This morning proved how important Pulisic and Ziyech are to our side. When teams set up defensively, we have no creativity to try and break them down. It doesn't help that Mendy needlessly came off his line again. He needs to have more faith in our CBs rather than panicking and trying to deal with it himself and coming unstuck. We've only scored against one side in the top half (Southampton) and it's starting to become a concern, although injuries/COVID haven't helped.

I honestly thought we were past such average performances where we couldn't even break down Everton.

Not challenging at all for the title if this is the standard. We are starting to have a flat track bully feel about us too given we haven't scored against any top 4 side either.

For all the gnashing of teeth in the media about how poor Man Utd have been this season, they will still jump ahead of us if they win their game in hand.

Champions League aside; I’ve been pretty underwhelmed with our EPL season to date and some of our acquisitions and think we’re being pretty let off accordingly by the media because they’ve been focussed on Man Utd for whatever reason and Arsenal.

The difference is that United have genuinely looked awful against bad sides but have been able to pick up wins still. How sustainable that is, we'll see.

We haven't. Even in games against top 6 or top 10, Liverpool aside, we haven't really been comprehensively outplayed.

Athletico Madrid... Should expect it to be very tough, but we've shown we've got the quality. Should be a great couple of games!

When does the heat come on Frank a little bit? All well and good to look like a billion dollars against relegation fodder, but look completely void of ideas against any semblance of quality. Can't even get it done against Wolves and Everton let alone any top 4 side despite splashing all that cash.

When does the heat come on Frank a little bit?
Surely now.

The squad is clearly misfiring and struggling to score and that is on Frank. He brought in the players he wanted and offensively, they all struggle or go missing in games against decent opponents.

Depending how results go and with catch up games, Chelsea could fall to 9th. That is abysmal and surely will not stand with the warchest afforded to Frank and we are probably doing worse than last season.

I'm also questioning Mendy. He's goalkeeping the past few games is poor and is costing us and worst still, if you watch when he is facing a penalty, he rarely dives or comes close to saving anything. Willy Caballero has Mendy covered hands down in penalty's and that is an indictment on Mendy given he is now our first choice goalie.

What did he do today that was poor?

Also think it's pretty unfair to be basing how good a keeper is based on how good he is at saving pens.

His error against Everton and I thought his efforts were quite poor with the goals we conceded this morning, particularly the first one.

On Havertz, I just don't see anything that fills me with confidence. Werner and Ziyech have shown some very good glimpses but that is all it is.

With West Ham, Arsenal, Villa and City to come :grimacing:. West Ham are our bogey side as it is let alone their form this season and Villa have been very good away from home. Never thought I'd say Arsenal would be the easiest one in that lot.

Man this is sooo negative after two losses.

Mendy's error against Everton and the miscommunication with Zouma for Leeds' goal granted.
But he was not saving Wolves' first today. He got a fingertip to it after it took a deflection of James. Could've been positioned a bit better perhaps, but I don't think there was much he could do. Much more blame should go to both Chilwell and James for getting duked so easily.

Speaking of, James was awful today. Haven't seen it said much, but he was.
Watching the second goal, he is completely in no man's land and incredibly flat footed until Neto already has the ball.

With Havertz, he's clearly not adjusted to the speed of the league yet.
Don't think he should be starting above Kovacic, but the only way he gets better is game time in his preferred position.

Which brings me to...

Need to start playing him where he belongs

This is almost out of necessity unless we play 3-5-2 until Ziyech and Puli are fit at the same time which has happened for... 20 minutes away at Krasnodar?
Mendy
Azpi - Silva - Zouma
James - Havertz/Kovacic - Kante - Mount - Chilwell
Giroud/Tammy - Werner

I think Tammy needs to play ahead of Giroud. The latter is a better finisher but Tammy is far better at being involved in the build-up play, plus we seem way too intent to cross it onto Giroud's head.

We also need to buy a new winger next month. Ziyech and Pulisic are injury-prone and playing Werner and Havertz there is detrimental to the team.

Yeah if we persist with 4-3-3.

Massive danger game against West Ham coming up. I am really hoping it is a statement game because the club is flailing at the moment in 8th spot and the likes of Man Utd and Liverpool and Leicester to a lesser extent are gathering momentum and really putting sides away.

For all the money we've spent, you'd have to imagine the club's hierarchy would be getting particularly antsy because there doesn't seem to be a lot of care factor coming from the players.

Terrible performance by us and there were absolutely no excuses for it.

Pulisic by far our best but man does Werner look devoid of all confidence.

Don't understand why Giroud wasn't subbed on second half when we hadn't had a shot on target and all.our attacks were coming from crosses. Not sure what Frank was expecting by putting Havertz on instead.

Also with Joringho now missing pens I really don't know what point of difference he adds to the team. I hope we can cash in while he still has value.

Aside from Werner needing to actually have a rest, we are so not using his strengths.

Feed him the ball early into a bit of space and let his pace do the work.

This endless crossing isn't going to work for anyone.

On top of that, everything just went Arsenal's way. Pen wasn't there ( do understand why the ref gave it but surely VAR tells him to have a look), free kick which you'd expect maybe a quarter of the time and a scuffed cross hitting the post and going in. Leno guessing correctly on the pen as well.
