Changes for Geelong game (and match-ups)

A few points.

My matchups would be:
Shoey vs Hawkins
Gilham vs Mooney
Benny vs Gazza
Brown vs Chapman
Sewell vs Bartel
Hodge vs Selwood
Sammy vs Ling <--- they have like a rivalry... i see it continuing
Cyril vs Enright
Guerra vs Stokes
Murphy vs Stevey J
Buddy vs Scarlet
Rough vs Taylor
Dowler vs Harley
Lewis vs Corey

Some mouth watering match ups there mate. Usually Lingy goes to Mitchell but i wouldnt be suprised to see if he goes to Hodgey after his last few games should he start in the guts. Also because you fellas may not be expecting it and it might mess around a few match ups.

If not Selwood vs Hodge head to head would be worth the cost of entry.

You guys dont seem to give much thought to Hodgey going back to the backline this week. Obviously its worked for you guys before vs the Cats, surely its something the coaches would be strongly considering.

Sewell vs Bartel. I rate Sewell highly but if Jimmy plays (still a little injury cloud) and can produce a game like he did vs the Saints Sewell could be in for a long day.

Also alot us over on the cats board want to see how Mummy goes up forward for abit and also want to see him spend some time down back on a quality forward probably the big Rough and this seems an excellent game to do it, something to think about if the coaches are like minded. Would probably mean Tomahawk into the ruck and we might even see abit of Taylor up forward.

Chappy vs Brown would be fantastic to watch. Two hard nuts going at it all day.

Might see Mackie Vs Buddy if Buddy is pushing up the ground, we wont want Scarlett dragged to far up the ground and Mackie can be dangerous around our half forward, hes a long beautiful kick.

To many match ups to go through and try to analyze.

Should be a cracking game!!

Agree, but by the same token, Bartel will have to bring his defensive A-game as Sewell has become alot more attacking this year. For mine though, Bartel is a far better defensive player that GAJ, and a much better tackler. Would be a fantastic match-up

Very true, Jimmy has been spending some time in defense this year and has improved defensively (was already pretty good) so hopefully hes up to it. Both great players and each of them could end up doing alot of damage if they are able to run around as they please.

There is so many possible mid-field match ups I dont think either team will be able to get all the match ups the want.

I'd go with no changes. Side played well against the Pies, and try and keep the unity and desire there by having faith and going unchaged. Renouf was very good on the weekend, and added some mongrel, so can't see Campbell getting back.

A lot depends on S Johnson coming back.

Match-ups:
Gilham - Mooney
Shoenmakers - Hawkins
C Brown - S Johnson (if he plays)
McGlynn - Ablett
Sewell - Selwood

No more match-ups. The cluster takes out a lot of one on ones anyway. Just get B Mac to annoy the f$%k out of ablett and leave it at that. Make sure Sammy takes Ling away from the middle and play him forward if necessary.

I agree, other than McGlynn wearing Ablett like a glove, we just need to concentrate on playing our own brand of football. If we can get a few goals ahead by doing this, watch Geelong start to play reactive football. (Unfortunately, the same would probably happen to us if we get a few behind...)

After mightymouses fantastic job last effort against an in-form didak, you'd have to say hes earnt the right to have a crack at the no1 man in the competition Gablett Jnr.

I for one am really looking forward to see Bmac get under his skin.

Benny - go nuts, no holds barred. make him your bitch! :D

Personally I don't think Benny would have the same impact on jnr, takes quite a lot to unsettle him unlike Dids who was peeved right from the start.

I actually like the idea of Roughie starting down back, he does seem out of sorts and needs to get his confidence back - switch between dowler and roughie throughout the game (keep them guessing) and I don't think it's a bad idea to try and stretch the cats defence as we did with collingwood either, so for me leave the team as tall as possible.

I think the key here is for Clarko to mix it up as much as possible, I know our guys are pretty good at adapting (have had to do so all year) and get bomber thinking rather than being predictable - make them worry about us rather than focusing on them.

TBH, I also like Dragz idea of chucking a tag on Ling as stupid as it may sound - try and get under his skin a little and take his focus off Mitchell.

Judging from last weeks performance there will probably be no change.

It wouldn't surprise if Campbell and Stokes are added to the squad, Stokes v Stokes has perfect symetry. Possibly Dowler out for Stokes, depends on the weather, we may need an extra small at the expense of a tall.

Can't see AC wanting to play anybody underdone or with questionable fitness - so that makes Dew very unlikely.

Great to see K3 contributing, he threaded through some fine attacking handballs last week. Adds a bit of hardness around the scrums that has been missing, or left to too few, good on him.

hey good luck for this game guys. I saw you guys destroy the pies, you bring that against geelong this week and its bye bye time for the pussy cats.

The umps wont let him get away with it against Gaz. Watch for the tiggy frees at stoppages if McGlynn plays on him...

They hate Didak. They lurve Gaz. Add to that the fact Didak is a psycho!

Yeah I agree. If McGlynn tags Ablett I expect 4-5 frees his way without a doubt. Probably another soft 50 in there as well.

I thought Changa did OK on Yablett in the GF, about as close to a win as your likely to get so I cant see why you wouldnt give him the job for the majority of the time. Probably rotating and trying to make him accountable to an opponent as best you can.

Benny Mac isnt going to get under handball jnrs skin the way he did with DieHack. If he did it would take physical contact and that would result in 13 goals from free kicks or 3-4 boxes of Kleenex Silk Touch being used.

Just heard that Scarlett is also doubtful, having re-injured himself in the Melbourne game. SO could be no ABlett, Scarlett, Ottens, Johnson or Bartel.

As much as we like to comment on how handball happy and soft he is we won't complain

That is so untrue... hahaha his the contested ball king in my eyes. HAHA nothing soft about him. And how mitch took him out in the grandfinal... and he got back up and took his kick. With no real complaints. NOTHING soft about him.

Love watching the lil guy play... just not against us.

Unchanged line-up. I think we will beat them

Now, there is news out that Mark Blake is injured and unavailable. Geelong has gone into party mode. And Mark thompson won't be coaching as he is too hungover from partying as a result of Blake being injured.

So what! Blake is crap anyway!

Whether or not thats true about Scarlett and Ablett, Bartel will play. Johnson and Harley the club have already stated are iffy.

One huuuuge factor that needs to be considered in all this is Mother Nature.

Earlier in the week I saw Satdee was meant to be cold and drizzly. Is that still the case, anyone?

If that is the case, no offence guys but I think that weighs huuugely in our favour. If it is relatively fine I give you guys a decent shot. If not a decent shot, then you're way over the odds at $4 or whatever you are.

GF day last year, I couldn't help but think on my way to the ground that the day was set up for you. Even tho Buddy and Roughy did next to nuttin, I think having close to no clouds in the sky helped you.

Cold, wet conditions and guys like Bartel Selwood, Chapman and co come into their own. Hard, seasoned bodies.

I know (and highly rate) Hodgey and Sewell, but I think how you guys rely on your scoring power compared to ours is a lil different.

Chapman, (Johnson should he be fit), Stokes, Varcoe, Byrnes, Mooney, Hawkins ... we rely more on our smalls.

I think Hawthorn scoring power and I immediately think Buddy and Roughy. If I then think rain and cold, that doesn't seem to agree w them ('But what about the last Q in Lonny?' ... but there was no Matthew Scarlett in Lonny)

Go back and watch it again. Franklin might as well have been playing in sunny conditions the way he was playing the ball.

You obviously missed our last game in tassie and if you think that buddy doesn't handle wet conditions, you are sure in for a treat. :thumbsu:
