Chris Scott Wants A Mid-Season Shutdown Implemented ............. What Bloody Next ???

Maybe we should do away with the head honchos for a while? (Same with the umpires but that's another story)

It's the first thing that needs to happen, cut away the grossly overpaid deadwood and bring in some grass-roots administrators who will do the job with the right intentions.

The AFL can very easily have a balanced draw. They dont want a balanced draw. They want to manipulate the draw for ratings and to protect the powerful clubs.

The other issue is some clubs are allowed to choose their opponents and when they play them. Its insane.

Allowing clubs to do that is completely biased and to a lesser extent corrupt, that practice has to stop immediately.

Whoever is the "fixture scheduler person" just does the draw in the off-season with no input from the clubs themselves. They cannot choose opponents or venues etc, however, they can make annual requests for blockbuster games (eg. Anzac Day).

Anything is better than the travesty that is this year. Teams have had 2 byes before my team even gets a bye. Ridiculous.

Worst AFL season in recent memory.

They should shut down the comittee in charge of changing the rules too.

100% agree.

They just keep making shit up to justify their positions.

Every team has the bye on the same weekend and throw the under 18 national comp on TV (like a carnival). It wont be the same numbers but I reckon quite a few would watch, might also get more interest from the casual fans on draft night if they can see what the next crops of future young stars can show.

I'd definitely get into it.
Should be 2 weekend break but State of Origin on the 1st weekend. If the players want to keep that break they must turn out for their States

Following weekend you can do U18 state games and a women's State of Origin.

As much as I would like to see it SOR is dead, clubs will never go for it.

Saints fly to Brisbane who have just come off their second bye....Saints yet to have one wtf AFL

Based on the way the article is written ..... "NO".

If what Scott is alluding to is just one bye for everyone in the middle of the season then okay but I feel he is angling for a bigger block of holidays like the German model.

One of the big reasons people want holidays, byes, rub & tug weekends, fancy dress events, themed rounds and all of the rest of the palava that has crept into the game is because the morons running the game keep extending the season by starting it earlier & earlier.

Run the season from the first weekend in April to the last weekend in September, clubs will just need to manage their players better, thats all.

Trim it back to a straight 22-round season with no byes including the one before the finals, this competition is a marathon, not a sprint. Bugger off the lopsided byes shown this year plus that ludicrous "opening round idea".

Once again, making another change to address a problem created by a previous change shows that the previous alterations were crap and should never have been implemented in the first place.

It's more than overdue for the nimrods in charge (I'm referring to you Laura Kane) to strip everything back & restructure it correctly (i.e. professionally, transparently & equitable to all) and then leave things the **** alone !!
Agree with you on the managing of the squad better. Done correctly and we may not even need a bye. There are what 35 players on a list....start using them all

The AFL are trying to be too cute with the fixture. The opening round zero is nuts! Shut things down after the King's birthday round or split it into two weekends. The problem the AFL have is they will think their giving the NRL a free kick, the State of Origin is all they've got. Who cares? Give the players a break.

Time it with a mid season draft and/or trade period they want so that the AFL is still in the news for the week. While giving clubs a bit of time to prepare for the second half of the season and perhaps list plan for that draft/trade period.

If we didn't have the rolling byes then I probably would not have got 100% in my tipping this week.

You could have all the interleague games, make it a real footy weekend, just minus the AFL

What do you mean by choosing venues? I would rather the clubs set where they play as oppose to the AFL

I support a mid season bye for all teams at the same time. However the "bye" week for finals teams between end of season and week 1 of finals has to go.
That finals bye opens up the betting markets.
There’s no way they’d drop it

The Round Zero idea is surely not happening next year?
I think they did it to take advantage of the NRL starting in America and more space for n free to air.

I think the NRL are locked into doing it for a few years

Except they didn't look at a calendar and see they went to America the week before Opening Round and still had games in NSW and Qld at the same time

Just like the WWE, which has more integrity.

Chris Scott wants to talk about anything other than the fact that his team is garbage

2003 had a mid season break. From memory, the talk at the time was that it gave a ‘free kick’ to the NRL. And it hasn’t been seen since.
