Chris Dawes Future?

If MM doesnt give this guy a chance this season, do not be suprised if he is looked at by goldcoast, and he would sign in no time if he doesn't get a chance at pie land this season.
That would be shattering because i rate this guy HIGHLY. :thumbsu:

I will put it out there now, Who thinks Chis Bryan would have given us more at FF than Leroy and Jack this year so far????
Bryan was really good at VFL level last year and actually kicked goals.
I was never a fan and its all hindsight now but id be willing to put money on him being more useful up front than the previous two have given to the team in terms of goals kicked so far?

Bryan could've been an alright KF but MM never had the balls to try it

I think he deserves an opportunity this year (4-5 games in a row) and if he does not get that opportunity, Collingwood only have themselves to blame when he wants to be traded.

Definitely need to give him ago and i agree minimum 5 weeks couldn't do any worse.
After 4 goals last week we need to have a target down the forward line.

This.

If we dont play him, we'll lose him.

Dropping Anthony and not replacing him with a key forward last week (ie Dawes) was a disgrace.

Based on exposure at AFL level.

Sure, Rus hasn't played in 18 months.
So you're making this statement based on potential, and history. I suppose there is a rationale there, but I'm not sure that puts Rusling "ahead" of Dawes in any meaningful way. I would imagine that if the coaching and development staff thought Rusling was "ahead" of Dawes and JA, they'd actually be developing him as a forward. Seems to me that they think he's quite a bit behind, and therefore his best chance of breaking into the team is as a full back. I hope he absolutely tears it up in any case.

Oh, and for those that continue this nonsense about "Jack not deserving a spot in the team this week ahead of Dawes", that's just a crock.

No other young key position forward in the league (Buddy and Roughy excluded and probably Cloke too) has done more than Jack. He is best 18 let alone best 22. Match committee learnt this lesson after last week's debacle in front of the sticks.
I think they're making that assessment based on form, in which case it's quite logical. Obviously form is not the only basis on which to select a team, however.

I just can't see us giving him the 4-5 games to see what he's got. We're a finals contending team so we're looking to play our best team every week rather than building a side. I think it would be in the clubs interest to give him that time, but can't see MM or the match committee doing it.

Well I would rather him up Forward then Leroy and We don't have much else

I think that is all Dawes needs! To be given at least 3 games in a row to show what he has got. He would grow in confidence and improve each week. You only have to look at when he made his debut late in the year against the Saints, then played a few more, confidence was up and he played really well in the final against Adelaide. Will be interesting as I recall after Round 1 Malthouse said that Leigh Brown needs to keep performing as he is keeping out blokes like Dawes. For the record Leigh Brown has been non existent the past 2 weeks.

If Dawes can impose himself, tackle hard, bump, go through packs etc I don't see why u wouldn't take brown out for him. Really that's the only reason browns in ahead of him.

I think it was 7 against Essendon.

The other game where he really stood out to me was once against the Roos.

Considering his size and experience though, you don't expect him to be dominating games. He just isn't a dominant forward.

I'm not a big Chris Dawes believer by any stretch but I think now is the right time to see what he has to offer. His form in the twos has been good and he seems to have improved some of the deficiencies in his game. With Cloke and Anthony in poor form, Rus still being used in defense and also poor form from Fraser and Brown I just think it would be a missed opportunity not to play him. Keep Ant in the twos until he regains touch, drop Brown this week as he doesn't really have a match up and use Dawes forward. It would be good to see him get a run of games to find his feet too.

I dont know what the hell Mick sees and Leigh Brown to have him in the side over Dawes. People on here have been saying in the last two weeks that Leigh Brown is important to our team because he is chasing and tackling but after watching Chris Dawes when he kick 7 two weeks ago and watching him last week i think he is way ahead of L.Brown. His forward preasure is outstanding and he can kick GOALS.

I think we need to go bigger in our forward line this week as Hawthorn lacks any key backs especially with Gibson going down. So Dawes should definitely be in line for a call up.

I can see Dawes leaving at the end of the year :( he just simply doesn't get a fair go while Mick is coach.Mick has his favourites and will never drop them (Cloke, Fraser and Leigh Brown) Would love to see how he'd go under Bucks as coach.

add obree, toovey and lockeyer to the list

I know this is very early and very premature but would there but would it be worth a word in Q.Lynch's ear from West Coast?

I think Dawes is good enough but if the club doesnt show faith in him to win we need a good player of this size up foward

IMO one word NO!!!

I think he still has a future here at Collingwood, I hear that he's been good in the VFL and I think he deserves a chance here to play at AFL level. I wouldn't write him off just yet.

Simply put: he needs time to develop in the AFL. He needs to be involved in consequtive games, like Wellingham has, to be able to develop. Keeping him in the VFL won't get him anywhere.
