Toast Charlie Dixon Retires

The supporter base doesn't look upon Dixon's last 2 years favourably like it did with Schulz who probably deserved an extra year but didn't get it.

Schulz seemed more committed to his football and put his body on the line during the bad years and was technically a brilliant set shot that he could teach others.

Dixon not making the call whilst working on his side hustles doesn't sit well with me for whatever reason.

As an aside, I remember one of those "Inside Port Adelaide" doco things showing Schulzy's speech to the playing group announcing his retirement in 2016.

Chris Davies sat there texting through the entire speech.

From memory the club baulked and gave him a 1-year deal off the back of a 44 goal season at age 30. He initially was looking to get a deal with Freo but remained in my view loyal.

Ironically Dixon was traded in and considered the number key forward target thereout.

Dixon has inked more deals, probably gone on 2 years longer than deserved whilst approaching his mid 30s.

Just think the club operates as a boys club, Schulz could've been a decent forwards coach, clearly focuses on technique and accuracy. Dixon hangs around partly because he keeps close with the coach.

Just got word, Dixon retirement imminent, Boak leaning towards retirement to. Hartletts position as SANFL coach being reviewed, same as Chad as forwards coach. Soldo out the door, we will accept anything from 25-40. Sam Day being looked at as a an experienced delisted free agent, club backing Lord to come good though and Day more SANFL

Can't really blame supporters who spend a lot of money following the club, only to be told their opinions are worth two cents, for wanting to drive the final nail into the bloke's coffin and have the final say I guess.
Yeah maybe but then again I respect someone that supported his colleague (in his eyes) despite mass criticism from us.

Even though I agreed with the intent of the criticism that he was defending Ken against.

In Charlies eyes I'd assume he'd see it as standing up for a victim being treated unfairly

The way Hinkley has pushed a clearly cooked Dixon out over the last 2 seasons is just more of the same with his treatment.

"Hey Charlie, come to Port so I can park you under hospital balls 20 times a game for 9 years and when that gameplan has destroyed your body, we'll force you back out onto the park so that not only will we finish off your body, we'll also destroy your reputation."

Dixon is a dumb campaigner for having a crack at the fans and probably a dumb campaigner generally, but he was a warrior for us and the role he was asked to play for 9 seasons was some absolute bullshit. If he'd stayed at Gold Coast or gone to another club, he's probably be sitting pretty with about 200 extra career goals, a fanbase who absolutely love him as a cult hero, and he probably doesn't wince when he gets up off the couch.

Dixon had the career he wanted. He wanted to follow daddy donuts to Port. He wanted his expectations to drop to simply having to compete and bring it to ground. He wanted to stand flat footed under a footy 90% of the time.

Then, in his twilight years, also being used more often as a ruck, to really push everything over the edge.

Both these quotes are true.

Dixon's career was a waste of his talent, but he has been complicit in that talent being wasted.

The birthday post on the clubs Facebook is like 99% women being complimentary in the comments.

I don't mean to cast aspersions about particular demographics, but...
