I don’t disagree but as you as you are calling out all clubs now and in the past not just because you don’t like the Dogs now.

Remember the AFL were supposed to stamp it out when fines were given to staging but failed to follow through and the fines were weak anyway.

Up to the league to be strong (its hard enough for umpires)
Totally agree. Charlie Spargo has done it, Cyril Rioli and Paul Puopolo regularly did it. Grimes did it. Weightman is emphasised due to him being an absolute smart alec and saying ‘it’s an art’. I mean that’s disgusting. Did the AFL not look at that and deduce that that was a fairly blatant admission he is working it into his game? That should have rang alarm bells, it didn’t.

It could have cost the suns a game last night.

i'm not convinced he's a star in the making but the games i've seen where he hasn't staged he's still showed he's got the skills to be a good small forward, just needs to lose this garbage from his toolkit
He kicked 4 goals in a final against Essendon, all from free kicks. Without the staging he is an absolute hack.

No I'd suggest an increase in the fine amount is adequate, but whilst we have blokes only getting fines for punches, we can't be throwing suspensions at players for stages.
Why is a fine appropriate? You want to stop it, don’t you? Or do you not really care because he kicks goals for your club?

You stop this by suspending players who do it. End of story.

Wasting your time calling for the AFL to stamp it out when its used to aid getting a favourable result, just like all the other 'grey' left in the game thats often ruled for or against depending on who's playing.

Should just be an unwritten rule amongst the players, flop like that and you'll be ko'd at the next opportunity.
Thered by 1 on every team who'd serve a week to play enforcer against that weak shit.

unfortunately i remember that game and am still coping about the result but there's nothing much we can do now except having something happen about it & stopping it in the game

One of the great joys in my footballing life this year(mainly cuz Carlton are absolutely dreadful) has been watching my old man absolutely go off his rocker when Ginnivan is refused free kicks after almost having his head taken off. Weightman deserves the same treatment from the umpiring fraternity.

You try to play the system by making the umps look dumb, then they shouldn't give you the calls even when they might be there.

Or the AFL could try and not be a bush league shitshow for once in its existence and implement a perfectly easy solution rather than trying to let two wrongs make a right.

Umpires deliberately targeting players to not award free kicks to is borderline match fixing, even if said player is a diving flog.

Just have zero tolerance. Hand out fines and suspensions for repeat offenders and watch diving become far less of an issue. It's really not hard.

i don't remember much of his free kick situation but the fact they more or less stopped paying anything on him goes to show that they can change stuff, they just don't give a shit about it. this one comes to mind. it's a shame but i do hope they actually do something to change it

We all have players that drop the knees, shrug the shoulders, accentuate contact in the back etc but if you're taking yourself out of a contest you could still actually impact in a meaningful way (even if it's just a tap on or shepherd, or corralling the player who wins the ball) just to cheat a free kick then it's weak as ****ing piss and you should be ashamed.

Yep. And doing it off the ball takes it to an even more revolting level.

He is too good a player to be doing this flopping tactics, that's the most frustrating bit.

He can easily score goals, have an impact without trying to milk contact, I reallh don't want the kid to start having mental health issues because of all the public and media flak he cops for staging either..

Bevo needs to be better and discourage Cody from doing it
Is he good though?

Maybe.

But we don't know as the figures are fudged due to his cheating.

They are not idiots. It’s just a hard game to umpire. Very fast, lots going on. If you look at the clip- Weightman goes to ground and really throws the head back- so I can see why the ump paid it. But really - they need to be tougher on those who contribute to the fall or tackle and they need to stop paying high tackles to people who throw the head back and exaggerate the contact.
It needs to be a week off. They won’t though.

Sydney had 101 tackles and zero HTB calls. Absolute robbery to anybody with eyes.

The AFL even said the umpiring was below standard. Do you know how bad umpiring has to be for the AFL to come in and say that?

Ignoring the fact you are treating this graphic as fact, 5 extra frees does actually matter in context
I’m not treating it as fact, and it’s not a graphic, it’s several pages of analysis which is more than I can say for the typical sheep that runs with the “game was rigged” without actually contextualising what they’re saying. If you’re running with the “team x had y tackles so they should’ve had some calls” then you haven’t analysed the game and shouldn’t comment on it.

Honestly, this is probably the first time this season I can remember Cody Weightman going to ground a bit too easily and getting a free kick. Dogs supporters had been saying that it was good to see him keeping his feet and staying in the contest longer this year.

Hate it... Joe Daniher does it for us occasionally, he throws himself forward in a marking contest when feeling the slightest contact, he's not good at it, it's pretty obvious that it's simulation, he rarely gets a free kick for it.
