Interesting the amount of pre season work Learmonth are doing. As AJ said last year Learmonth were hurt by poor injury management during the finals. Without knowing specifics of Learmonths situation during last years finals, the problem with such an comprehensive pre season program is you need alot of professional support to manage injuries, recovery, monitor workloads etc. Sounds as though AJ you have all this in mind, but as you say you had injuries last year during the finals. Hards grounds and high training workloads equals greater risk of injury and fatigue especially later in the year. I guess you will only know come September if it has worked. A few years ago Hawthorn had a pretty heavy pre season and were recognised as being a fair percentage fitter than other AFL sides. They won alot of games due to their fitness up until three quarters of the way through the season. After that they hit a big flat spot and were bundled out of the finals fairly easily. Were many CHFL sides fitter than you in 2008 and how many wins did the extra work get you?
I think there would be an expectation that players on decent money would commit to an extensive pre season. Those players not getting paid, or with demanding jobs and families would have difficulty completing a prgram such as this. Or as you say they need traiing as an excuse to get away from their families.
I find the different clubs approach to pre season training interesting particularly while doing your own pre season training and thinking about how you are going to approach your training. I think the difference in the end comes down to how much the payers do on their own away from the club. Having siad that hopefully i can lose a few kilos before the season starts.
I spoke 2 a bloke from dunnstown he told me they would have a big turn over of players but they will be compeditive with a number of players coming from melbourne one is supposedly a gun ruckman time will tell, any club with uni sudents will have a big turnover what web site has the clearances.
The ruckman is Jeremy Jose from Diggers Rest and yes he can play. Two on-ballers joining him from Diggers as well in Stephen Hoare and Campbell Walsh who are also handy footballers. Dunnstown would want to hope they don't draw many Sunday games though as all are mormons and won't play on Sundays. As we all know, the league schedule Sunday finals so if Dunnstown manage to make it and cop a Sunday final they won't play. Walsh took the RDFL to the anti-discrimination board and vcat after missing a grand final a few years back (which Diggers lost) in an attempt to have Sunday football banned but was unsuccessful.
they will have to do a lot of work between now and september before they have to wurrie about playing sundays ryang do you no anything about the players that are runoured to be travelling up with sawers and the couple from geelong. Is murphy a mormon he dont like playing on sundays either,im tipping learmonth isnt religeous he's real keen on playing on sunday any way im of to church god bless you all ,na stuff church might go to the pub instead
Sounds like a good idea. Don't know anything about Sawers mates but if they're anything like him - look out. As for September, Dunnstown will be thereabouts.
The closest they will get to a final will be if the league decides to play a final on that pathetic patch of mud out there.
What do you base that opinion on Animal? They get written off every year and people get it wrong every year. They've lost a few, so the story goes, and they've picked a few up. I'd suggest they will be better coached this year as well with Dummett back. Everbody is pumping Bungaree and Beauforts tyres up as being big improvers - based on what? Who have they picked up? More importantly, who have they lost from 08 when they were both a million miles off the pace.
weymess is a big lossBungaree will be around 5th and 6th..
Gaining the Bricks and stevens, aswell as many others from the BFL and other surrounding leagues, also with the addition of both Maher and Murphy from under 18's should keep them in good stead.
The players they've lost are: Nicholson, C.Fothergil, Weymess, Linderback.
What about box? where is his he playing this season? i did here lake wendouree but ive also heard hes had talks with learmonth recently!Sounds like a good idea. Don't know anything about Sawers mates but if they're anything like him - look out. As for September, Dunnstown will be thereabouts.

I'm no longer living in Ballarat anymore so i couldnt tell you, im just going off reports from all the boys i stay in contact with. However they have told me there is a lot of new faces out there. Last night there was a praccy match out there and apparently Box and Dyson George played really well.animal im guessing your the sort of bloke that doesn't like to get DIRTY.Not much news out of learmonth, animal i thought you would have signed a few stars during o week.Training has been ok at gordon with the future looking ok

Well if Dyson George is half as good as he rates himself, he'll be playing AFL by the end of the year! Box will be handy, but why did he leave Dunnstown? wouldn't be chasing a flag by any chance?
Does anyone know where to find info on registrations etc?
I would of thought Learmonth would be getting closer to premiership favouritism (outside Hepburn) whilst most people have written Dunnstown off. Given Learmonth's recent recruinting and third place finish in 2009, I am sure they would have to think they are close out there, but I suppose when it is over 50 years since your last win you can never be too confident
if Learmonth don't will it this year they never will.Hepburn would have to start the season favourite Learmonth second favourite
first i've heard of it. any idea who the players are ?
Another one bites the dust Timmy. Now with Nicholas Walsh gone how many recent under 18 best and fairest winners or runners up has the great robbo driven away now? 5? 6?
Any clown can steer a talent laden side like the Burras have (and good luck to them) but it takes a great coach with character and nerve to build and maintain a club. Robbo has shown over many years that he is the former and not the latter.
Remember mate, if you want to bag us, make sure you deal in the facts... Nick was a good junior footballer, but he never won a u/18s B&F with us. Except for Toby Hughes, ( where both parties decided it was time for a change) i'd like to know who your 5 or 6 former B&F or runners up winners are.Another one bites the dust Timmy. Some very valid points there mate. I'm not taking a stab at the HFC but can you confirm that Cox and McKay are still training at Darley and Marsh? Can certainly understand it in pre season not wanting to travel but i would think by now they would be back training with the Burras. I'm not trying to imply they are going to be leaving the burras i just want to know if the rumour that there still training at those clubs is true?Remember mate, if you want to bag us, make sure you deal in the facts... i wonder what club you are from? i bet it hasnt finished 1st 1st 2nd 3rd and 1st in the past 5 years. Looking ok again in 09, so i think thats maintaining a club... ? isn't it?
You question build a club.... Dan O' Halloran, Sam Conroy, Beau Ryan, Alan Ware, Nev Purtell, were all juniors when Robbo first took over and played in last years flag. Dan Chapman would have been there to, except for his broken leg. John Comelli, Gary Byers & Craig Leehane were only just starting their senior Careers.
He made Chapman & Ware co Captains last year both only 22...
All the other talented Juniors that have come through played in the flag in the two's last year. Ask any coach who has won a Premiership, and he'll tell you that you need COMMITED TALENTED PLAYERS to win a flag, not just TALENTED players. You see the above names i mentioned were and are commited and talented. They were rewarded with a senior flag... Talent won our Reserves a flag as well, but the players were no where near as commited . Most have now won 2 or more Premierships now and you can't argue with that!!!! If your going to just go through the motions in the CHFL, and not put in the real hard yards and just rely on natural talent, we would probably finish 4th or 5th, as we used to do. It's because of Robbo ******** that we have now won 3 out of the past 5 Premierships.
