Do you really think it has been solely Essendon's choice to have made so few public comments?

They would be under pretty strict instructions from the AFL that they have to, as much as possible, let the investigation play out. It would be a terrible look for the credibility of any investigation if public comments from the club concerned were constantly pre-empting and undermining it.

On one hand I like that Essendon have called Caro out for making shit up as it's about time someone did so.

That said, as an observer I've been disappointed at the way Essendon pull out the we can't say anything whilst the investigation is ongoing defence when it suits them but then selectively comment on some issues as they see fit.

Anyway I guess they saw Hird getting unfairly slandered (in their eyes) and felt compelled to do something. I continue to marvel at the unity of the club under the circumstances tbh

Predictable BF response to Essendon's statement by opposition fans. All I can say is "SUCK IT NERDS!" The club is allowed to defend itself and it's people. Caro has made a habit of being factually incorrect this year. I look forward to it's apology in the coming weeks.
I would like Caro to roll out her source. That would be interesting.

Mate, as a supporter it's disappointing in a sense, too. As a supporter, of course you just want to know what is going on, and the fits and starts of public comment does make that hard and pretty confusing, to be honest.

Unfortunately, it's modern PR 101 for you. Essendon isn't unique in this regard, I would say there's a very good chance any AFL club, if they were in Essendon's position, would be doing similar things.

Essendon says several claims made in the reports are incorrect and has pleaded with the media to allow the ASADA-AFL investigation to take its course.

"Representatives from the club have requested all parties to the investigation to guarantee confidentiality and to afford natural justice," the statement said.

Dons were told drug was legal

"Breaching this confidentiality directly undermines the trust in the process and selective disclosure of information relating to the investigation appears to be deliberately threatening the integrity of this process."

I do find it ironic that the confirmation of taking ao964 was given by Jobe so he broke the confidentiality , essendon are still wanting on this investigation . Cant have it both ways Bombers

Dude - she is saying things in her article about Essendon's program and Hird being forewarned. It relates to the investigation and puts a cloud over the 'rogue' angle being presented.

Saying its factually incorrect is a comment on that claim, which relates to the case.

Essendon have attacked the claims made in the article, which relate to the case.
she is a commenter on the investigation, not the investigation. No-one ever said Essendon couldn't comment on comments about the investigation!!

If I was a Bomber fan, I'd be pretty disappointed that Matthew Lloyd hasn't pushed back on Caro more on Footy Classified.. you would hope he stood up for Hirdy a bit more on the field.

As a neutral and someone who never liked Lloyd all that much, I must say I've been quite impressed by Lloyd's impartiality when discussing this affair. I'd expect he'd know a bit more than most given his connections with the club but he doesn't rabbit on about what he's heard from sources or the like, just makes comments on what he's observed, raises concerns without acting like a rabid dog and doesn't leap to Essendon's defence automatically.[/quote]

That'll be the day! Her sources are usually any of the following:

"sources close to"

"an AFL insider"

"club power brokers"

”influential people"

"a board member"

"former players" etc

They’re always nameless and faceless. They’re most likely cowards who won’t stand by what they say or people with an axe to grind allowing Wilson to do their dirty work. Her thawces always back up her opinion and I wouldn’t be surprised if some of them don’t even exist. How are we really to know?

Slander is one thing and has been put up with in a sense. Outright untruths are a different matter.

That and, I think it would only fuel Caro on, Llyod sticking up for his mate, the boys club etc.

I think she belittles people who don't fit her story, Been happy he's been reserved, I think there have been times he has wanted to unleash but has pulled himself in.

Where did Gerard get his detailed and rather specific information from for yesterday's scoop? Either the AFL or Essendon.

My bets on Essendon. They're leaking like nobodies business. My take on the Jobe thing was it was stage managed, and the whole "surprised" thing from Hird was a crock. They're spinning harder than Shane Warne here, so it tickles my fancy when they come out with shit like this.

Is tequila an acceptable substitute for Bacardi Breezers?

Do you think Lloyd drinks tequila?

Acceptable substitutes are west coast coolers and Spumante.

For anything else, ask yourself this:

Would Lance Uppercut or a skanky 15 year old girl from Carrum Downs drink this. If your answer is yes, rock on!

ASADA vascillating:

Meanwhile, the Australian Sports Anti-Doping Authority has conceded there are"complex" issues at the centre of the Essendon investigation.

"ASADA acknowledges that the issues regarding AOD-9604, alongside a number of other substances, are complex, and it is considering these issues as part of its ongoing investigation," an ASADA spokesperson told AFL.com.au.

Hardly the firm dismissal of Whateley's revelations that some BigFooty posters are making, is it?

Perhaps we could get the rev-o-metre on the job?
