Do you think it has been his worst or do you think its the same bewildering selections he's always done?

We were all hoping he was going to stop making the same rookie mistakes and we have players begging to play (and to be dropped).

His selections have always been deplorable I just think our expectations have risen in the last few years but Nicks competence hasn't risen accordingly.

Great post.

Its 100% the same old Nicks. Whats changed? Two things:

1. Injury list: We have had the best injury list in the AFL from 2021 - 2023. An Absolute dream run and we couldn't even make th final

2, Expectations - We were the AFL Darlings of the offseason. The highest scoring team robbed of a finals berth by an umpiring decision.

Interesting times indeed.

The annoying thing about Sholl is he is the type we need

Finds space, predominantly outside. An outlet for our inside ball winners. Would complement our structure well

Problem is that he isn't quite a good enough kick or quite quick enough to make up for his short comings (unable to win a contest, non-entity in the air, can't break a tackle, feeble tackler himself)

Any sort of intensity or pressure and he's nowhere

Honestly sick of the hate towards Ned.

He has 2 roles which he plays where he's great.

Sub - He's a high energy individual, which is amazing coming off the bench. As others are fatiguing, he can come on and run everyone off their legs. We saw it vs Collingwood last year where he had 16 touches in a half. And we saw it vs St Kilda where he had 13 touches and a goal in a quarter.

What we got from Berry on the weekend was no different then what we've seen from McHenry as the sub. Infact, McHenry has been more consistent than Soligo/Berry/Pedlar who have all played as the sub in past seasons. Those 3 are confidence players (Along with others like O'Brien/Gollant/Fogarty/Thilthorpe), while McHenry is a terrier. Give those 3 confidence with the start, back them in, and if and only if they can't get into the game (Which we've seen here and there) you then bring in McHenry. You know what you'll get when you input that energy in the 3rd or 4th quarter. And it's an asset.

But, if we are to play him from the start, the only role that works for him is a FP who doesn't go beyond 75m out from goal. There is no other player in our team since Tom Lynch left who I trust more with ball in hand 60-75m out for that final i50 kick. He doesn't blaze away to the top of the square. He lowers his eyes and hits up a good lead to 40m out.

McHenry in one way is a massive bust. For a first round pick to be relegated to role player? Embarrassing, this is what you expect from a 3rd round or rookie pick. However, he has those 2 above roles (impact sub/final i50 kick) which play to his strengths and make the team better, and could very well be the cream on top which takes a team from a challenger to a premiership winning team.

You don't build a team around him, but if you're pushing for finals, or higher. You keep them, because he is the type of player which will take you further.

Having said that, shoehorning him into the Murphy role rn is a disaster. Maybe Nicks can just eradicate that role cause whoever plays it is destined for a near statless game with no opportunity to work into the game and actually do anything offensively.
He's had more than his fair share of chances. Last week's game was the worst performance of a Crow's player I've ever seen. Everyone on this board except you can see that he is utter crap.

Is there any game where borlase has let us down?
I know the potential is there, but each time he plays he seems to come in and do his job.
He’s a perfectly fine option given we have two first choice key defenders out.

I think he is the wrong pick given the match ups this week though. Keane on Draper/Goldstein, Worrell on Langford, Max gets Stringer when he’s forward, and then this could’ve potentially been Curtin’s week to debut.

Just checked the 2023 SANFL thread, searched 'delist', 6 pages of posts, couldn't locate a single post calling for Dowling's delisting. You're not thinking of the wrong player?
He’s thinking of Bond.. not Dowling..

No one was calling for dowlings delisting..

Several were for bond.. a guy who is actually showing something this year and has been amongst it.. proving these posters wrong..

All we need now is for Smith to "push through a back complaint". If thats the case might aswell book in time at Mondays training for another apology.

It's not just blown chances at scoring, his mistakes not only cost us goals, they often led to the start of a scoring chain for Carlton.

Just to cheer ourselves up, let us remember the highly skilled youngster who is actually playing in the game:

I’ve watched since he’s been at the club and his composure and ability to kick to a team mates advantage stood out immediately, great pick up

This is the guys we should all be talking about!

Does anyone else think he's actually better on his left than his right? Seems to hit more attacking passes on his left while his right is more of a kick it long default option (noting he did one long pass on his left that didn't work out on the weekend).

One of our best players already

This kid will start getting tagged soon. Not many taggers will have his tank though.

Over 4 rounds he's the best runner in the comp. Today was reward for effort. He's damaging enough to warrant it but good luck to them.

Rumour has it that they were.

Who can blame them, looks like a star in the making at the moment.

This kid is a gun

Thankfully our club doesn't need to have former players endlessly hyping up players because if Sholl was at Port you can bet your bottom dollar that both Kane and Dwayne would be massively hyping up Sholl as one of the best youngsters in the AFL and putting massive pressure on his shoulders.

It's actually nice to have Sholl developing like he is and still be under the radar to some degree,

I have little doubt that he'll end up being one of the elite wingmen of the comp.

The kid is a gun.

Spot on. This kid could become our Sam Mitchell. So tidy and damaging off both legs.

A quicker Sam Mitchell with better endurance, that's an upgrade.

This kids a jet. Hard runner, deadly skills, understands how to make space, and the game seems to slow down for him when he has the ball in hand.

I've been banging on for years about how this team hasn't developed an elite outside mid in what feels like forever... Something tells me that I may be able to let that grievance go now!

Is Sholl the most prolific high-skill player on our list? Like a Gaff-type?

I'd certainly say so. Don't think we've seen someone on our list with his combination of high-skill and tank on our list in a long time

Awesome news, he is one player that has improved further this year and has star potential

Awesome news.

He is tge guy I see most likely to take the step to being elite.

Elite on the outside already. Natural improvement and continuing to build work ethic should see him become one of the first magnets on the board either on the wing or at half back through his career.

Out of all the players over the years Scholl reminds me a lot of McLeod, he has that silky smoothness about him at times.
Hopefully he has a fantastic career.

Awesome news.

I live this kid, true team man on and off the field
