How is Alonso still happening?
who knew that mistake-prone left backs continue to make mistakes? even if chilwell isn't fit, would far rather have Azpi out there over Alonso

Good fightback but should not be conceding 3 in the first 25 minutes to a Championship-quality side. Until Chilwell is fit, Azpi needs to start. We cannot expect to finish top 4 if Alonso continues to start.
His header just made no sense whatsoever.

If he heads towards Werner, then Werner is in a ton of space???
Instead he heads inside where the nearest player was a West Brom player.

And then losing his man on the set piece, just shambolic.

Chelsea have drawn Sevilla, FC Krasnodar and Rennes in group E of the UCL. The game against Rennes is big as it'll be a reunion with Mendy's former club should he play. Decent looking group, having to travel to Russia isn't brilliant but certainly could be harder

We got kissed on the d with this draw. We normally have a very tough group. No excuses to not finishing top of the group.

I was a little sceptical of Chilwell like all of us were but if he keeps putting out games like that, 50m is well worth it.

**** me I've never seen such shambolic defending by a Chelsea team and the most concerning thing is that it seems to be getting even worse. Total loss of confidence and communication back there.

Really ruined what should have been a fine win lead by Werner and Havertz.

I'm not so sure about Zouma playing sweeper (you'd think Silva would be better suited to that position), but defensively we are so much more assured with Silva and Mendy in the backline.

Compared to Kepa, Mendy is stronger, better in the air and at positioning himself and has a surer pair of hands, which means that teams are not likely to try their luck against us so much WRT set pieces and long shots.

I'm not so sure about his passing yet (although his Ligue 1 stats were good) and he is apparently less of a sweeper-keeper than Kepa, which means that he'll stay on his line more.

Our offence for the past two games has been toothless, though. Hopefully it's just because the offence are learning to work together rather than because Frank doesn't know how to balance attack and defence properly.

The Athletic posted a really good article on the defence and Silva's influence in particular. Apparently it extends beyond the pitch and even though he doesn't speak English he just has an infectious personality and will chat to younger players and staff etc regularly.

Very happy with picking him up.

The Guardian football weekly board really hate Frank Lampard. Every time there's a half decent performance from him they compare Frank to other managers and if there's a loss they just absolutely slate him

Oh boy, was looking forward to listening this morning. Is it going to make me melt?

They just refuse to take any positives out of the 4-0 while praising Ole for pretty much half the pod. Then Barry goes on a sarcastic rant about how he's overpraised.

So yeah expect to melt a little
