DynamoUltra said:I'm surprised little has been made of this, or maybe it's in the Bay 13 board (haven't ventured there yet), but in the first quarter when Lucas had a long bomb on goal, one of the Carlton players dived at the ball, touching it with his fingers before the ball bounced through. The goal umpire incorrectly called this a goal, instead of a behind, and hence Carlton were robbed.
I would say the same thing. We can also say that Essendon robbed themselves by letting Carlton come back after being 20 points up in the last quarter!ant555 said:Carlton got two goals from soft frees that where not there during the game as well.
In the end i would say Carlton robbed themselves with poor kicking
Exactly. What's to say whoever was kicking it in from the behind didn't turn it over (which in all likelyhood would have happened) again resulting in a goal. Therefore we win by a point.sherb said:In any event, the incident in question occurred early in the game, which means that you shouldn't allow it affect the end result anyway.
Don't know what footage they used on the footy panel, but the replay shown immediately afterwards on Fox Footy clearly shows Thornton's fingers being slightly bent from contact by the ball. He definitely touched it, but I can accept that the goal umpire may not have seen the contact.OB1 said:Was there a better camera angle of the incident? At the game it didn't look like he touched it & on the footy panel this morning the footage didn't show him touching it. If there was another angle that I haven't seen then I'll concede we were lucky with that 1, if not then this whole thread sceams of absolute desperation from yet another obsessed hawks supporter.
You can't pay that a goal. He got a fingertip on it but he didn't touch it well enough for it to be paid a goal.DynamoUltra said:I'm surprised little has been made of this, or maybe it's in the Bay 13 board (haven't ventured there yet), but in the first quarter when Lucas had a long bomb on goal, one of the Carlton players dived at the ball, touching it with his fingers before the ball bounced through. You're right, with the number of easy goals they missed they should have won comfortably. On the other hand, maybe if Essendon didn't try to shut the game down with 4 minutes still left on the clock they might have got over the line.Antonius said:You can't pay that a goal. What about the in the back frees to Carlton? What about those fluke goals to Simpson and Kouta? Carlton didn't deserve to draw.
Yeah that was pretty weak by our players - negative tactics with that much time left never works.mediumsizered said:You're right, with the number of easy goals they missed they should have won comfortably.
