Prediction North Melbourne or Richmond. Who will finish higher in 2024 ?

Given the retirements of several club legends/greats and the uncertainty surrounding who their next coach will be and the next generation of cubs on their list, I fully expect Richmond to likely fall into the bottom 4 next season (understandably wise due to equalisation and salary cap pressures which eroded their depth and inability to get top draft picks during their rather admirable flag and finals run)

I think North Melbourne will improve quite a bit next year (well you would like to think they would) but I don't think they have enough established class/leaders and kids good enough to get them out of the bottom 4 next season.

I honestly have no idea, at a pinch North, cause they have Larkey and hopefully a fully fit LDU and Wardlaw to help complement the stand out young gun of 2023 in Harry Sheezel.

On the other hand, assuming Ben McKay goes, North will have the weakest, most wafer thin backline in the comp. One that will occasionally still have cricket scores booted against them.
They won 3 games for the year, lost 20 games in a row and are very likely to lose their only key defender this year…

Yeah I’m gonna go with Richmond. The only way I see it being close is if the wheels were to fall off at the tigers but I can’t see that happening to that extent.

North have some great young talent and will add to that this draft. Not next season but not far off hopefully. Would be good to see North up and about. Richmond were held back last year obviously by Lynch not being there, but also Jack was non existent in many games, Cotchin was okay but just, so they won't really be missed. The other factor is we played Pickett forward all year mainly due to Lynch missing, and he was next to nothing up forward, Graham and MacIntosh were given games all year without doing much. Even Grimes was a shadow of his normal self.

A new coach will change much of that in that they won't be Hardwick/McWalter favourites any more. There are some good players waiting in the wings who showed quite a bit when given a go. They will have gained a lot of confidence from the last part of the season. Sometimes it's not a bad thing to miss finals and finish mid/low on the table, highlights the deficiencies.

A big part of where we finish will be the new coach and the direction he takes. If he trades off some assets and invests more in playing all the kids and rebuilding for picks, we'll finish lower than expected.

If he goes hard at finals, all the senior guys stay fit, a couple of the promising kids deliver and break out, and Tom Lynch plays all season, then we'll do better than Bigfooty predicts.

North will improve and should be winning 6+ games, but really so should we.

Roos will want to be bottom 2 next year for more delicious handouts.

Then start trying in 2025.

Jesus Christ, North pushing Hawthorns 1st round pick back a couple slots has absolutely scarred the psyche of you Hawks posters.

It's become an obsession with you lot. Every thread about North is filled with the same few Hawks posters saying the same things. Over and over and over.

Can't wait for Roby to dislike this post!

Yes whoever Roby is certainly matters.

If the Roos are going to improve a lot next year why so desperate for so many handouts ?

2 or 3 extra 18 year olds wont bring the improvements instantly. So the list would be moving up anyway.

So why the need for so much assistance ?

The assistance is going to be a big part of our improvement. Our best players this year were young kids, and an 18 year old is probably going to win our BnF.

2 or 3 extra 18 year old kids wont jump you 5 or 6 spots up the ladder.

We got Buddy, Rough and Lewis and moved up 1 spot.

You reckon you will get better than that this year ?

We also got Clinton Young who was one of the best left foot kicks Ive ever seen.

Richmond, and it won’t even be close in terms of wins/percentage.

There may only be a couple of spots difference but it will be more like Richmond are Hawthorn of this year - still 5-6 wins ahead.

They’ve still got Lynch, Nankervis, Balta, Short, Rioli, Martin, Bolton, Prestia, Taranto, Hopper, Broad, Baker, Vlastuin.

Sure, not a finals win tier group (factoring in an old Lynch/Nank/Dusty/Prestia), but they won 10.5 games this year for a reason.

Not sure how it’s even a thread.

Richmond much more likely to attract someone decent in FA than North are - North are going to target some younger players and lose McKay, Richmond could get a Gresham type easily.

Whatever we get will be well behind what Hawthorn's received in the past.

We’ll always finish above South Melbourne though, cos you no longer exist. We fought and won to save our club. It must burn you every day 😢

That is classic deflection.

This thread is about the successful and relevant Richmond FC and it's prospects against a Club doomed to grace the nether regions of the ladder.

Remarkably few people support NMFC so them sitting in the basement does not cost people rocking up to games, much less eyeballs on the telly. NMFC doing well would lead to smaller crowds attending big games and fewer eyeballs on those games.

That's capitalism friend. In the long term if a Melbourne based Club is to be perennially in the basement it will be NMFC. The AFL has a vested interest in elevating the larger and capable Clubs.

Players and their managers get it. Last year it was JHF, this year it will be McKay. Talent will get poured in year after year and then leave if they survive.

You don’t need to educate me on capitalism friend, I’m a card-carrying socialist with a PHD in cultural studies and Marxist theory.

You hate North, I get it, I don’t like your club either. But your ardent wish to see us fold because poor South gave up the ghost 40 years ago is a little on the pathetic side. May I suggest a hobby?

Also, this thread is about who will finish higher next year, North or Richmond. Considering we have beaten you in a final since you last won a flag I wouldn’t be at all certain we are “doomed to grace” - that’s an oxymoron btw, awful use of the English language - the bottom for ever.

Thankfully, the league runs on principles of equalisation closer to our favoured political ideology.
Go Roos.

It is just how I see this playing out.

The thread was set by up by Elmer_Judd when he was in a mischievous mood.

In 2024 the Tiggers will be thereabouts to the 8, hopefully not 9th for the sake of all. Without Goldy and Ben M, NMFC will do well to scramble 4 wins.
