Who were the bogey teams of the premiership teams and dynasties?

Collingwood had issues with Geelong back when we won our 2010 flag. If it wasn't for them, most likely would have beaten anyone else in 2011 and gone back to back. I remember going to a game back then where they beat us by a huge margin.. like 60+ even though we had a good team.

I remember personally dreading playing Geelong back at that time
And surprisingly it went both ways a bit, in 2008 Collingwood belted geelong by over 10 goals and the 2010 prelim of course

Interesting stat about 4 Geelong GF wins having involved a defeat of Collingwood at one stage in finals
Collingwood and Geelong have actually had the most head to head meeting in finals in VFL/AFL history, 26 meetings, with it being 14-12 in Geelong's favour. Probably because both sides (Particularly the Pies) are perennially up there competing, hence it's logical to wind up playing each other plenty of times.

It's astounding to this day that Hawthorn and North played 10 finals between each other from 1974-1978 (two each season) back in the final five days. Indeed until the AFL switched the finals series up a bit from 1993 onwards there would regularly be a re-match between say the QF combatants and the PF, or a 2nd semi and GF situation. Carlton and Richmond in the '69-73 era were similar. 1992 saw Geelong play the Dogs in a QF and the PF, whilst the Eagles played Geelong in the 2nd SF and GF.

One stat, given the Pies hold a huge 154-85 lead head to head over the Dees, in finals it's 16-6-1 Melbourne's way. Perhaps a little surprising give the Pies and Essendon have played just about every season and both have been very successful clubs in their history, they've only met in 17 finals.

I may be mistaken but Tigers and Hawks never played a finals match against one another

Adelaide, ironically, was probably the closest the tiges got to a bogey team from 2017 to 2020. (3-3)

The dogs as well probably (2-2). I wouldnt consider them bogies though.

Wow looking back we were pretty blessed.

From 2015-2019 we beat Richmond in every game not played at the MCG. 4 times at Adelaide Oval and once at Docklands. Played at the MCG twice and lost both.

That was definitely one where the GF venue decided it. Eventually Richmond got their act together with travelling, but 2017 they relied on the G big time.

Not a Bogey team but a Bogey player, Jason Heatley Vs the 90s Kanagroos!!

Would absolutely towel us up every time we would play them

31 Goals 5 Behinds in 7 games. Next best was 18 Goals 9 Behinds vs Melb.

Short lived career but a memorable one for a kid supporting the roos in the 90s!!

Speaking of those times. Your Leigh Harding you used to clean us up every time. I hated that guy!
