No "important" players will be leaving (players like Carlisle, Hurley, Zaka etc.). Most of our important players love the club and don't want to leave, and going from that, the only players that would want to leave are ones not getting enough opportunity

David King said it best last week I think. The question was put to him about players leaving through the clause. He said dont worry about that legal bs if a player wants out, the club will let them out. Sure it could be a different ball game if a whole lot want to leave but I think that would be very unlikely.

IMO, If a player wants to leave then let them, no point holding on to someone that doesnt want to be there.

We've heard this story before so im not worried. Disappointing the press can't focus on the finals but resort to recycling crap stories... Does Finnis want to see the club destroyed?

Nothing in it IMO. Would've thought the content of the article was common sense.

This would of been the time line.

- Rd23 team found out officially no finals
- a few days later a couple of players wrote to the AFL
- they looked into it and agreed this can be done
- yesterday Finnis said this might be a possibility, no players as of yet
- today Vlad says there are a couple of players

Players IMO
- Jetta
- Ryder
- Pears
- Hardingham

IF there is someone who wants to leave:

It is obviously someone who is contracted for 2014, but may want to leave for further oportunities. Further to this, they are worried they will not get traded to a club of choice, perhaps because they will not attract much in the way of picks.

Now off the top of my head I can only think of one player who is in this situation. And if it eventuated, the scandal would be far more damaging than us losing the player for nothing. If anything I think the player could just use it as leverage in his negotioations. "I want you to trade me, and if you don't I can just walk, so get it done yeah".

Several reasons.. no 'Stars' are reportedly looking to actually do it, it would be quite difficult to prove and if EFC challenged it could become legally messy AS the player would need to prove actual intent to harm OR harm caused OR establish the 'acceptable degree of harm' vs 'actual risk of harm at EFC'

Didn't the accepted charges against EFC contain something along the lines of the club not being able to guarantee the safety of the substances administered in the supplement program? If this is the case, then it could realistically be argued that there was potential to cause harm, and that by administering something with that potential, that there was intended potential for harm. It's a wank I know, but that's what lawyers do.

As far as the step ladder analogy goes, unfortunately employers are normally held responsible unless the employee acts directly in contravention of what they've been directed to do - you would need to say "Get a longer ladder" or "Don't step off the end of that ladder". Stupidity doesn't make someone culpable. The players were (probably) reasonably expected to take part in the supps program, so we've got to wear any implied or actual risks to them.

I don't think there is any point speculating about the players who want out. You could build a case for all players, both for & against. I'm happy to let this one unfold. This has been spoken about for months now.

Yes.. this gets messy legally however as it would ONLY pertain to players who were given substances that weren't on the 'consent forms'.. otherwise the players were given the correct information and were allowed to 'opt out'.. We know that the number of players given possible 'unknown' substances is actually quite small.

I think that there is no suggestion this effects more than 5 players.. I would suspect less than 3 are seriously looking at it.. again the primary point being, this is Essendon..we are a great club and I don't think we would stand in the way if I guy wanted to leave because of this crap... and I wouldn't want the club to.

If a player doesn't want to be at the club anymore.. because of this stuff and has doubts.. then let him go I say. I only want passionate and driven individuals representing my football club in 2014 and beyond...

Was just about to write the same thing

Has anyone read the article on the afl website about the players wanting out?

Vlad said "It's impossible for me to comment because I sit on the Commission, other than I can confirm that they've written to us."

Oh Vlad this hypocrisy is why people hate you. So typical of the way he has conducted himself throughout this tenure.

I don’t think that since this whole saga began, anybody has been able to provide any relevant “information” as to what will happen next.
Unfortunately, this latest headline is just another piece of sensationalism printed to help sell newspapers, which may or may not, have any substance to it.
I’m with Kakkle, just let it play itself out.

Also, I second this:

The club is bigger than the individuals. If we lose players who don't want to wear the red and the black, so be it. We can always build to something without them.

So Melbourne signs Roo's.. sadly.. what the AFL wants.. the AFL gets.. 1.5M a year?? for a coach.. for one of the poorest clubs in the land.. oh brother..

Will be interesting to see what happens regarding contracts.. when do lists have to be finalised ahead of draft?

Oh a bit hypothetical using that line with Hird getting a contract extension. Bomber himself said if players get infractions they will walk, this is no different a player leaving because he won't be playing for Essendon because of the Saga.

Such a bullshit article full of weasle words - "could', "may", "think", then these two quotes.

"They (the AFLPA) have players who I think they've spoken to, who have indicated to them that that's what their preference is,'' Demetriou told ABC radio.
"Whilst we have met with all player managers involved and had numerous discussions with Essendon players, we are not aware of any particular player who is seeking to go down this path," Finnis said.

And the article begins by implying that Essendon players initiated the request.
ESSENDON players have asked the players' association how they can leave the club after its supplement scandal, AFL boss Andrew Demetriou says.

Player X: I reckon I'd have more of a chance of getting a game at another club.
Manager: I agree and possibly more coin too. Want me to look into possible suitors?
Player X: Sure

Media/AFLPA/Vlad: Player X may want to leave due to the drugs saga thingamujig... I think.

I remember reading on here or Blitz, that apparently the players told Finnis to GAGF in a meeting about a month ago?

Also, what's the bet our fine is paying for Paul Roos?
And Finnis can GAGF. Where the **** has he been for the last 6 months? If I was Jobe, I wouldn't had let the campaigner in the door. This really really pissed me off this morning. Don't be all caring for the players after the shit they've been through this year.

The AFLPA has been pushing for the players to hate the club all year... nothing new there... this is the same flog who said "I'm surprised some of them haven't just walked out"...

I think the AFL will probably allow this farce of a clause.. I think some players will use it.. I think the club will survive and I think the club will grow.

For every manager who would "Think Twice", there is one who says "EFC is a very attractive proposition for players".

Not an issue for me. If you aren't getting enough games and you think there is a club that will give then to you that's great take it up. If you hashed out a contract with Essendon but now want more money, cool, there's the door, bloke.

This will not be the exodus predicted. I reckon Leroy Jetta might take the opportunity to get some more games while still contracted - good for him and good for the media who will beat it up

The AFL has already agreed and decided to allow this to happen weeks ago, they are just conditioning the public now for when it happens.

It's the same with:
- If essendon makes the finals no points will be stripped (the interview that mentioned points are on the table)
- I knew 3 weeks prior from the council that Geelong will be getting a home final, and then the "groomed" the public prior declaring it

I honestly don't like the look where this is heading
