Changes vs Geelong

Just off the AFL website says that Mark Mcveigh and Hayden Skipworth will be considered for early call ups to the senior team this week, despite just the one game in the VFL, and will not risk our prized recruit, Brent Prismall this early in the year,

Not taking that news well. (why not prismall?)
Seems as if

IN: McVeigh, Skipworth
OUT: NLM, Dempsey

Would Daniher or Atkinson be considered?

I think they are taking a very cautious aproach with young Prismal, he is going to be a very good player and will be in due time, ease him back and get him going later rather than sooner.

I Doubt Daniher would be considered, more for match up reasons rather than form as we already have Pears and Hooker as key posts, played as a forward at times for Bendigo on the weekend and was not that crash hot, but did present well, I doubt Atkinson would be recalled, in another story, Knights is on record as saying "It's another good thing for our young players. We want to make Etihad Stadium a cauldron and really get our people and our supporters up and about with plenty of noise,"..."To play in front of a full house will be another great experience.

"For Tayte Pears and Cale Hooker and David Myers and Bachar Houli, it's just invaluable experience, and I've been really proud they haven't shied away from any contests in any of those games in front of a big crowd."

Just on the Prismall inclusion, the Bombers medical staff seem to be using Alwyn Davey's knee as a comparison as to where Prismall could be at, and stated that it took Davey a few weeks to get back into the swing of AFL football, so doubt he will come into the side this week.

Same thing applies to Reimers.

And yet Reimers is?
McPhee will play 100% believe me.
mcveigh 60min
reimers 60min
prismal 60min
laycock 60min

just because they've all played similar game time doesn't mean they're all in the same boat. Prismall is coming back from a knee injury ... far worse than what the other three are coming back from. Rehab is therefore longer, and building up strength on that knee (through reduced game time) takes longer as well.

reimers is definitely closer to selection than prismall.

he did his ankle during the match ... and played out the game which meant he's only aggravated the strain further.

The only place it has been assumed that he has an injury is on this board. He might have looked a bit sore on Saturday, but he has pulled up fine and will play.

Somebody has been watching Knighta's press conferences :thumbsu::cool:

I tend to disagree with yon on Daniher for the reason you think he may not be considered. Lovett-Murray has played as a defender in the last two weeks with the option of going forward if required. Darcy fits that bill perfectly and I also feel that Darcy would be a good match up on Geelong's mid sized forwards (e.g. Gamble or Lonergan if they play).

I would much rather McPhee go forward this week but we'll wait and see.

Reimers isn't playing this week. Knights has said he is playing another game or 2 in the VFL. Knights also said that McVeigh is 'in the mix' this week. That would make McVeigh infront of Reimers. (FWIW I think McVeigh should miss another week).

Reimers has played 60mins of AFL alll season. He is fit in terms of running ability but is not match fit. He is running parallel with Prismall at the moment I would say in terms of a comeback date. In terms of comebacks I see it:

Skipworth (0-1 week)
McVeigh (1-2)
Laycock (1-3)
Prismall (2-3)
Reimers (2-4)
Welsh (4-5)

Would Daniher or Atkinson be considered?

He just played his first full game of footy after a knee reco. Yes he's been in the best and thats great but it doesn't mean he's ready. A normal knee reco will see a guy miss about 48 weeks. For Pris that would see him back round 18. He's ahead of schedule but I think it'd be silly to play him this side of the split round.

They ain't gonna rush him back because they think he's going to have a blinder against his old team

McPhee injured? Got a source?

The quarter and a half he missed on Saturday night.

Are you being sarcastic !

Slattery best performances this season have been on small, crumbing forwards - I would hardly call Johston a small forward !

Posters accuse Slattery of being slow but I haven't seem him cut up by pace too often this year.

Why does Motlop kill us in the first half, and Ebert in the second?

Prissa's played three games for Bendigo now.

I just hope we go conservative with our changes.

If guys have a question mark, they shouldn't be played. We're not even half way into what is a long season, we've got to look at the big picture and ensure we've got guys up and running later in the year.

If that means we're a bit undermanned this week, so be it.

Just heard there could be some doubt over winderlich????

Yeah that was from Ian Cohen on Ch10. I wouldn't believe anything you see on Ch10 news.

The story was "Bombers Injury Crisis adds to Massive Injury List"

Some of the reports main points:

Winderlich is sore so might miss -

NO SHIT IAN ALL PLAYERS ARE SORE A COUPLE OF DAYS AFTER A GAME. HE DOES HAVE 5 DAYS UNTIL THE NEXT GAME! DID YOU MENTION HE ALSO HAS COME BACK FROM BACK SURGERY AND IS BEING CLOSELY MONITORED?

Dempsey won't play-

DID YOU LISTEN TO THE PRESS CONFERENCE? HE IS NOT A CERTAIN STARTER (implying until today he was) AND WILL BE GIVEN EVERY CHANCE

Hurley is a massive loss -

SO THE 5 WINS WERE WITH HIM IN THE SIDE?

Fletcher still two weeks away -

YEP HE PLAYED A BLINDER AGAINST THE HAWKS AND SAINTS

Laycock still a week away-

ANOTHER WHO HAS BEEN CRITICAL IN OUR 5 WINS

Seriously I've had it with D Grade Journo's making a story out of nothing just for the sake of reporting on the AFL. w***er. Meanwhile the Cats losses this week are only minor. I mean seriously nobody rates Cameron Stokes or Paul Chapman....

End Rant.

Yeah heard this on Channel 10 and I dont understand where its coming from.

He ran a few laps and didnt do much at training, so what. Half the list didnt participate in full training today. Didnt look to be favouring any part of his leg at all or limping.

He copped a very heavy knock on Saturday dont forget.

No it was from my Brother in law, But i dont belive a word he says either:D

OUT: Dempsey(inj), NLM(susp), T-Bell(omit)
IN: McVeigh, Prizza, Laycock

Skippy and McVeigh were tough to choose between, McVeigh just got the nod because if Hocking screws up on Ablett in the first half we can put Spike on him. Laycock was dominant for Bendigo, so he comes in for T-Bell, as Laycock offers more forward of the centre than T-Bell, and we can play Paddy and Jase 50/50 in the ruck and up forward, as they can both play there

I agree that CH10 report was pretty annoying.

They even had the nerve to say the ''the fast game plan is starting to take its toll''.....Yeah Mcveigh's ankle, Dempsey's ankle, Fletch's leg etc. are all to do with our game plan.:rolleyes:

I hate it when people try and find simple cause/effect relationships in football when everything is much more complex and detailed than that.

OUT: NLM (susp), Dempsey (inj)
IN: Daniher, Myers

Even with Knighter saying Spike and/or Skippy are good chances of coming in this week, i reckon a full game with Bendigo will be the wiser option.

Call me cynical but when Ch. 10 do that sort of thing -- i.e. rip to shreds a team's apparent chances in an upcoming game, wihtout much real evidence -- I can't help but notice that the (apparently bore of a) game in question is being televised on another channel...

Daffo, he hasn't catergorically ruled it out but then he hasn't exactly come out and said it is a strong possibility either. He has just said that he is going to be important in the second half of the year.

Prescott is also on record as saying they are pleased with what Bellchambers is providing in the ruck contests , so it seems unlikely that Le Coq will play this week.

In other news....(said with Craig Rowston voice)

What do you guys think the chances are on one Michael Quinn being a replacement for Dempsey if he doesn't get up?

It could be the sort of selection that sets the tone for the game for our team. I.e. attacking, no scars (or knowledged for that matter) of how good Geelong are etc.

I personally would prefer him to play before Nash and Atkinson.

The other option ofcourse is to bring in Myers and free up Houli, but I'm not sure how that fits in with Knighta's development of Bachar.

The club themselves have said Quinn is a long way off playing senior football. Also in a game where skill level is going to have to be at its absolute highest, why would you bring in someone who lacks the fundemental skills of an AFL footballer. No chance in hell.
