Wow.
Did we lose?
Unbelievable.
That last quarter was just strange.
Saints players everywhere, doggies must have been flooding the back line as we never seemed to get the ball. Or we were just slow.
I have no idea who gets ditched against the Dees.
Have a big game Big Will
Williams 50 metre penalty was a disgrace.

Good call, hardly Williams fault there....

Also its not choking when 2 of the goals come from contests.

What walking accross the mark in the 2nd qrt ?

Fumbling the ball for a turn over and goal ?

Fair dinkum if he keeps his place in the side next week he must be paying someone off

By the way, there's no point singling out Gia's missed goal. Cause there were at least 10 abysmal mistakes that cost us dearly.

How about Hall's facetap. WTF was that? And that keystone cops routine between Hahn and Williams that cost a goal in the 4th?

And in my opinion worst of all - WTF WAS FISHER DOING ALONE 40 M OUT FROM GOAL WITH 3 MINUTES TO GO???? He was at least 5 m from any other player.

And that's ignoring the endless fumbling, reflex handpasses after marks to covered men, and missed opportunities at goal.

At times tonight it looked like we were trying to lose.

OK - I'll leave it there. Apologies, but I am flipping out here thinking about how likely that is to cost us 4th at the end of the year.

Once again, right on the mark, Kennel.

Dare I say it, I think I just saw evidence as to why we will not be good enough once again this season. And it hurts.

I am so dissapointed, I could many things regarding the players specially those that went missing in the final quarter but I think the real culpable for tonigh is the coach.

How can Eade let a game like this go, why didn't we go long to our tall targets?

All other teams kick long when the games get difficult but Eade had our players spotting targets in a flodded forward line. How many times in the past we have lost games due to a last contested mark to the opposition?

Why didn't we kick from fifty?

...

I can't stand picking this game apart any more. There is nothing from which we can draw solace, harsh though that reality is.

13 contested marks to our 7. Go back to "the game" that supposedly gave us inspiration - last year's Prelim. Take Riewoldt out, add Hall to ours, and shouldn't that just about tip the scales in our favour?

Oh no, we didn't count on good, old fashioned panic & incompetence when it matters.

Proud of the boys - i thought the effort was fantastic. Some Dogs fans need some perspective. Remember that there's 2 teams out there - at times the saints forced us to play a certain way (that's what opponents do!!)

...and to all the dogs fans that sit there moaning the whole game - get a grip. I don't mind fans moaning if they also encourage, but we have too many people who are all too happy complain and do nothing else... bit like this forum sometimes!!!

That one, watch it again.

If anyone watching that game doesn't actually think we're close to a flag then they're kidding themselves. For the players to stick it out for so long in a game plan not suited to us at all (and yes Eade allowed the game to be played on St Kilda's terms but can you blame him when it worked for 95% of the night) was a quality effort. While I'm angry we lost and didn't chose a few smarter options in the last I'm certainly not throwing the towel in.

Mate, pull your head in, for heaven's sake! I personally blame Dennis Commetti for jinxing Granty by comparing him to the great man while he was lining up for goal(lol). We were 3/3 this time last year, the Saints got lucky, that's all. Enjpy the rest of the season.

Cheers!

We will never are going to win or even to get to a final if we don't play to win the games until the final siren and stop and rest/celebrate before the game is won.

Eade needs to have a good look at the way he is coaching our guys and the pressure he puts on them to finish the games strongly.

Although there's always a problem with out team sometimes we start to slow and get too far behind in the first quarter, other times we get tired to soon and get run over in the third or fourth quarter, I can't remember the last time I saw a game when the team had a strong four quarter win.

Frustration, dissapointment, sadness and fury are mixed feeling us Bulldogs supported are too used to suffer and unfortunately we are going through it again. Not to mention the sense embarrassment we experience everytime we get proven to be not good enough.

Once again all those expectations goes down the drain and it will be another year of almost but not quite.

I ask myself, was it the right thing to become a bulldog supporter many years ago? Will ge ever see in our lifetimes our team win another flag, at times like this I lose all hope.

Now I'll have a drink and I'll continue wandering offline about the meaning of life as a bulldog supporter.
I tend to agree. If the year ends dismally without a flag and it looks like it will, then we need a new approach from a new coach, because we do have a very good list of individual players and a very good list of emerging young players. This is Eade's sixth season and they have failed to play in a Grand Final and they still choke when it matters.
I know it's a risk to go for a new coach. He might be worse, but I am very confident at this point, that we can't win a flag under the present coach and game plan.
I guess we'll see what happens at the end of the year and I really hope I'm very very wrong, but tonight's game annoyed me intensely.
We are a very good side at times, but not a premiership side.
Two and a bit goals up well into the last quarter in a low-scoring game and not winning, does not say much for our resilience under pressure or the game plan of kicking short to spotted targets. Reminds me a little bit of the last quarter of the 1997 Preliminary Final.

Mate! Those bastards got lucky, simple as that. It was one of the best high-pressure games that I have ever seen. We had the same win/loss tally this tim e last year, and it only gets better.

In hindsight, I di think we were toying with them at times during the game. Maybe that's why Rocket gave them a spray at 3 quarter time?

Cheers

Aaaahhh... the mist clears, and suddenly there is light and rational forward-thinking.

I don't think so. Be as positive as you like Garfdog, or face the cold, hard facts and do something about it. As an earlier contributor mentioned, we have accepted mediocrity for so long it has become culture.

95% of a game is not good enough either. In case you need reminding, the team which is in front when the final bell rings is the winner, and the winner takes all.

Game plan not suited to us??? How about we put everything on hold until we can be assured that a game will be played that suits our style? Then I might consider we could be close to a flag.

"Choosing a few smarter options" should not be brushed aside as you have done, Doggies08. It is an inherent problem which stands in the way of this football club achieving anything substantial in the current era.

At 3-3 I wouldn't be so concerned, except we still haven't played Geelong, or Sydney the way they're going. We have no right to expect we will recover completely from a start like that.

Of course we can blame Rodney Eade for allowing the game to played on St. kilda's terms. Here we are playing a side that blind freddy can tell you that will struggle to kick goals(St. Kilda) versus a side that has been the highest scoring side in the competition for the last 2 years (bulldogs) and yet he allows the game to be played as a tight low scoring struggle. This is nothing short of a disgrace and the coaching staff need to have a good hard look in the mirror.

WTF was Eade thinking? Our gameplan tonight was absolute rubbish. I wouldn't blame the players for that. Gilbee and Harbrow were outstanding. I cannot see the logic of attempting to maintain possesion, waiting until we turn it over, in favour of quick ball movement into a forward line which has players capable of taking a grab. Atleast they would have a chance of scoring if the ball was in the bloody forward 50. Stupid stupid fools deserve to lose that one, and im blaming the coach.

You cant expect the bullies to win the flag or even be considered a real contender with the amount of mistakes and crap that goes on.. The dogs are becomming the masters of snatching defeat from the jaws of victory. The game was absolutely disgracefull in all aspects.

The usual spin doctors will come out and say the dogs are 3-3, same as last year, blah blah blah..

Is it just me or it seems that when we have teams on the ropes, we just can't put them away. It happened against Brisbane and it happened against St. Kilda tonight.

Geelong being in the same position would have gone straight for the jugular.

It just seems that there are players in our team who when the chips are down just go missing, it's not exactly the easiest thing to recruit for but hardness/attitude/winning meantatily is the MOST important thing to me.

Yes choked again, that game was so dam frustrating to watch, it was obvious the saints were going to steal it, we absolutely handed it to them on a platter. Why don't we ever put teams away, we give up too many goals from stupid errors, and when the game is in the balance and we need a goal you can guarantee we will miss, just like last years PF.

agree, shit game plan. why would you have so many players forward of the football in the last 8 mins. if coached correctly, we should have pushed everyone behind the football to limit the amounts of scoring chances. 3 goals up late in the last quarter and were looking for more goals.......wtf......... have a good look at how much space they had inside 50 on the counter attack. madness, just madness, push them all back behind the ball and we win, simple.
