And while I’m still mid-rant - Pies fans tend to be happy when we appoint ex-Pies to jobs. I’m guilty of this too. But it hasn’t done us any favours in the past.
I hear you but on the other side of the coin ignoring a Pies man because of that record is just as dumb.

It's a matter of personality and commitment and only a one on one conversation can determine that.

Its the ‘through and through’ that bothers. ‘Old’ Collingwood was not successful enough, given our resources, and I’m concerned that Kelly may be an easy option.

I think he’d make a good President, but the CEO is more hands on and a more critical position to fill. We have to get the best available in such an influential role.

Maybe it's another succession plan VP from CEO to President it worked wonders for the coaching

Edit: and yes I'm one of the ones that was glad Malthouse got the arse

Bit tentative on this craig kelly noise. No doubt he is well qualified, and an attractive candidate with a clear love for the club and strong footballing credentials.

But with a son at the club, and a slight whiff of jobs for the boys I'm concerned this hasn't come from a genuine search for the best candidate. Also we already have wright doing everything and licca on the board overseeing football operations. The best outcomes in the professional world tend to come from teams with diversity in backgrounds, skills and experience, not sure this appointment would help us with that.

It becomes clear why Kelly survived and Liam Mc got the arse, it would not have looked good getting rid of prospective CEO son,s,call me cynical if you like.

Who else should run a CEO search?

A group of board members, external footy people, an external recruitment agency… Leaving it to largely one person fairly or unfairly creates questions around process.

Putting it another way how would the decision be perceived if it was McGuire driving the decision instead of Browne?

Not sure he is doing it on his lonesome...

Depends on where in his span of time a Collingwood it was taken.

Lots of people happy to smash Eddie but he just stayed too long and the board was too weak.

Nobody was backstabbing when the club was grovelling to the AFL for a handout for the first time in its history and Eddie stepped in.

Lot's of people have bloody short memories on this board.

Whacking Eddie is a national pastime but he turned the club around enormously. He bleeds for the club and thats what caused his downfall in overstaying

From what I understand from those at the Club42 function last week was that there have been other applicants reviewed and considered.

Not sure if Ned is indeed the favourite, but if he is the preferred candidate, he needs to sort out his business COI's first, as they're infinitely worse than his son being a bee's proverbial from delisting.

So even if this article is true (and probably is) we'd need to have bonafide backups ready, and as such, the inference of a lack of process is speculative.

Also it's important to understand that we're not the public service interviewing for a middle manager here, so there needs to be a fair and reasonable degree of head-hunting for a good CEO in this niche field.

Fair to be cynical, but to be blunt, McMahon was shit. He projects to me as being a very-outside Birchell-esque third tall type HBF'er with a state league maximum.

Whilst I can't envisage Will turning things around, he at least projects as a state league level CHB and we need that role covered more than a third tall position. At least he can influence some marking contests unlike Liam.

Yeah i should've been stronger on the COIs in my above post, they are substantial. I'm a bit surprised he is even putting his hand up to be honest, as i think he would have to basically remove himself from his sports agency which i assume is more lucrative financially than a ceo role.

Perhaps that makes sense, with his kids now past dependancy maybe he's looking for a change and I'm sure he'd be more than comfortable financially, and it might even be a good sign to show just how keen he is on the role.

Definitelty not opposed, because he is very well credentialed. Just hope this is being driven by the right process and a bit concerned about the boys club which is forming in our senior positions.

Correct, it should be an experienced administrator of a sporting organisation or allied field. The days of being a past player as a measure or criteria of best candidate should be long gone. Mark Anderson was more than competent, had a sport administration background and had a successful tenure. Hopefully his replacement will be just as suitable, and preferably not one of the good ole boys that AFL HQ and club administration is littered with.

And hopefully we don't do a hatchet job on an 'old boy' before the facts are in simply because previous 'old boys' haven't worked out . . . eh?

Be kind. In this new world of cancel culture, inclusivity and merit-based hiring, jobs for mates is just about the last thing that white middle aged males can hold onto.

Not sure about this. Back to the future?

No conflict? Right skill set? Thorough search of available options?

Happy to be corrected
