Looking at the Collingwood list of 2014, I am struggling to come up with 6 elite players, let alone 10!

The Top 5 would be:

Pendlebury, Beams, Cloke, Elliott, Sidebottom.

After that it becomes very hard...

Swan has been a fantastic player, but surely his best is behind him?

Lumumba really only had 1 good year. He is mediocre at best now.

Blokes like Macaffer, Toovey, Fasolo, Dwyer, Goldsack, Blair are honest, but nothing special. More C to C+ stock.

The big man situation is not all that healthy. Apart from Cloke, what do they have? Witts, Grundy, Keeffe, Reid (Too injury prone & has only had 1 really good year) are not the type of KPPs to build your team around. They tried to strengthen this area by picking up plodders like Lynch & White. It just didn't work for them.

Sure the Pies have a few talented youngsters in Langdon, Seedsman, Adams, Broomhead, Sinclair, Kennedy, Thomas, Frost, Scharenberg, Freeman. But yet again, most clubs have talented youngsters that are coming through.

IMO, the lack of depth & class in the Collingwood list, was the biggest reason that they missed the finals in 2014.

True & it wasn't meant to be a troll. But we all know how Collingwood supporters (Not you it appears) massively overrate their list.
It's not a troll, it's not amusing, it's just fact = main board bullshit.

How many overrated elite players at punt road?

This is not about Richmond. It's about Collingwood's list. Not even going to compare the two lists.
Lock this shit up then if we cant have an actual discussion.

Great thread

Cloke certainly didn't look too "elite" this year. How many five dollar bills are they pissing away on him again?
Not as many $5 bills as Porkins spends at KFC

Maybe Cloke should take note, because Hawkins shits all over him. Only 39 goals and no spot in the AA squad after he bent you over in contract negotiations? Giving him that much money was about as good a decision as throwing out your experienced, premiership-winning coach for untried FIGJAM.

Silly Collingwood, Mick sure is producing the goods where he is now :thumbsu:

Actually thought he had his boys playing well as a group towards the end of their season.
Camaraderie, backing each other up, open respect for each other, yadda yadda.
Didn't really get the same vibe from the Pies, maybe it's Maxwell hanging up the boots, maybe it's Mick leaving or perhaps it's just Naiyfe and his national socialist way of going about things.

With all that said I will not be one bit surprised to see the Blues finish above Collingwood next year...

Yep they sure were playing well when they got beaten by Port by 103 points 2 games ago

If we have no other elite players, then a big contract like Cloke's hardly matters right?

From the OP's summation, we'd struggle to hit the minimum Cap spend without the foresight of Cloke to help us out with a massive deal

Always thinking of others first that Clokey, two thumbs up :)

I think you chose to miss the point.
Sure they got flogged by Port but seriously did you expect any different.

Nah, but the point is Mick had them playing better as a team towards the end of the year.
Of course he's gonna experiment and risk a few things once 2014 was done and dusted and I know you understand this.

He's slowly getting it together same way he did at the Pies.
The guy knows what he's doing, all he needs is time to get the process up and running, but you already know this.

So, Carlton show healthy improvement by dropping off the face of the earth after playing Finals

The Pies finish a game out of the 8 after being smashed with injuries... and they are doomed

Got it :)

Hardly what I said though.

I see he's getting the process in order but they do not have a list nearly as good as what Mick had at Collingwood. If they lose Casboult and Waite as well as Garlett and Robinson who is kicking the goals in this team in 2015?

It's the common perception though

I was very nervous about the Pies after last year, but have much more respect for Buckley after this season. He's building a future. Although we tailed off in a big way in the last 8-9 weeks, we still managed to be in the mix into the last game. Not too shabby, considering that of our 3 key defenders for the entire season, the most experienced started the season with 10-12 games to his name

After last year, I thought late last year, Mick was actually starting to wake up and take the task of turning Carlton around seriously... then proceeded to take the "we are almost there!" mindset. He even spoon fed it to Judd, making him believe that this shit house effort was "the closest we've been to competitive" since Juddy got there :O

I've thought for about three years now it's time to prolong Juddy's career by biting the bullet and resting him up forward in a pocket somewhere.
No one can accidentally kick to space as cleverly as he does...

Well so long as the Earth is slow and the ox is patient the piece of bread will still be there...

Henderson, Judd and Menzel. I'm sure every defense in the league will be quivering with fear at the thought of that forward line ...
