Ch 7 Commentary - is it intervention time?

I try to watch without commentary, or with it dialed down - but I've noticed two things this year: the crowd noise appears to be muted, a lot more than previous.
And, I'd say the AFL have tightened up the 'don't criticise umpiring decisions' directive. To the point of comedy, really. IF someone slips up and says something, they're usually greeted by complete silence from the others. Or, ridiculous excuses for the decision.
This goes for Fox as well.

Darcy referred to playing on TIO Stadium in Darwin as the biggest stage of all time. He was talking about Johnston from the Suns, and I assume he meant of his (Johnston's) life.

Also referred to Rowell as brilliant when he got a handball receive from a pack and took off. Something you will see a couple of hundred times this weekend.

I just ate an apple, according to old mate, Darce, I was brilliant and was clearly producing on the biggest stage of all time.

Did you do it with amazing athleticism?

No doubt they had been given the word to pump it up - it was so obvious

I know it's like shooting Bambi, but Matthew Richardson needs to offer more.

Either he doesn't know much, or doesn't have the confidence to deliver proper expert analysis.

Only makes safe, bland, non-controversial comments.

From what I remember, Bambi didn't constantly berate his teammates in the forest and need specialist coaching to work on his body language.

I don't think confidence is this issue, he just doesn't have the knowledge to provide enlightening content. Richo has extracted maximum mileage from being a 'good bloke' and feels comfortable enough in his position to not bother about developing his knowledge of modern tactics.

The difference in quality between his comments and someone like Luke Hodge is stark.

That's his role. Ling's too. White noise and window dressing when the 'stars' are performing.

Does Richo have a job in the off season? Or does he make decent coin during footy season that he takes summer off?
As on-air talent he would be on at least 200k a year surely.
