Pretty easy changes tbh.

Out: reef injured in elliot
Sub: one of poulter, macrae, bianco off yest vfl (though not a fan of kids as subs)

I’ll say it again. T brown needs to play vfl all season. Then make a decision. He’s not up to afl lvl as it is.
While T brown continues to get a game, even as sub, WHE deserves a spot in the team. As others have stated, somebody needs to show the kind of VFL form required to dislodge him from his position, and that is just not happening.

Pretty easy this week

Out: Reef
In: Elliot

Tyler brown goes out, probably needs a full game in the VFL, but also we should do the right thing as a club, only has 11 more chances to play with his brother in a pies jumper may as well let that happen before they go their separate ways
What separate ways? Aren't they going out together at year's end?

Nope. The AFL players run faster and hit harder. Everything is done with more power and velocity. A so called tough suburban footballer would be hammered in the AFL due to his slower reaction time and leg speed. AFL players rarely struggle when they return to local footy because it is tougher and more contested-it's because they are generally older and way past their best. They also make great position but the players around them lack the ability to hit targets or use them.

Aaron Mullett returned to Mooroolbark after being delisted by Carlton. He was never a physical player but last weekend he had 37 possessions and kicked five goals in first division of the Eastern Football League. It's a good standard competition and he shines as do most ex AFL players who haven't got fat or too old.
Because every AFL player leaves they league when they are old.

A lot do shine but a lot also struggle to have the impact expected and just go from club to club

The "physicality" is not "way higher" unless speed and strength play no factors in physicality. This is a particularly ridiculous line of argument
That's correct. I considered myself a fairly tough footballer but slow as a wet week.
Put me in an afl match aside from not knowing what was going on,the sheer speed they play at would be terrifying.
Like driving around the local streets thinking you're fast till you hop in a f1 car.

You initially wrote, "Go to any local level game and the physicality is way higher than the AFL in general".

Congratulations. That is the dumbest statement I have read on BigFooty.

You realise that most AFL athletes comeback to local footy and a lot struggle with the more contested shit skill style of game. As covering the ground is less of a premium in local footy as compared to the contested stuff a lot of players carry more size as they don’t have to be so fit. Saying because the AFL is the highest comp it is the toughest physically is laughable.
Cant have this at all. AFL at the top level is played in a relative shoebox these days but at a pace thats faster than its ever been. When you get hit its by someone strong, big and moving at speed. It is just more physically demanding than the lower levels. As to ex AFL players struggling the experience of playing and watching with enough of them is they dominate the lower grades. They generally dont go too far down the grades but even at the best country, surburban or ammo level they stand out.

If they went down the grades they would just stand out more.

Lol, look at the size of players now. They are all leaner than ever, the game is a lot less physical than it has ever been and merely playing in the AFL doesn’t make you a hard player

Suggest you take a bit of time to think how Newton's Second Law of Physics might work in a contact sport when players are faster.

Grant they are lean, Patrick Cripps is a 95kg 6'5" lean mid, but he is pretty powerful. Suggest any local league mid who wandered out onto their ground and found an opposition mid of the same dimensions and strength as Cripps would be imagining they had a pretty tough day ahead

And how many high speed collisions do we see? Hardly any also you bring up physics yet it is mass times acceleration so your argument has to be based on in the contest the increase of acceleration outweighs the reduction of mass

AFL has never been quicker or more congested. The heat and pressure is just always on in a way that it never has been before. A lot of panicky releases or supposedly soft plays are about trying to keep the ball moving rather than about physical fear.

Hoskin really let himself down yesterday. I think he goes out and can play as sub, needs a slight kick up the backside. Clearly Reef goes out.

Ins - Elliott, Macrae
Outs - McInnes, WHE (and T.Brown)

Sub - WHE

Many more high speed collisions in todays footy than the past. Makes sense as play is much more confined, and the game moves at a much greater speed than in the past. Also with the brutality taken out of the game and the cameras meaning every contest is available for assessment modern players throw themselves at the contest much more than back in days of past. I have watched since the 60's and the modern players bravery is ahead of any time I have seen. Concussions are so much more common because of the unprotected course players take IMHO

Cripps maybe 195cm and 95kg but I would sooner get hit by him than Voss at 183cm and 90kg

In: Elliott and Ruscoe
Out: McInnes and Brown

WHE can thank his lucky stars that Johnson isn’t fit because that was putrid. I counted 4 times he tried to hack it off the ground when he had time to pick it up. As a senior player he needs to be a lot better. He’s the sub.

Ruscoe to play back, Noble off a wing and Steele into WHE’s HHF role.

Don't mind the changes. However, Steele has found form on the wing so won't be going anywhere.

I would guess you wouldnt be a fan of either, nor would I. Both would be frightening to play against. Voss at 183 would at least be a little more equitable to a 170cm bloke like me. Also there would be a lot more evasion room playing against Voss in his day, Cripps would eat you or me for breakfast in the confines he plays in.

More chance of Ginny getting a free kick than Howey getting rubbed out for that.
He won’t go for it because he didn’t get him high, but I’m more nervous about JDG running over the ball to bump Jiath front on. It’s a very fine line on those one’s and guys have gone because of the duty of care element. For instance Jiath whiplashes his head into the ground, goes off concussed and JDG gets at least 2. Howe’s correctly wasn’t deemed worthy of a 50 (AFAIK I was at the game and it was confusing) so I struggle to see it being looked at by the MRO.

Like him or not, WHE aint going anywhere until one of the younger guys shows they are ready to take his spot.

This is the thing. If there was a 190cm high half forward ready to go then the change is obvious. Right now though it's the likes of Macrae, Poulter that are next in line but are not natural forwards. Would be awesome if Ash Johnson was up and about soon.
