How about the guy you've named to come in who hasn't played a game of Australian Rules football at any level for 8 months?
I think we need more goalkicking power and Dumont isn't a forward. I also think Fantasia is the type of guy who could come in without much prep and still have a big impact. If they made him the Medi sub then they must think physically he is either ready or very close to ready to play a full game.

Geelong are ripe for the picking next week. We need to pick a team that is capable of beating them on their home ground.

To me, this means don’t flirt with form. Leave injured players out unless absolutely necessary. Dixon and especially Fantasia, need to break into this current line up with exposed form, not just their golden tickets.

I’d swap Dumont for Fantasia as the sub and if Jonas is good to go I’d bring him in for Frederick. (Edit: forgot Freddo played yesterday. Needs to come out)

Other than that I’d leave the team as is.

Geelong aren't going to allow a huge hole of space in our forward line for Marshall, Georgie and Jezza to lead into.

I think we need to bring in Dixon for this reason, but also be more targeted towards kicking to all of our players on a lead.

Try what we did against North and we will see a billion intercept marks.

I'd suggest (most) people calling for Mots to come out of the side are doing so on the basis of wanting to bring in a younger option rather than on the basis of not thinking he's in our best 22 players.

For a team that doesn't look like winning a flag this year, unless you're a club legend like a Boak/Gray, the older a player gets the better they've got to be to hold a spot IMO. Given the choice between Motlop and, say, Farrell, even if Motlop is 5% better I'd probably rather play Farrell at this point.

You're argument is fair. Mots is 31 so if it's Farrell or Mots, pick Farrell. I just don't see him as a gold pass selection as many do. He's working his ass off and that is what you want around young talented developing players. If his work rate drops he should be straight out. In his current role though, work rate doesn't always = possessions or goals.

Happy to keep the forward line as is, Marshall is starting to develop at long last. Leave Dixon in the sanfl, I doubt he’s even ready for afl footy. Fantasia I would love to see back but would be underdone, should’ve got playing time against the Roos.
Jonas needs to come in

I think Motlop's playing the most consistent footy since he's been here. I'd have delisted him at the end of last year but he's clearly best 22 at the moment and should keep his spot

Completely agree. He plays a role that is largely going to get unrewarded in Ken's gameplan. One of if not the hardest runner on our team. Always close to the top in terms of metres run, sprints and repeat sprints every week based on the AFL Tracker.

He's doing his job nicely. Clear best 22 right now and if he keeps this form going there's absolutely no reason why he can't go round another year.

Raz if fit plays, maybe give Robbie a week as Sub? If Raz doesn’t get through a great replacement, if not activated before 4th quarter Robbie may enjoy a run on the pill for a quarter when the mids are 3/4’s of the way through a game?

Jonas and Dumont back in if fit. Fredrick first in, first out and I don’t think Jones and Jonas can play in the same back 6, so would be bringing Jones back to the SANFL to continue to work on his midfield craft.

Robbie has been absolutely dominating, why on earth would we make him sub in such a huge game?

Robbie has been good, what is a game down there really worth in round 10? Would rather ensure he still has plenty to give in round 23. At 4-5 with Essendon to ply before the Bye it’s an opportunity to bring Faz in for a run, likely to kick 4.

This is the exact scenario we got Faz for. Big games.

It's worth everything when you're 4 and 5.

Riley Bonner is still listed as 3-4 weeks on the Club web site.

Jonas is Captain and therefore will come back in and possibly Frederick will make way for him.

Imagine if we brought back Dixon and played him at full back on Hawkins while keeping the same 3 talls up forward.
Considered the same thing. Might be a possibility if Jonas had a bad bout of Covid. By the way Ken is talking Charlie will play locally.

Probably the biggest test for Hayes so far. Was beaten around the ground against goldstein, blicavs/stanley probably the most athletic ruck duo in the comp and no doubt scott will try and exploit this. Sam will have them beaten in the taps but around the ground will be his biggest test

after seeing us today im starting to feel a stirring deep inside...something is brewing....i think we are starting to play proper football
Havent been hoodwinked enough in the last 6 years? Enjoy these home and away wins before the inevitable soul crushing heart break come finals, presuming we make it.

Hayes is the big test for whoever the **** Geelong pick.

I think the negative comments on Mots are a bit misplaced this year. He is working extremely hard and some of his link up play contributes to shots on goal. Do people not see this ?
What I see is the biggest downhill skier in our team. Hell, he might be the biggest downhill skier in our history.
I cringe when I see posts calling for Motlop to be dropped.

His current role is similar to Boak's old role. Mots has been learning this over time and has the defensive side pretty much nailed and is now working hard to incorporate attack to the role. He is working his ass off every game and it's there for all to see. It's very clear his team mates appreciate his work rate too.

To see posts calling for him to be dropped this week is crazy. 18 disposals, 2 goals and 2 goal assists.
Motlop has the defensive side nailed? By what standard?

The corpse of robbie gray, who we all lament as dragging his broken body around by sheer willpower and collectively agree on this board is a liability defensively inside 50 is averaging more tackles inside 50 and is only averaging 0.7 less pressure acts than motlop.

A kpf in Marshall has had a shot on goal from holding the ball calls something like the last 3 weeks in a row (and the umps haven’t paid a couple they should have to him either)

SPPs defensive stats in the forward half easily beat motlops.

Not only does motlop not have the defensive side nailed as you claim, the stats say he is arguably our worst in the forward half. And the eye test supports that, hell the eye test says the stats are being kind to him.

I have not called for him to be dropped this week, purely on the fact we don’t have the fit players that can play his position.

Yeah but how many pressure acts?

What is a game against a team rated 5-4 when we're 4-5? It's quite possibly the difference between playing finals and missing them, that's what it is. No point saving Robbie for finals if we don't make finals.
