Fyfe clearly didnt go on ball in round 1 because of his plantar fasciitis. I doudt we will see him outside the forward line when he returns

Having had plantar fascitis myself I doubt Fyfe will be able to play much football this season. It's a horrible, painful condition that is slow to heal.

Fyfe is in a position where he can have professional attention for his condition seven days a week and that may help him heal. It would be nearly impossible to play football while it was inflamed.

To be perfectly honest I was a bit surprised by how much he was blowing after only playing 1.5 quarters. He looked spent and not ready for a full game. Maybe the emotional energy expended on a derby debut took it out of him as much as the physical toll.

For a guy who played a quarter and a bit, he spent 28% of the game on the field.

It's that wing role, up and back, up and back, up and back

Would last a bit longer in the guts imo

Interesting

If we say he came onto the field with a third of the game to go, then he was on track for time on ground to match with the likes of O'Meara who spent a lot of time forward.

I'm not too worried about it, I don't think a player of his age would be capable of running a whole game on the wing anyway. It would be a freak occurrence to be finding a player of his size and capabilities football wise who could run that well so early.

Erasmus can, if Johno's fitness sucks than we should bring in Ras. We really need to start developing our draftee mids. I would rather play Johno half a game with Henry sub though. Players get fit by playing matches.

Would you prefer to play Erasmus as a wingman instead of his best positions of inside mid and half forward?

I don't think Erasmus has the kick on him to be in a distributing by foot role. I want Erasmus in the team but that's not where I want him.

Compare Ethan Hughes and Neil Erasmus for the wing role. Hughes has him on running capability, speed, strength, size and I don't think anyone can match Hughes for bravery in the contest. Erasmus is not as good of a kick as Hughes and I don't think Hughes is one of our best kicks of the footy, but he is tidy enough.

Johnson on the other hand is a similar inside mid but has the weapons of elite vision and ball use - he can work on the wing because of that.

Based off Adelaide's season so far they can lose the stoppage battles but are highly effective inside fifty mostly because a scrappy kick inside can be turned into goals by their small forwards. They will tear us apart on turnover so I want less turnovers. That's Johnson over Erasmus.

Right but we can just rotate him with Aish on the wing if skill is an issue. He's not going to be the reason we lose. And for all the fear of Adelaide's forwardline, they have only kicked over 100 points once this season.

I can’t get my head around you folks

The AFL is a tight comp these days and if a team is 5-10% off they will struggle

7 injured oppo players in-game is 30% off minimum probably more

Anything good that happened late in that game was a complete illusion

That was the worst performance by us this year by a mile if we aren’t treating that game as another loss down at home base we are kidding ourselves

There was nothing wrong with the first half. The third quarter was horrific and the last quarter was meaningless

If you couldn’t see any improvement in us in the first half when the Eagles were full strength & playing as hard & fast as they could then you’re being a bit pessimistic.

That was not a poor side they fielded. In some departments superior to ours (forward especially) while Shuey & Kelly remain in the top bracket Centre clearance players in the game& Sheed always tears us apart.

They took care of GWS the week before.

That 3rd quarter was them throwing everything at us in a last gasp & then we comfortably put them away as we should have.

I think we’re a long way off what our best was last year when the team was humming but that was encouraging, especially seeing some players find form (Serong, Darcy) & Jackson & Hughes, O’Meara growing into their roles.

Adelaide are a serious challenge this year so we’ll see what we see.

I actually agree with both of you here tbh.

We were winning prior to West Coast injuries and were trying to play a style that will win us more games. Obviously I'd hope we were a little better but ball movement in the first half was a step in the right direction.

That was followed by one of the worst quarters in club history. Everything that was bad about the first two weeks was back. It was very concerning.

Hoping we were going through the motions in the third quarter but honestly even then I'm not sure what that'd say about the attitude of the playing group.

That we should've won by more is undeniable.

It's tough, if they'd played well the first two weeks then I think you put that 3rd quarter down to a young team getting way ahead of themselves and a WC team who had nothing to lose who threw everything they could at us and ignore it. Because it was some of the same glaring issues as the first two weeks - mainly getting beat up on what seemed like every ground ball contest - it was a lot scarier and more worrying.

I'm not sure we should have won by more, just won it comfortably a lot earlier (it was a 7 goal win after all).

I am very concerned for the midfield battle this week, we have to win there not just to get this win but to get some confidence the midfield is able to compete.
