I'm not on the Yarran bandwagon. But I can understand what the club sees in him. At his best, he is an amazing talent to moving the ball and setting others up - absolute A grade. We simply don't have that, except for Lids. Lids is many times better. But Yarran fills a hole that we have in the team. He makes shutting down our run much harder, and adds variety and unpredictability to the team. I think he is the sort of player that is cream on top rather than the sort of guy you build a team around.

He is also a lazy sook, with a poor attitude. He has a record of patchy performance and whatever the opposite of leadership is.

So on the first paragraph he is a first rounder. On the second he is downgraded at least on round. If he really commits to us than he will be playing in a team where he isn't expected to lead, or win the game off his boot. He is another weapon in a fairly strong array. He reduces pressure on bachar, lids and possible frees Jack and BEllis up. I'm not very happy about getting him, but he could well be a major factor in us being more dangerous next year. In 2015 we had a great defense and only OK attack. Yarran adds nothing defensively, but might add 2-3 goals a game. That could win us a few more games (top4) and a nice %. So I'd be happy to trade 12 for him and 21. Not very happy, but it is a sensible and smart traded, which both clubs win.

(I'd still rather take Carlton out and beat the blue until it is black - But we can do that first round 2016 :D)

Funny thing is, when he weaves past 2 Carlton defenders in round 1 and slots a goal from 50 to put us a couple of goals in front, those who didn't want him will be yelling and cheering him on.

Just get the deal done tigers

It's time

I was hoping we'd be trading for someone with September in mind. We've pretty much had Carlton under control for a couple of years now.

Melbourne received Jeff Garlett and pick 80 something, Melbourne gave Carlton picks 61 and 79. Carlton used their first one on Clem Smith and passed on the other one. :drunk::drunk:
So they can accept peanuts for a guy who just kicked 40 goals at a rubbish club but cant take 31 for yarran

I think we should call in the mediators :drunk:

I think after Garlett & Betts etc leaving for bugger all & being a success that the Blues are trying not to make the same mistake again
hes not worth pick 12 alone

they can get stuffed

Yarran adds nothing defensively, but might add 2-3 goals a game.

I think this is a little optimistic.

His career average is less than a goal a game, and even adding to that his goal assists he'd have to hit career best form to get a 2-3 goal per game return.

I would have thought perhaps 1.5 goals per game average?

Has played a lot off the half back line mind you.
Can play very well at both ends of the ground and is good one on one.
Excited to add him to the team and is a walk up start in the 22.

Probably optimistic. But I was specifically talking about him playing to a high standard in our well functioning team. I also presented a fairly good 'why the f*$% get this guy case'. If it all comes together he adds a heap. On his own he kicks goals and sets them up. But he adds a great deal of depth to a fairly weak area of our game. Just having him frees up Bachar and Lids a bit. My 2-3 was him adding 1.5-2 plus the effect of others having more freedom adding another 1/2-1. That is best case scenario.

As much as I don't think we should trade our first, I think it is really important for future acquisition of players that we get this job done.

Yarran is not the Doosra (sic) but I believe his signature does help us to land the offie' down the track that goes the other way.

Getting players across, and more importantly improving them at our club is the first steps of becoming the desired "destination" club that other more recently successful sides dine out on at the trade table.

Wallet saying Yarran will play back

Bagging us over not having a forward pocket. He is right.

Idiots for not picking up Gartlett. :drunk:

Wallet has been tasting Barrett to often. We have 2 smalls developing in the VFL in short and butler, so to suggest we have done nothing to address it in 4 years is a joke. He does not mention we have Elton to replace Chaplin either.

I can see the sense in getting Yarran in as we have made a commitment to him and we have to be seen to do the right thing.
But I also hate the idea of Carlton bending us over.
On the first point we can be seen as being a reliable and trustworthy club. On the second we can be seen as being a soft touch.

One gets us the possibility of better players next year, the other gets us bent over for ever after.

It's a difficult one.

Although they are completely different games, it's a little like Man Utd wanting to get a player in from a little club like Scampaignerhorpe and Scampaignerhorpe dictating to Man Utd how much they'll pay and screwing them over.
It simply wouldn't happen.

I think their ruck points are valid but the rest of it is absolute dribble.

We were top 3 for defense this year, have Astbury/Elton for depth and we are recruiting Yarran as a forward.

The thread is bad enough without bringing Man Utd into it!!

;)

I would definitely give up 12 for Yarran and Menzel. Carlton don't have many but would definitely take Menzel as well. Other than that idea they should not be getting our first pick.
