He has been a great servant of the club and you hate to see him go out with this sort of ending, but is it time he said enough is enough and ended his career? I mean even if he is able to recover from this injury, I'm not even sure there is a place in the team for him anymore. I guess we don't know what is going to happen injury wise, he may be required later in the year, but my arguement would be that him retiring gives the chance to elevate the next Jason Roe or Colm Begley. You'd just hate for such a stalwart of the club to do all the hard work to get back only for him to suffer the indignity of not being able to get a game.

Chris Scott is the definition of a clubman.

If he thought for a second he didn't have a chance to give the club any value this year and that he was holding another young fella back, he'd walk.

We have no need to elevate another rookie at this stage, what would be the point?

After his loyalty over the years, he deserves every chance to get himself right.

I personally would love to see Scotty play another few games. I mean he's worked so hard to get back into shape, to give up now would be heartbreaking.

That said, surely only a few weeks remain before we see him return. I hope he comes back and cripples some more cry babies :D

I must admit I'm not sure if Chris is still up to it. In his most recent games (sometime ago now) I think he's looked a bit lost at times and maybe the game has gone past him.
But having said that, if he can get himself fit and healthy (which will be a feat in itself considering what his body has been through), I'd love to see him back out there and hopefully finish his career off on a good note, rather than injury forcing him to fade into obscurity. He certainly deserves another crack, considering his tremendous service to the club.

The only reason Chris should retire is if there's no possibility of his returning to footy to be able to contribute in a reasonably meaningful way. I think it is correct that he would unlikely to force his way into our current best 22 but players will get injured and others will lose form. Chris, if fit, would be a logical back-up for Johnno or Patfull as forwards or Bushy as a defender. Later in the season, we might well be thankful for a hard and experienced player to come in as our youngsters feel the pinch.

Spot on. We have Drummond, Mills and Lappin pushing for selection and Clark, JMac and Selwood coming online shortly. On top of that we've got 6 prized fish caught from the SoooOOOOOOper DRAAAAAAAFT! that can't get near a game.

Exactly what would we gain by frog-marching Nugget out of to his car?

Spot on, I think he can still add some value to the backline and help the young guys back there develop. I hope he gets back and able to retire on his terms not injuries terms. The send off for Brad last year would be more then fitting for Chris when the time comes. Hope that time is not for a while yet.

Think what we are seeing now with the retirements last year and long term injuries ,is just how much damage they did to their bodies to make 4 grand finals. These people that say we were 'gifted" 3 premierships make me very angry. They worked darn hard to achieve them and are suffering for it now. Most of them are stuffed at 30.I hope both Chris and Nige can play for us again, they deserve that much.

okay, Personally (Some posters don't understand the meaning of the word 'personally') I was never really a fan of the scoot bros. The played hard. didn't cop any crap from players twice thier size, and were consitant. But i don't know how scott will play after being out for over a season now. We should give him another game or 10 before he retires, but his age will affect how well he can play these days. I rekon he will retire in the next few seasons. Good luck to him and hope he comes back for another few rounds!

Sorry, you weren't a fan of the scott brothers, but then go on to enthuse about the way they played. Huh?

He is on the long-term injury list,

No he isn't. The only player we've placed onto the long-term injury list is Voss as I understand. From what I remember he's aiming to give it a crack in about 5-6 weeks.

The Scott Brother's haven't done much in the 8 or so months that Kochie has been following AFL.
How many times do i have to ******* go over this?

I have seen games before the 2006 season. They had played good in most of them, but haven't overly impressed me. I call it 'player preferance'.

Fair enough. Just don't be surprised when your opinions about club stalwarts like Brad and Chris are met with a bit of hostility from people who have been supporting the club for a much longer period.

And don't be surprised if people question the use of good in the second sentence

I am sorry, I should've qualified my statement a bit, he may not be on the long term injury list but would be at least 'eligible' as he is currently out with an "indefinite" injury

The Scotts epitomised the fear and loathing our rivals had for us back in the glory days. If Chris can come back and pass on 1% of that aggro and rage and meaness (all legit mind you) to the young guys in the team today, then that will be worth a heap.So I hope, and reckon, he'll be back. (Prop him in the goalsquare with Browny... no-one will go near them!!)

Are you kidding me? Is this some kind of a joke thread?

Next somone will make a "Lappin - Time To Retire" thread

The Scotts have done the club great service in the past, I actually think Chris could fit into the current game plan quite easy, it would be like having another hard tackler e.g. fixter but better disposal and more experiance. Lets just hope he can get back from injury, for he is a club champion.

GO LIONS :thumbsu: :thumbsu: :thumbsu:
