Changes vs WC

I thought he'd get off, there didn't seen to be any intent there, just 2 guys going for the one ball. Walkers' not the Waite type either so I'm sure those 70 points hanging over his head won't worry him. So the only certain out is Lucas at this stage? :(

Spot on LMBB I didn't think there was much in it either.

It was close to where we were sitting & it seemed that Walks actually slipped slightly due to that damn surface.

News on Lucas:
Not great. Preatty bad tear. Could be up to 5-6 weeks.

And after watching OTC, i spose you can add Warnock to the list of ins, and big Jacobs out. Good decision IMO given the wide expansions of Subiaco.

Bad news about Lucus. .. put him on ice still pre-season now, not worth risking again this year if its a 5-6wk injury. ..

I said it earlier and think Jacobs could use a rest, he has carried the ruck well up to this point. .. Having said that if he has a good week on the track, I'd play him. ..

Fisher is not the answer for the long option, I think the penny finally dropped in the 2nd half yesterday when they played Hampson out of the goal square, it straightened us up and we took a more direct and quicker approach to goal and he looked threatening. I was also impressed with a couple of efforts when the ball hit the ground as he fought feverishly to try and lock it in or win it back.

Fisher is no bigger then Henderson or Waite who cant even impact a contested pack mark situation. It really wont matter who plays deep if we dont get it there quicker, too many times we are looking to pinpoint Betts or Garlett on a lead to the boundary line and we disregard the most dangerous kick in footy because of it, which is to the hotspot 1 on 1 where the defenders really panick. We dont have the footskills to hit leading players in the pockets and when we do it is less then 33% chance to kick a goal.

I would continue to play Hampson deep and start these little guys on the boundary line so they have to run to a spot front and centre and let Hampson have a real run at a few pack marks and split a few of these defenders open who want to flood back, this would allow Betts, Garlett, Yarran and co to hit the ground level balls with momentum.

In order for this to succeed however we need 1 of 2 things to happen.

1- stop over using the ball off half back and through the middle of the ground by going sideways and trying to be too cute for our skill level.

2- replace the f--king idiots in the side who continually do this week in week out with kids who will follow instructions and play to a structure or gameplan.

If this approach was adopted it would resemble some sort of basic gameplan that is easy to follow, teach and drilled. If they cant follow a simple gameplan then have the balls and willingness to make the players accountable for this at the selection table, if you prefer to adopt a gameplan which is too difficult for our young group to follow then we really have to look at the coach. The gameplan needs to suit the cattle you have at your disposal!!!

I said it last week in the changes for Sydney thread ie play Hammo as a leading FF from goal square, so I definitely agree. But no one else seems to think we could play Jacobs and Warnock

Outs: Lucas, Carrazzo, Joseph, Robinson, Scotland

Ins: Ellard, Warnock, Davies, Fisher, Johnson

B: Russell Jamieson Walker
Hb: Bower Henderson Davies
C: Simpson Judd Johnson
HF: Garlett Waite Yarran
F: Betts Hampson Fisher
R: Warnock Murphy Gibbs
I: Jacobs Armfield Grigg Ellard

Lucas obviously gone,
Carrazzo and Robinson turn it over too much.
Joseph isn't a ball winner, he is a stopper at best, but has struggled big time in that role. In fairness he is young, give him another preseason to bulk up a bit so he can match it with the big boys.
Scotland far to unaccountable

Henderson to CHB is a must, i believe he showed something against the Bulldogs and there certainly isn't any harm in pushing him back there.
Hampson full time full forward, main role is hard lead and make sure he isn't out marked, must get ball to ground.
Fisher is marking option
Murphy, Gibbs and Judd to get winning the ball centre/centre of forward and kicking to forwards.
Russell the go to man across back line, while walker plays shut down role.
Bower is a half back, leave him there, he'l be ok.
Don't know much about Davies, but believe he has a big engine, solid skills and looks like a big kid, could play mixture of shut down/attach from half back. He needs a game or to, let him have a taste.
Yarran, Garlett and Betts to thrive on large ground, would want something out of them this week.
Give Warnock a run, can't see the harm in it, wasn't terrible when he did have a go early in the year.
Ellard deserves a run, even if he isn't up to it, at least he'll show some balls and put his head over it.

Key focus on next draft/trade period is key position forward and tough on baller, Chapman/Bartell style.

Jacobs is going to get eaten alive against Cox if he is less than 100%. Even if he is in perfect shape, it's going to be nasty. Cox is just too strong for any of our rucks except Krueze and too athletic for Jacobs.

WC will make a point of playing him for 90%+TOG and expect NicNat to play 80%. Neither of our rucks is fit enough to run with Cox all day. Henderson will probably spend a bit of time down back and on the wing trying to keep the resting one covered.

Henderson to CHB is a must,

Disagree with a couple of things.
I'd keep AJ in, he goes into the middle as a tagger (we still need one).
From all reports, Davies isn't quite up to AFL level yet (I haven't actually seen any Ants games, just going from the reviews I've seen/heard). Houlihan is a certainty to come in.

Henderson must be played at CHF. We would be better off putting Waite back.

Jacobs hasn't done much wrong all year but I think it's time to show some faith in Warnock and make him earn his big dollars.

Don't understand this at all. You play the best 22, period. Not those who are on bigger dollars to cover your arse.

If the MC deem that Warnock doesn't warrant a game, then he won't be picked. Simple.

I assume you mean "too fit for any of our rucks"? Jacobs is the strongest and biggest bodied of our ruckman. .. Its the reason he is the better tap ruck and better at pack marking. .. His fitness isn't too bad either, although I think he looks tired at the moment and needs some help. .. Hopefully he has a good run on the track this week and stays in the side. .. He played well last time, except Cox schooled him in the throw ins and NicNat mauled him unfairly and got away with it. .. but he shows he learns well and finished that game well. ..

Concerned about Judd. He has been flogged to death by our coaching staff and passenger midfield all season... I fear it may take its toll long term. This week I would throw him out on to a wing to get him out of the grind and allow him to use his pace... laying the challenge down to Murphy, Gibbs (if not dropped), Carrazzo and Co. in the middle of the ground to step up or step down.

We keep hearing from the players how we need to be bold, well it may well be time to be bold at the selection table also!

Playing the 3 ruckmen may make us top heavy but I dont think we would lose much by playing Hampson 100% of the game time up forward compared to doing this with someone like O'hailpin who has offered nothing the past 4 to 6 weeks.

Do you think that we could go in with just Warnock and Hampson this week considering Warnocks lack of match fitness on a big ground with 2 quality ruckmen as opponents and just swing Hampson in there briefly to give Warnock a spell on the bench???

The other concern is it would be hard to have Hampson play 100% game time combining ruck duties with forward duties and no time on the bench!!!

I definately think that Warnock will come in this week but I just hope it is not at Hampson expense, Jacobs has been good but I think they will take the easy option to give him a rest this week to give Warnock an opportunity back at Subi.

Hoping they play all 3 this week!!!

Forward line is the least of our problems, need more midfielders who can have an impact or have better skills then the current bunch and need more rotations so we can run both ways without fatigue being the issue as to why we dont!

If we don't make an example of one of the senior players this week, then if they dish up the crap they have the last two weeks, it is time to set an example.

There should be a blanket rule that win or lose, if you don't block for the ball carrier, create space or give to the player in a better position, you will be dropped.

If you refuse to run in both directions and support or backs and forwards, then you will be dropped. It does not matter if your name is Judd or Robinson.

If you make a mistake attempting to create run and carry, you will not be dropped for these efforts. (Think of Yarran last week, when a few team mates could have offered him some space or blocked his opponent off the ball)

Once you've set these guidelines in place, stick to them and watch the player group benefit.

Maybe two simple changes.

INS: Warnock, Houlihan
OUTS: Jacobs, Lucas - Jacobs getting a rest and Lucas due to injury.

one thing i'm wary of is the 'need for dash' vs. swinging the axe. you can only drop so many of our half-back types before we become pretty limp. most of them have had good games at various times during the year, problem is getting them all to turn it on in the same game.

hadley is becoming another bannister. able type, but either not fit or not picked. any chance this week with all the talk of inside ball, no blocking, bla bla bla?

would not be surprised if ironically, players being given run-with roles is also the cause of lazy football. carrazzo comes to mind. you want to tie down another player you can get tied to them instead.

My team for Subi would be:

Army Jamo JR
Bower Aussie Walker
Johnson Hadley Gibbs
Hoops Hendo Simmo
Jeff Waite Eddie

Sauce Judd Murph

Hammer (leave him in the ruck this game to negate Nicnat's leap) Carrots Scotty Yazza

Johnson: Two bests for the Bullants since returning and was playing well prior to injury.

Austin: To provide a big body down back.(On the assumption he's fit enough) TBH don't care about his form to date as the form of so many of the seniors is off the mark at the moment I would expect him to come in for his first game of the year and at least provide a contest and give it a red hot go.

Out: Jacobs (rest), Gartlett, Lucas(inj), Joseph,

In: Warnock, Fisher, Ellard, Houlihan, Wiggins,

Walker: Jamison: Russel
Bower: Waite: Scotland

Simpson: Gibbs: Grigg

Yarran: Henderson: Murphy
Betts: Fisher: Houlihan

Hampson: Judd: Ellard

Int: Warnock: Robinson: Wiggins: Carrots

I cant work out who is missing to be dropped but there must be someone?

Ins:Ellard, Warnock & Houlihan (if fit)

Outs:Lucas (inj), Jacobs, Robinson (depends on houlihan)
