We dont need them to tell us what we are seeing. We are literally seeing it.

I watch with the sound low or off because they not only add nothing, they detract from the game.

There was a moment early on in the game where they were silent and we (the viewer) were able to take in more of the crowd noise. Having that the ENTIRE game would be epic, riding the cheers or boos of the crowd would be stellar. In fact AFL commentary should be more like tennis - only commentate once a goal is scored :p

Had an absolute nightmare. Felt sorry for him.
Bit difficult to feel sorry for someone who is a commentator by profession, incredibly well paid at that, who has had all season to get the players names and numbers correct and would have known for months he was calling a Grand Final. If it was Round 1, sure, mistakes will occur. Grand Final day is a bit different.

Nah mate, felt bad for him. He’s caught between radio BT and TV BT. He totally ducked it yesterday. Maybe a victim of over confidence. Absolute train wreck.

His style is a matter of personal preference (though he does give off mid-week energy), but we entered Kelli Underwood territory this year.

The vanilla stylings of Alastair Nicholson never seemed so appealing heading into next year. Apart from that, Channel 7's ability to gather the least engaging commentary teams is quite remarkable.

I had the volume pretty low, but what was particularly bad about BT's Grand Final call?

Calling players the wrong name, calling a goal a point and vice versa a few times, saying Dennis Pagan when talking about Fagan.

So what was the emotional announcement?

BT is giving up eating party pies while calling the game.

Looks like BT and JB will be around for a while.

There would be little room for Whateley in Seven’s commentary line-up, with the network’s former head of sport Lewis Martin handing James Brayshaw a new five-year contract earlier this year before his own exit, two of the sources said. Commentator Brian Taylor was also handed a new five-year deal this year.

That's almost like a President in their last days giving a pardon.
