What sort of chips?

If it's kicking balls only that are chipped....they probably give data for ball speed, flight variance, spin, etc. Dont think its to track whether a ball goes thru the uprights.

If the kickers share the same ball as regular play, then the chips are for first down markers, as the UFL do.
