Yes MMC, a cleaning-out-process has to begin and give some of the younguns (doesn't mean young guns) from Box Hill a chance to show their wares. That means the C-O-P will come on sooner rather than later, compliments of the wholesale thuggery last week-end.Originally posted by My Man Croad
It will be Carlton v Box Hill Hawks by the time the tribunal is finished Wednesday night. So take your pick. We might get to see some up and coming young talent and get some sort of positive out of the game.
Wholesale thuggery's a bit harsh Gary! I was at the game and there were a few off the ball incidents leading up to the melee, which haven't been dealt with. Rightly or wrongly, our blokes flew the flag and while it was disappointing to see them lose their focus afterwards. I feel they can learn from this that if you take your mind off the job, good sides will take you apart. But we had to at least be seen to be standing our ground. Not sure what station you watched the match on up North. But after watching a tired show like Talking Footy last night, who's host Tim Watson looks like the Skipper of a rudderless ship,it's easy to see why the media will sensationalise in order to boost flagging ratings. The indiscretions of Vandenberg and Brown were stupid and inexcusable but borne i think out of anger and frustration at the sides current plight. While i did not see Barkers report,i thought Picioane only responded to what McPhee was trying to initially dish up. As for Chance Bateman, his challenge on Winderlich was slightly late but only warranted a free kick when the dust had settled. When challenged by Mark Johnson,he showed the type of mongrel that has been lacking all year in standing his ground to a player who gets away with this sort of rubbish all the time. I'm not condoning violence and their response afterwards was disappointing to say the least. But having seen T.V. footage as well as been at the game i think that the media outlets will jump on whatever boosts ratings, sells papers or whatever. There were a few late challenges and indiscriminate tackles in the first half on Saturday which haven't been given much attention at all. Having said that, the clubs hand will now be forced in the blooding of youngsters and giving more game time to inexperinced players and as MMC said, hopefully that will be a positive for the club in allowing them to go forward in there development. Some of the players reported on Saturday were non contributors anyway so the damage in terms of personnel lost may not be as bad as we all think and the injection of a bit of youthful enthusiasm as well as forcing more experinced players to take on leadership roles may turn out to be a positive for the future...here's hoping! I also noted with some curiosity that Mark Harvey on Talking Footy when questioned on Dermotts role in the whole affair said he would have no problem with a person in Dermotts position having a word to the players in the rooms at 1/2 time. A different response to Sheeds.. Makes me wonder if Harvs isn't coveting a senior position away from Windy Hill next year..? Just a little food for thought!Originally posted by Gary Shadforth

It is not such a bad thing. To my mind it will be interesting to observe some players who haven't been given reasonable game time than to watch some of the same old tiresome rabble running around embarrassing our club, week after week.
Don't mind the look of R-M's side either, solid back six and even though the front half maybe a little inexperienced, the rotation of Thompson,Everitt,Lekkas etc up forward may provide a bit of necessary leadership. Really looking forward to getting a look at Brennan should he play and i think after 40+ games a chance at leadership wouldn't hurt Hodge, who showed a bit last week for a guy that's missed alot of footy. Thanks for your comments Gary, cheers,TF.Originally posted by Gary Shadforth
TF excellent post and I like your summing up of various aspects of just where our club and team is at the moment.
Yes, I agree, 'wholesale thuggery' is a bit harsh. After reading your well reasoned and thought-out deliberations, please let me make a retraction.
I agree and am persuaded with what you have written about Chance, 'When challenged by Mark Johnson, he showed the type of mongrel that has been lacking all year in standing his ground to a player who gets away with this sort of rubbish'.
As I said, with an impelled restructuring of the side at the selection table tomorrow I feel we fans have something more interesting to look forward to. I like the look of Ram-Man's proposed team -
B: Osborne Hay Jacobs
HB: Smith Croad Bateman
C: Ries Hodge (c) Greene
HF: Ladson Brennan Kane
F: Williams Thompson Miller
Foll: Everitt Ball Lekkas
INT: Campbell Tallis Dixon Lonie
It would auger well for the future if, say, Ladson, Brennan and Kane put on good solid performance at half-forward and send messages to the likes of Dutchy, Dicko and Barks that they are yesterday's men, with full respect to the latter for the services they have given the Hawks over the years, but the time has come I'm afraid. And I wish young Ball and Miller well and hope they also can consolidate places in the team for the future.
Yes, hopefully, there are some positives to come out of the suspensions (pending?).
Thanks again, TF and R-M, you've put something good into my day - have a good one yourselves.
Gary.
