Collingwood and Richmond - who has the greater supporter base

Just a reminder: Terms like “Minnowmond”, “Shrinkingwood”, “Dwindlewood” and the like belong on the bay, not the main board. Same goes for referring to either team as a minnow, when clearly neither fits that description.

If you see stuff like this, don’t respond with more of it. Click ‘report’ so we can deal with it.

Experiencing both Richmond and Collingwood fans at the Gabba, my impression is that Collingwood fans get a bad rap. They're usually very enthusiastic about supporting the Pies but seem normal enough if not a bit rough around the edges. Richmond supporters are genuinely sub-human. It is always a nightmare when Richmond play up here, their fans are feral.

So my vote would be the Pies.
They’re ****n weirdos

…… And the Essendon supporters are definitely more refined and travel in good numbers in a very orderly and respectful manner always 😂

It's funny, given this is our last bastion of relevance, whether or not we have a bigger fan base, coz let's face it, on field we've only achieved success very rarely. We've been really poor yet are the highest profile sporting club in the country.

Yet a fan base of a recent dynasty team seem implored to argue it.

Rent free I guess.
Opasan is example a.

Can someone from either club explain to me what glory there is in ‘being the bigger club’ or having more fans?

Why do you care?

And yes I know some halfwit - more than likely a Tigers fan - will say ‘you follow a minnow club so you won’t understand.’

I don’t really see how that would be relevant so just answer the actual question.
Reading through all this dick-swinging, this is what I was going to say.

Plenty of 'minnow' clubs have seen a lot of success, and plenty of 'big' clubs have been failures.

Geelong weren't any sort of big powerful club when we had our golden run. North were a 'minnow' when they had their successes in the late 90s. Hawthorn were literally on the verge of merging/folding only a few years after one of the greatest premiership runs in history.

Meanwhile 'big clubs' like Essendon and Carlton have been starved of glory for two decades. And Richmond were the laughing stock of the competition before 2017.

'Being big' means nothing compared to success.

Brian Taylor during last night's broadcast suggested that Richmond have a greater supporter base on a national scale than any other club. This was after mentioning Richmond had 10,000 people watch them train at Glenelg.
Is that why SEN had to buy 500 tickets to the Swans v Tiges game to give away, seeing how strong Richmonds drawing power is.

wow 500 tkts lol we still had 42K+ attend.

What is it with Pies fans being so insecure and always trying to downplay a damn good crowd.

Rich, coll, cats and Blues had the most traveling fans. But hey don't let the truth get in the way of a good yarn.

2 more years of this and they'll be back playing home games at Princes Park in front of 7000

Your on a wave at the moment but it can change as you know and your mob will likely get back to 20K+ crowds at the G :p

Collingwood attracted their smallest crowd to the MCG in 76 years on Friday night when just 20,320 fans turned up to watch the game against Fremantle.

And I was one of them. Took the whole family over from Melbs. It was a great day well more than I can say for the actual game. Apart from the 3rd qtr 7-goal blitz, we were very average.

You love comparing to Collingwood, then why not show what Richmonds lowest crowd is, I think it's about 7k isn't it?

Lol, you will never see me here instigating anything, you do realise it was one of your pies mates who posted some 7K crap not sure why but hey I replied back with a pies-low crowd which seems to have rattled you. Oh, if it's 7K or 10K at princes park so be it when was it 30+ years ago  Pies 20K was just 6-7 years ago at the G.

You don't rattle me one bit, make me laugh, yes.

The reason I replied, because it looks to me you think you have this big gotcha moment, but got check your lowest crowd v WC, at the G.

You have been in this thread from the get go, I think you may be the rattled one.
