Surely missed the boat.

Would have gone for big $$$ when it launched like Ponting.

Now everyone knows he is crap and the IPL sides will be more disciplined throwing the cash around.

There were reports he wanted to nominate for the auction two years ago (when KP and the English players did) but said he wanted a base auction price of $1m which Modi apparently found very amusing. Hayden sort of confirmed it in his autobiography but not the financial amount.

The new contracts will require to home board to clear a player. So if CA says that Clarke is available for 3 weeks then he must play the three weeks injury aside. The whole picking and choosing will not be allowed. Additionally the home board will now receive 10% of the player's contract fee for releasing players.

I dare say he'll be picked as a left arm bowler to try and get through some quick overs

Would be handy at 9 pushing singles late in the game to get the other batsman on strike

Any Indian domestic player could do that. Only 4 internationals can play per game and Clarke would not ever be in the top 4 of a squad. Could be reasonable depth cover but I would expect him to only get $100k or so a year if he was selected.

If he gets offered 100K he should grab it and go, as that is a massive over-price for him. His bowling is poo in this format and as for his batting...

tonight is a perfect example. Now he wants to open and get us off to a crap start. When are the selectors going to show some balls and admit what everyone else knows- Clarke is not a 20/20 player.

He is a borderline ODI player too - rarely does anything special to give us an edge.
They should rotate the ODI captaincy for now and force Clarke to earn it,so far he hasn't.

Exactly. Same old story, so predictable too. White should be the 20/20 captain - at least he has actually captained a 20/20 side to victory and contributed at the same time.

But the selectors have no guts and will never drop thier captain.

Surely the only people stupid enough to pick him in a 20/20 team are the aussie selectors.

So true.

He denied us any chance of winning last night.

To open with himself and waste the first 6 overs is incredibly selfish. It's not brave or selfless, he's purely trying to develop his T20 game and find a spot for himself, but he's doing it at the expense of the side.

He should have the courage to drop himself.

problem is where can clarke bat?

at least clarke has said the selectors have to drop him, he himself wont walk. of course he's not gonna walk (no one does), but he's a smart cookie. he knows selectors will never drop him

There in lies the problem. Bring back Hohns I say, at least he had the nuts to tell blokes when it was time, ie. Healy, Waugh etc etc.

Ponting might play until he's 85 and let's face it who would walk away from the cash they get.

Clarke's T20 issue is that he does not hit the ball in the air on the legside. He should just acknowledge it and move on but the lure of the T20 $$$ means he can't / won't.
