Fair enough but I still think he's overly evasive, maybe just improve the terminology a tad.
If Stewart failed a concussion test, then there's no winding back on that, so say it, along with some other stuff like he's doing well at the moment, but we'll know more later. Doesn't take much instead of pleading poor me.
Fair enough. I thought it was common knowledge he was subbed out after failing a concussion test, and we all saw him walking post game with his teammates and joining in the team song.

I dont think it was why we drafted him but its worked out to be a bonus since he was clearly going soon after the pick we used, and likely to a top 6 side and we look like we will be top 6.

I suspect that we drafted him to slot straight into the smith role and how well dempsey has performed straight up on a wing has surprised us and made it harder for him to get in. I think after a bit more vfl time as a genuine mid he will be back in and by end of year/start of next year he should have a clear path in (i think people will be surprised how many guys retire this year).
If we were to win the flag, there could be Stanley, Tuohy, (Bews,) Duncan, Hawkins, Rohan... and even if we don't. Any others?

True but I'd rather have it from Scott when he's asked than some turnip commentator.

In isolation, I thought his game was ok given the atrocious conditions. But it's just that given his form and age, people are (not wrongly) alert to signs of slowing down.

Yeah conditions didnt suit him. He should be better at the G on a dry track. Id play him the next couple at the G then rest him for darwin (conditions will be too slippery and wont suit him either) which coincidentally means his record breaking game would be against gws or richmond at home.

Who do you see retiring? I have Bews, Tuohy and Rohan as definites, Stanley and Hawk as probables, Duncan and Guthrie as maybe/probably nots.

Bews will go regardless (we will delist him if he doesnt retire). Same with tuohy and potentially rohan.
I think we will try to convince stanley to do one more year as backup but i reckon he will rather retire to his farm.
I think duncan and hawk are both 50/50 to go on but if we win the flag i think both definitely retire. (Dangerfield i think goes on and blitz and cuthrie are contracted).

The wet weather really exposed how unthreatening Brisbane are ball in hand. In contrast we repeatedly got the ball over top despite the conditions. Once their ruckmen went down, they had no chance. We got lucky, was a bad game to give Conway a shot.

Overly offensive players are overrated, Poor play from Neale resulted in us getting multiple goals when the score was still close.

Z.Guthrie and Stengle were massive with Duncan really clean, Hawkins showed his football IQ with that torp goal assist not so much with the 100 metre pen. Cameron's workrate stood out. O.Henry almost had a big night, just need to be a little cleaner with the ball. Danger did a lot of small deft touches that would have been easy to miss. Midfield battled well, very even group. Our KPDs played deep and acted as a wall.

OOps meant like, very much, not funny.
All this from our boys carried out with more touch than Noah and his ark.
Shocking conditions that Brisbane should have been more attuned too.

Bews Tuohy Rohan definitely. (The first 2 are vfl now and dempsey has pushed rohan out).
Stanley potentially but if we push him we would have to use the list spot to bring in a conway backup anyway. But stanley might not want to stay for a year as essentially vfl backup i reckon he will choose to retire to his farm and we will bring another ruck in (given blitz will be 34 when next year starts we would have to).
Duncan looks like end career harry taylor in that he looks slow and like his body is 45 but hes still actually playing decently. Depends on the body id say.
Hawk is the one the club will let him make his own call. But i think he will retire.

Jeka murdoch are delists as might be willis and foster.
Parfitt and hardie could look for other clubs for money and opportunity.

Guthrie is contracted for 25 so will go unless its a medical retirement (but 25 might be the last year for him and blitz).
Danger is OOC but i think he will go one more as hes still playing well when fit (the only question is whether he hands over the captaincy to stewart).

This one I don’t, just the bolded.
He fumbled, shirked it and miss the footy more.
Not blaming him or age, it was the weather but I dare say is one of his worst game by “cleanness”

Yeah, I smell a Ryan Abbott/Orren Stephenson/Darcy Fort type of pick coming in.

Honestly, I think Duncan stays. He looks creaky at times, but he's playing well and still pretty lethal by foot.

I would be shocked if he retires. He's still playing excellent footy. I'd also be surprised if he handed over the captaincy, especially as there might be a shot at a flag as captain of his much-beloved Cats in the offing.

It'll be a straight swap for O'Sullivan, it's hardly like we are stacked for defensive marking power in the 2s.

Im not sure we need osullivan as sdk will get mckay and henry will get curnow anyway (with kolo on whoever the tall is). Given our defence doesnt struggle for aerial marks but struggles more at groundball it makes more sense to put atkins and bowes back (which is what we did after HT) as atkins is expert on groundballs smd bowes marks well for his height. And instead we should bolster our midfield (as carlton bats deep there) which means either hardie or mannagh must come in (unless we bring rohan in but that would involve more shuffling, the other 2 as a mid is a better swap).

If stanley goes we will either get the cheapest ruck off an afl list that is happy to come be backup (for example it might be someone like strachan or reidy or bryan etc..im sure we would like moyle but hes not a good fit with conway too similar and he will want a no1 spot). Or we will draft a mature ruck out of the state league leagues like what we did with mannagh.

I agree duncan has more value than some of our other older guys as hes still in our top 5 ball users just pointing out he looks slow. So probably depends whether his body can manage another year or not. Could do either way.

Yeah it will be a hard call re captaincy if we look a flag shot for 25. But danger would be aware stewart deserves to lead the club at some stage but will be 33 at the start of 2026. If danger waits to hand it over til then it might be too late and it would have to go to a younger player (like how if harley hadnt gone at the end of 09 it would have bypassed ling altogether due to his age).
So i think its more likely danger plays on but hands over the C.

I think 2E will come in next week for Stewart, but I'd like to see Connor O'Sullivan get a game, too. SDK & JH will take Carlton's twin towers with Blitzy helping out when they're on the bench. The advantage with 2E is he can play on the wing which will allow Blitz to rotate to the backline.

Agree, don’t get cute, play O’Sullivan. Doesn’t get much tougher for a young key back than Carlton, perfect game for further experience (especially being 6-0).

Only the footage could exonerate him. He had a few ground ball gets that he got in one go , and got the ball over top when many weren't.

I completely disagree with this. I think Duncan had a good game, and everybody except Stengle (and sometimes Holmes) fumbled it.

"Shirked it" is a bit much.
I didn’t say he didn’t play a good game
In the conditions it was a good game but his cleanness was average and he shirks it most weeks so it’s not like it’s a rare occurrence

My first game at the Gabba last night, been around a bit of the country, and I'm still continuously surprised at the level and numbers of Cats supporters everywhere we play, the volume and the quality of support we give the players, and the great people you meet and chat to.

Testament to the way the clubs been run for a while now. Despite our 'regional' status, we're no doubt a big club.
We're a unique case where we've certainly picked up a few 'glory-hunters' over the years....but the difference to a Hawthorn or Richmond is they've stayed because we just keep winning.

Surprised that there are a few people critical of Hawkins’ game. There was near zero influence from any key forward given the weather (I suspect it’d be years since Hawkins, Cameron, Daniher and Hipwood were all held goalless in the same round). In a low scoring scrap, Hawk contributed two pieces of play that were pivotal to the final result, setting up MOC (third quarter) and Stengle (fourth quarter) following strong contested marks.

I am a long, long way away from questioning his place in the side.

That said, I hope we have a Selwood 2022-seque management plan in place to ensure he makes it to September in good shape.
Both him & Jez are going to dominate next week, I can feel it.

Key Forwards HATE playing two goalless games in a row, and they'll massively overcompensate as a result.
