What should the penalty be?

Which is my point.

If there is no admission that the doctor was influenced by the needs of the team to win the game, then an independent doctor is equally as likely to make such a mistake as the club doctor.
Independent Dr has no conflict of interest. If a mistake is made, it won't be seen as gaming the rules.

In this case, Jones had the following signs where were caught on the vision:
Loss of consciousness, No protective action on fall to ground, tonic posturing, dazed, blank/vacant stare. Any of these form a basis of clear diagnosis of concussion with no return to play. Being subbed out with the reason "migraine" instead of concussion is irregular. There is no reason not to just say concussion, unless you are hoping to play him the next week. It raises all sorts of questions. Passing a scat5 doesn't clear him of concussion, he has to follow the 12 day return to play flow chart.

Allir has 2 of the signs, clear as day on replay. There was no "I'm not sure" about it.
If there was any misinterpretation on the video, he needed to be taken into the rooms for a scat5, he had a head knock. Sending him back out cannot have been a simple "I forgot how the protocol works".

It is a reasonable supposition that they were skirting the rules.

Quite an intriguing game

Geelong wobbling too
Ports younger mids starting to tire..if so their journeyman defence is going to be under all sorts of pressure in the coming games?. To think we tossed them with a few key players out, then port have a red hot GWS in Adelaide the week after...could be 5 straight losses in a row

Absolutely.

There’s just no way an experienced medical professional, who understands and is following the AFL’s concussion protocols, watches that vision and comes to the decision that Allir was safe to return to the field.
I do think the Port doctor did a quick assessment and did show some duty of care in relation to not allowing Jones to take further part, and also the fact sending back Aliir to play, and he didn’t show any obvious ill-effects when playing on.

The main issue really was that a formal HIA and the 20 minutes off was the mandatory AFL concussion protocol, which wasn’t being adhered to. The issue regarding Aliir isn’t so much Aliir coming back on, but he came back on too quick without the formal HIA.

Delicious

No because there has been no admission that the doctor considered any other factors apart from the well being of the player.
Of course there has been no admission. They're not stupid enough to admit there were other influences.

The club doctor had skin in the game, and its glaringly obvious.

This is why the AFL should insist on implementing independent doctors for situations like this where there are supposedly strict protocols in place.

If a doctor is biased, do you think the doctor would admit to having bias? Likewise, umpires or whoever else with bias?

I’m not saying the bias was intentional by the way, it may well be subconscious. However, it’s fair to say we see biases all the time in sports.
I would just like that acknowledged rather than the records stating that this was merely a "mistake"

Either they didn't understand the protocol, which is a breech of protocol, or they were gaming the system.

Would you expect them to come out and say, "we were gaming the system"? That amounts to cheating and gross misconduct. Both Port and the AFL would rather a "mistake".

There’s no possible way this can be seen as “not understanding the protocol” or a “mistake” after a 2016 fine and suspended fine and subsequent please explains from the AFL regarding their handling of head knocks.
It’s either a deliberate disregard of the protocol or gross negligence, both deserve severe penalties and the removal of their doctor and replaced with an AFL doctor at their cost.

No. Its as simple as the doctor simply not following the mandated protocol as he has been caught not following before. Its not about whether the players had concussion or not, uts the non following of the black and white rules and concussion just happened to be the outcome
But why didn't he follow the mandated protocols?

Is he just a bit dumb?

Or did he not like the outcome?

That is the key question. On 5aa last night, Rowie and Ginever, with Caro, were saying whats left to consider. All facts are on the table.

But they're wrong. The key question has yet to have been raised or answered. That question is: why?

Hinkley, re the club doctor - "you know what? He's got a lot of runs on the board"

...You're darned right he's got form Kenny.

Reporters love to think they're top shit, but not one of them has the balls to pipe up when AFL personalities peddle bullshit like this.

"Lots of runs on the board."

"He has made this 'mistake' twice before, is that what you're referring to?"

Would be fantastic if the AFL announce a six-figure fine today and Koch also announces Ken's new contract a few minutes afterwards. Hiroshima and Nagasaki for the teal scum

I think that it should be viewed in its simplest form like any law, its there to be followed. Port have now not followed it on multiple occasions so they need to cop a reasonably big penalty as a fine failed to deter them last time

This. I don't see how "Euerhr the doctor made a mistake" is seen as an acceptable alternative. This is a situation where they should always be erring on the side of caution. This isn't the same sort of mistake as having a ping at goal when you have a forward 15m in the clear. This is somebody's livelihood. Every one of the 50,000 in attendance, and nearly all of us at home, would have done a proper test of both players.

If the doctor's "mistake" was that he didn't know the protocol, then he is not fit to be in charge of elite sportsmen. The protocol is one of the most important things they need to be aware of as club doctors. As they say in law, ignorance is not an excuse.

$100,000, $50,000 in the soft cap.

Weak
Absolute joke.

Message officially sent to finals clubs. The cost of potentially winning a final has been set $50,000.

Are they? Looked pretty good on Saturday night.

Butters and Rozee looked good in space, but they looked tired and even a little bit tentative when the contested ball was there to be won.

This isn't in itself surprising when you've got a light, young frame and it's the middle of winter.

Somewhat surprised that Wines isn't being put in the guts more and one of those two rotated out to his wing.
