Himmelberg was shit in the ruck.
Douglas was crap. Like he has been in the last 3 games.
Davis had ok moments but looked a touch behind.
Murphy isnt dangerous enough around goals.
We didnt tag kelly, and got burnt bad.
Oh and Gibbs was crap for a supposed gun mid. Let him rot in the sanfl

I don't want to drop Davis or Gibbs cause I'm not sure if the SANFL merry-go-round helps, but numbers will dictate they likely do. Douglas out for Lynch, Davis and Gibbs for CEY and Milera

I know they wanted to go less contested, so maybe Greenwood is in the gun, who didn't play well either, though I think Rockliff is back next week. Maybe 50/50 on Gibbs or Greenwood, if Gibbs can get back up and running he's handy. Clearly above SANFL at this point.

You can't be serious re Gibbs. Just putrid lack of effort.

That low mark by Hawkins when the game was in the balance... yes, would've caused his jumper to need a wash, but could've literally fallen over sideways and spoiled that.

Sick of his soft crap.

Even if no frontliners were coming back I'd drop him for someone who cares

Whoever's closest to the ball at the time. The 2nd ruck is the least important position in the team.
Exactly right.

Choose the player on what they're doing 90% of the game, not the 10% bit.

If Himmelberg plays, that's fine - I quite like him though he struggled tonight - but it needs to be because we consider him our 2nd best marking forward available.

Not because he can struggle through 10 minutes of ruckwork against the opposition's second-stringer

Whoever can kick inside 50 gets picked. Geelong to me plays a very similar style to us but their inside 50s are on a different level.
Our kicking to position was scarily bad

Somehow we manage to put the ball in positions that even running at full speed for the entire flight path of the kick (several minutes in some cases...) our forwards cannot get to the fall of the ball.

To highlight this ineptitude mathematically, the forwards should conservatively be able to cover 15 metres while the ball is in the air.

I'm pretty sure to work out area it's pies are squared which means our kickers have an area of 706.95 square metres to hit.

That's like... several barns taped together.

And we regularly don't get within a bull's roar of it. Even when we 'hit' a target the ball has usually bounced first so the forward gets mown down anyway.

Our forwards need to re-think things completely and all six need to start tagging their opponents. It's the only way they'll get within cooee of the ball on a regular basis.

Out: Gibbs Douglas Murphy Davis Gallucci
In: Cey Milera Lynch Stengle Jones

Tonight's efforts by Gibbs were unacceptable. He would never play another game for us if I was in charge. He needs to go end of the year.

Or we could just keep bombing it in to the first guy we see.

This received the Ben Hart stamp of approval!

Even the bombs lead to uncontested opposition marks!

We'd be better off kicking along the ground

Across half forward Douglas, Gallucci and Davis combined for something like two tackles which is terrible but I'm not sure we're creating enough opportunities to tackle.

I don’t think Milera will get up, just running laps this week and he’s had the back issue for 3 weeks at least.

So I’m basing my selections on him not being right.

Out: Gibbs, Douglas, Davis

In: CEY, Lynch and Jones

We won’t drop Murphy even though he did nothing and I don’t think they’d drop Greenwood.

Jones needs to play out the year. First round picks from last year are getting games, if we rated him that highly back him in and give him games.

Douglas is in the 2016 Thompson position towards the last half of the year it looms. He's clearly past it and struggling to impact games, but they don't have the guts to drop him. They're basically hiding him in a forward heavy role, we were short in the midfield with Milera out and didn't even bother to try putting him in there and chucked him back to do something.

We didn’t tonight. Look at their small forwards compared to Murphy, Betts, Douglas, Galluci and Davis.

Theirs got involved in the play, they were dangerous and kicked goals. Ours couldn’t get a possession.

Thompson couldn't even run, Douglas still can so he's trying in games but his slow reflex is causing him to fumble, hence when he gets the ball, all he does is hack kicks it.

We're generally a slow side, probably made slower by Milera being out. It made sense for us to slow games down because of it. That didn't happen tonight.

Gooch has speed, but not really a grit and grind defensive player. The ones who are like the Crouches, Sloane and Greenwood/CEY are all too slow outside the contest. 258 to 211 on uncontested possessions, they had it much easier once they got it out. That's why we needed to start tagging and turn it into a grind which we didnt do.

How could they get them though?

Do we have the ability to kick to a lead? No.

Do we kick to a contest and create crumbs? No.

Do we hold our structure ahead of the ball to keep even numbers? Do we create space for other forwards? Do we put blocks on for team mates? Does our defence rebound the ball quickly so the forwards have space to work in? No. No. No. No. No.

We're building quite a long line of failed half forwards (or guys who don't quite do enough). It's a bit of a graveyard role and the only success we seem to have is the opportunistic stuff like Betts. Not much system stuff.

Against lesser teams or when our midfield/defence dominates it doesn't matter and we've still been able to grind out good wins. But against a quality team the bar is set higher.

And I dunno about you guys... but I'm starting to think Ben Hart's not up to it.

I was in favour of giving Douglas' HFF spot to Gibbs.

Screw that.

Give it to Jones or McHenry and give them the rest of the year. Can't do any worse and will be a returning investment next year and the next decade.

Often we kick it in to no one who is in the vacinity. Their theory is bomb it in hope one of our players gets the ground ball. Their is no system and constantly limited player(s)in our forward line to kick too. Our forwards are still in the defence and midfield. This system stinks big time. It will not stand up at all.
