Coldplay - Violet Hill

I wonder why they felt the need to go down this path where every song has to be this big 'atmospheric' thing? Don't they listen to Rush of Blood and think, 'that was actually pretty good?'

eno has lost the plot

distorted geetars are way to big for a wimpy voice like martins..the lead break is so amature and the melody doesnt realy go anywhere.and whats with the first 40 seconds. Epic Fail at trying to be interesting. coldplay.you still suck:p

Did they have a chat with Ricky Martin to decide the album title or what?

"Viva la Lida" is a reference to the 1954 painting of the same name by Mexican art icon Frida Kahlo.

I'd say A Spell a Rebel Yell is more of the change in direction that they've spoken of than Violet Hill. I like the b-side better

First off you can enter a comp here (http://www.coldplay.com/msg/) to have an all expenses paid trip to NYC to see Coldplay.
Secondly, there is a puzzle on that site, and songs are being sent slowly.

I have Lost! and Viva la Lida which are off the new album, if anyone wants them, send me a PM. They are really really good.

What do you mean songs are being slowly sent?

I have Violet Hill, Viva la Vida, a crappy version on A spell a Rebel Yell and am d/l Lost? now...

anything else around?

Having the first listen of it at the moment, not a big fan of Coldplay so I'm suprised that I'm actually enjoying it. You can definitely tell Eno was involved, has his fingerprints all over it.

Gee not a lot of love for X&Y in here... I must admit I loved that album when I got it. I don't subscribe to the theory that if it sounds like "radio" songs then it is no good. You don't have to be "different" and "individual" to be good.

As for Voilet Hill, like many others on here it took me a while to get into it, but I do like it now. Also, the track Viva La Vida is great! Will definately be buying this album.

My top 5 Coldplay songs:

1/ Swallowed In The Sea
2/ Fix You
3/ The Scientist
4/ 'Til Kingdom Come
5/ Don't Panic

EDIT: Forgot about 'Til Kingdom Come, the hidden track from X&Y. LOVE that song!

Viva la Vida has to be their best album. Only A Rush of Blood to the Head comes close in my opinion.

Strawberry Swing is my favourite track. 42 has an awesome intro but it's not as epic as people were saying. Death and All His Friends is awesome, the part at the end when Chris Martin is yelling is so insanely good, the guitar is also great, very uplifting.

In conclusion, great great album, way more "musical depth" than X&Y.

Viva la Vida = Best song by a mile off the album.

2 listens, hmmmmmm
lets just say i wouldnt spend money on it, maybe it'll grow on me

i really cant believe theyve incuded Life in Technicolor as a song, now im all for instrumentals but that song is so similar to Viva la Vida it's rediculous. Basically just the same song but shorter and without the lyrics.

Their attempts at epic songs simply dont work. Sticking 2 poor songs together does not make a song clever.

Terrible band.

Shocking 'music'.

The ming boggles as to how junk like this can be rewarded with a recording contract,

Who are your favourite bands then ____.

Why dont we judge your music?

Try with bands that have actually held gigs with more then 10 people at hey champ.

Why do people continually judge bands by how many albums they sell or how many stadiums they fill? It has nothing to do with the quality of the music.

And whats funnier is that the above person doesnt even know what or who I listen to. So I have no idea what they are on about.

Well i reckon it does?

A shit band wont get a wide ranging demographic at their gigs.

Yeah, i know you'll say some crap like "oh spice girls used to sell out world tours" and they did.

But i reckon on of their gigs in the 90's would have held the same crowd.

Go to a gig with a decent band, and you see a wide range of audiences there. Young people, older people. Its always a good indicator of a good band.

Genuinely, indie bands have inferior tunes for whatever reason, there tunes aren't good enough to branch out to a wider audience, which the fans and the bands paper over by saying we're 'alternative' or the other chest nut "original".

A band like Blur started off on the indie circuit in the 90's, but there tunes were good enough to break out into the 'mainstream'. I pay very little time to tinny sounding Indie bands, you put all indie bands in a room, and the ironic thing is, they all LOOK the same and they all SOUND the same :eek::eek:

Alternatively, their music is too complex and subtle for morons to understand? Or, most people don't have the patience, the songs are too long, dark, depressing, strange, whatever.

Personally i'm coming from the post-metal/post-rock/dark ambient angle. But you could say the same of alot of indie bands.

You going to sit there and tell me there are thousands of acts out there better than, for example, The White Stripes? Because if you judge solely on mass appeal, and ticket/album sales, as you are doing, then that is the case.

Its a balance though, you don't need to be popular to make quality music, and you don't have to make quality music to be popular.
