Melbourne has a few players with serious speed and with Gawn in the ruck we will be roving to his ruck knocks so Mundy will have to start in the midfield along with Suban and Neale . We will have to play one man down in the forward line and play a 7 man defence . I would give Hanath first go in the ruck and just tell him to apply as much physical force he can on Gawn . If Pav plays I would like him to play close to goals as possible and let Tabener run free and as far up the ground as he can there by drawing his defender out of Pavs way . I would replace Barlow with Hughes but on the other side of the coin Langdon could give us more pace on the outside . The main reason I want Hughes is that he matches up very well on Watts , Ibbo maybe a chance but he is not fast enough to match the pace of the Melbourne players . Garlett is the dangerous one that we just don't have a player that can go with him. Just such a shame that Grey got injured .

Stopping the young gun Hunt off the half back will go a long way to beating the demons, he has been exhilarating the past few weeks with his pace off the backline, usually when he gets a run in space the demons end up with a scoring oppurtunity

Fully expect Ross to stick to his word and drop Clarke and Hannath and Barlow is already out so the ins would probably be Griffin, Langdon and Hughes if he is ready

Watts is miles ahead of Hughes. Watts was almost in All Australian form in the early half of the season. He would destroy Hughes

Watts would destroy Hughes around the ground.

Really and taking our purple coloured glasses off for a minute explain to me how I'm completely wrong?

He played hockey most of his life and was a tremendous athlete at school.
Hughes reads the game really well and has an easy grace with the way he handles the skills (marking, kicking etc).
Looks a stone natural to me.

Just because you are good at another sport doesn't mean you don't have a football brain. I personally don't think a football brain comes solely from playing lots of footy. Some players are just naturally better at pre-empting what is going to happen and therefore they often put themselves in better positions to impact play. SPS is rated so highly because he is like that, except he does it with ball in hand which is very rare, most need to be behind the play to determine what is going on.

Hockey is a much faster game than football so in many ways Hughes actually has an advantage as he probably reads the play faster and therefore can react faster. It's like some footballers having an advantage because they played basketball - including that guy currently #1 on the player rankings. You are entitled to not like him, I for one think he has the footy brain and athletic ability to become one of our best players, he just needs experience at AFL level to grow his confidence.

He may read the ball well but his kicking isn't clean which is hugely important if he wants to play across half back. He'd often turn the ball over playing for Peel due to his kicking and decision making.

Fair enough. I haven't watched that many Peel games so I can't comment. But the AFL games and Peel games I have seen him play in I actually thought he had one of the better kicks.

It's only one example but I just think this passage of play is a good example of how he and Crozier can work off half back really well together:

Should happen every game regardless of who the opposition is. Taberner excels as Half Forward, someone needs to tell Pav to get out of the way and just stay inside 50.
Think Langdon should come in for the pace and has speed off half forward to counter Melbourne's rebounding. Sadly Hannath will be dropped for Griffin, not sure who comes in for Clarke (will need two rucks against Gawn possibly)

So Micky's finger is moving well and he will probably play this weekend.

Knew he would be pushing to come back early but I think this would be one week too early, don't want another "season" injury.

Must admit I want to see Langdon selected as well.

I never thought Barlow's injury was going to be four weeks. He'll play and play well. I think Langdon would be the only possible in this week.

Everyone make Gawn your captain in DT.

Cant see Mick making a lot of tackles this week.... But hey, I still definitely hope he plays.:thumbsu:
