Some players arent great for solo ability, but moreso what they do for the team. Goose settled our backline and his experience I think gave them confidence as well.

The great thing about our club champion voting system is that it gives reward to those who would normally not figure in the brownlow or other awards because they are backmen or more defensive type players. You can actually earn a vote for defensive acts and one percenters.

They said each player is rated out of 12 for each game (split into 3 categories of 4 votes each, can't remember what the categories are - something like defence, attack and sticking to the game plan), so a pass mark is literally 6. However, it does look like players were actually judged more harshly throughout the season meaning 5 was a reasonable return.

Hopefully the fact that Joel was pushed down the rankings and replaced with a small forward/midfielder and a midfielder/forward (what ARE those two?!) means that we're heading in the right direction as a team.

You would hope that defenders would be rounding out the top ten, not winning it. As much as I love defenders, it seems that if the team is going well than the more attacking players tend to rank higher.

A "fair" game was worth 1 point in each of the three categories, so I imagine a 3 overall would be a pass mark. *shrugs*

Maybe our coaches have higher expectations on what constitutes an acceptable performance on the football field .....
