"If they (GWS) go after Scott Pendlebury, I will declare war on Greater Western Sydney and I will set up a tent embassy outside their tumbleweed-blown ground up there in Greater Western Sydney,'' McGuire said on Triple M.

"I will go feral. I will make it my life's ambition to destroy them and run them into the ground.

"As long as they know ... this is not Melbourne where you can just walk in and steal the players. If you do this at Collingwood, good luck.''

Isn't this guy the face of the new Fox Footy channel? I'm obviously not expecting him to stay silent on such matters, but surely we aren't going to have to put of with his bias bullshit on television next year.

Those comments on GWS are low and uncalled for. We are meant to be expanding the game Eddie, not isolating it around the Westpac centre.

wtf?

Gubby: What about we target Pendlebury?

Sheedy: But Eddie will pitch a tent and 'go feral'.

Gubby: Yeah, geez, that would be just... no way. OK, so how about Goddard instead?

Eddie needs to get a grip. Ultimately this is about Pendlebury and what he wants to do, not Collingwood or GWS.

It's within the rules the AFL have created and Pendelbury has left his options open.

Eddie and the Pies and anyone else who gives a toss have every right to be unhappy if it goes that way but carrying on like an over emotional pimpley faced juvenile is just silly.

I now really want Pendlebury to go just to see Eddie's reaction.

Pretty pathetic comments really. It's one thing defending your players and saying we'll do absolutely everything to make sure they stay. It's another thing to declare a personal vendetta against another AFL club, and by doing so effectively the AFL as a whole. If Eddie went down that path he would soon realise Collingwood needs the AFL more than the AFL needs Collingwood.

The language McGuire uses is pretty low and insulting. The way he describes GWS and then takes a cheap jab at Melbourne will win him no friends.

This 'siege mentality' that Collingwood seems to be putting themselves into will not work. Look at St.Kilda this year.

This 'us vs them' is a high risk strategy.

I think he was trying to tie that speech about pitching up a tent, to the story that they were also talking about at the same time about how the 'occupy Melbourne' protestors tents were being forcibly taken down that morning.

But I dont think he thought it through and anyone not listening to the 'entire' show and listening to his tone, could easily take that out of context and miscontrue his words (as it typically always does in the media circles...)

he's just getting in early as re-signing pendles will be a big collingwood story next year, along with bucks coaching.

Comical.

The guy literally has one eye.

Hope Pendlebury goes, expansion teams deserve a fair go, Fremantle are still feeling it after 95.

He's Collingwood's president. Just because he's more well known than most other presidents, and on a few tv shows (footy and non-footy), I don't understand why people are surprised by these reactions.

It's not meant to be a love in, it's all about beating all the other clubs in the competition. Which is exactly he reason that I wouldn't expect any supporters of other clubs to say anything other than "I hope he goes!".

As an aside, Fremantle has no relevance to this. Their current list/recent performance would have very little to do with when they were established. I wont get distracted by saying anything more about Freo (or Richmond!).

Very poor IMO, utter garbage.

As much as I hate the expansion teams poaching young talent off clubs, to launch something like that at GWS, basically saying Collingwood is above other clubs and that you're not to touch our players is complete BS.

Hope pendles leaves now just to put Eddie in his place. Can't imagine Pendlebury himself would be overly pleased with comments like that by his president.

God help us if we have to put up with this bias crap from Eddie all next season

Declaring war, and saying he's going to target their players at every opportunity....

I remembering that happening ~30 years back, Richmond and Collingwood went to 'war' in a similar way (without the salary cap). By the time it was over, Richmond was almost dead, Collingwood was on their knees, and the collateral damage led the VFL clubs to form the commision to save themselves from themselves.

Considering GWS is backed by the AFL, I don't like Collingwoods chances if it came to that (although the salary cap will probably make a bit it of a phoney war).

His comments about declaring war on GWS are clearly tongue in cheek. The Eddie haters need to get a grip and a sense of humour while they're at it.

I wonder what Melbourne thinks about his comments.

If they're smart they wont even acknowledge it. Eddie's posturing over Malthouse the last couple of years amounted to nothing and I'd suggest these lastest comments will have no bearing on whether Pendelbury stays or goes.

I find it funny that he's publically attacked GWS when he really should be pulling Pendles aside and talking about things like loyalty, opportunity, facilities etc if he's worried he'll go.

The hate is justified. Tounge in cheek? come off it, the comments sounded pretty serious and aggressive to me, as I'm sure many other people believe ...
