Needs to have his best pre-season so we can push him into the midfield. Even when he's on one leg, he's still our cleanest player and suoer dangerous up around the wing. The likes of Simpson, Walker, Tuohy, Docherty, Buckley and hopefully Sheehan should give us enough options to release Yarran.

always a battle, speed vs endurance. If he gets a bigger tank he will lose some speed, also I worry about his hamstrings. Id prefer we didnt Rioli him. You need speed in the back half or forward half.

No sure about this one as Yaz himself has stated Half Back is his preferred position.

Why does a player lose some speed and rip hamstrings as the result of working on his endurance?

Other players have made the transition from flanker to mid-flanker.

He can afford to lose a few horses...

We need players who can turn games, make something out of a half chance and hit targets inside 50.

Deservedly, Yazz won the goal of the week by a fair margin for his goal v Geelong.

I thought he was really really disappointing on Friday. Much of the same, he hasn't really changed that much since 2011 other than maturing a little. Still very hot and cold according to how the rest of the team is playing.

He was poor but it should be noted that he shouldn't have been out there. He was pretty well playing on one leg.

He's had a superb season and to not give him credit for it - indeed to say he hasn't improved for a few years - is absurd.

Have to agree, I think we get really excited about the amazing things he does now and then but overall he is just not consistant enough for my liking. He is so talented but gets lazy and goes missing too much, he should be dominating games regularly.

Don't get me wrong i love Yaz and would want him at the Blues but if the right big time trade came up i'd have to let him go and i don't think it would hurt us that much.

Jeremias sick of hearing the injury excuses. Was he on one leg when he dashed away from Varcoe the week before as well? Or do we just use that excuse this week because he played poorly. Same with Hendo could have sworn someone said he was having an op at season's end (not the op he's had). Of course the injury didn't prevent him from dominating from time to time.

He is still the same player, just like in 2011, when he's on song he's a match winner but then he goes missing when the rest of the team is down. To me his improvement is judged on consistency, he was a game breaker in 2011 as well, he will only improve in my eyes when he stops going missing.

Not interested in making excuses but I am interested in looking at the facts before putting forth my opinion.

You can ignore all facts and jump on a player for a poor performance or you can try and understand why that may have been the case and evaluate accordingly.

It is not an excuse to say he was playing injured. No, that's an observation that would have been clear to all who watched the game with their eyes open.

Yarran strained his calf a few weeks back against the Suns which forced him to be substituted out of the game mid way through the first quarter.

Could well have been left out against Geelong but took the field and was in our best despite being clearly not at peak fitness.

It was clear on Friday night that the injury was still hindering him significantly. He appeared to be on one leg for the duration of the game and probably should not have appeared again after half time.

Yes he was poor on Friday but he was not alone and there was a clear reason for his poor performance. Did you see him limping around for the evening? Did you see him collapse in agony on the half time break?

In doing so was he making an excuse for the absence of his usual buzz, or was he genuinely injured?

Chris has had an outstanding season and we shouldn't discredit him for that on the basis of one poor showing on Friday night. He has clearly had his best season to date and should be awarded accordingly with a strong standing in our Best and Fairest at the end of the season.

To say he hasn't improved on what he has put forward over the past few seasons is just plain wrong.

I feel Yarran had a great 2011 as well. I have already explained to you IMO his game did not need to improve, his consistency did. I'm yet to be convinced. Sorry you disagree. FWIW I think you are plain wrong as well. :)

It maybe horse shit in your opinion but others beg to differ !
Yep I can live with that. I am just heartily sick of the same old rhetoric about Yarran being lazy, going missing, not doing enough, soft etc etc

I didn't agree with it before this year but in 2014 he has comprehensively proved that it is horse shit.

So horse shit it is.

So you are completely happy with his consistancy and work effort week in week out ?

Definitely picks and chooses his battles, and more often than not picks the option with least contact. Maybe that's a bit soft or smart and playing to his strengths. I would love to him to add some hardness to his game and I'm not talking about hip and shouldering someone who has the ball. I'm talking about taking a hit or physically impacting a marking contest or going harder than his opponent for a loose ball. However he has improved his consistency since MM had been around.

Good post however he needs to become even more consistant as no doubt he has the talent to do it. He has the talent to match anyone so imagine how good he'd be if he had the killer instinct to match !
