this time, gave Richmond the flick have we?
what the **** are you talking about? I’ve had more accounts on here than you’ve got teeth and all of them are Geelong.

In terms of media and external pressure? Carlton by a long, long way.

In terms of the overall health/sustainability of the club and its burgeoning fan base? Gold Coast and it isn't even close.

Carlton will be shamed immensely if they keep finals but will ultimately still be a powerhouse. Gold Coast may not survive. I think internally the presusre is far more immense in the Gold Coast camp.
