Collingwood-GWS poaching war?

For those of us who can't stream media at work, can someone elaborate on what was actually said?

I'm thinking that tactful Sheeds is at work here. Although they're star players and will greatly add to his team, he wants Collingwood players as it might stir up some rivalry between his new club and the Pies which usually equals dollars. Everyone has been trying to start a rivalry with the Pies for the past 10 years knowing that the dollars potential is massive.

Hawthorn have tried but we usually beat them so no rivalry yet.

A bit of argey bargey between Sheeds and Eddie.

Sheeds basically needled Ed about GWS getting at least one of Swan, Pendles or Thomas.

Ed returned fire by saying he'll look to grab a bunch of GWS 17-year-olds in a few years time.

Also, after Ed had a crack at west Sydney region, Sheeds had a crack back about how long Eddie lasted living in Sydney.

Pretty entertaining stuff!

i don't think eddie calling gws "land of the felafel" is too bright.

i think the 17-year-olds playing in front of 10,000 people in GWS may be compensated by the $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ on offer...........

How?, isn't all the money going to who he poaches. The 17 year olds are on a realtively normal wage in AFL terms aren't they?

We all know how heated Eddie gets when it comes to his Pies but Sheedy has no class at all McKenna did a brilliant job lets see how many people like Eddie come end of the season when his going in to bat for clubs like Melbourne like he has always done that lose these great young talents because it wont be fair what Sheedy will be doing he could atleast have some class about it

Ed used to do the same thing with Choco over the jumper issue, when they were 2 great mates hamming it up (like Sheedy & Ed are now).

This.

Get publicity in the Sydney media, get the people of West Sydney to hate Collingwood and consequently take an interest in the Giants.

Sheedy probably rang Eddie up and asked him to do it.

Thats funny, I distinctly remember Collingwood pinching Nathan Buckley and Anthony Rocca from the Bears and Swans when they were a year or two in their careers. Was this fair to these clubs?

If you go have a look we actually traded for both of them and they did ok out of it

We have had plenty players we have lost for nothing over the years we lost Anthony this year for nothing

No its not fair but its apart of our game and the least he could do with all the power he is being given is have some class like Mckenna did so we will see how much you love Sheeds when he goes after a Hurley because Sheeds is a bitter old man and watch him try and get the Bummers back for sacking him

Completely different.

Nathan Buckley made his intentions well and truly clear before he even joined Brisbane that he was only going to stay for one season and move. North Melbourne was very close to getting him before Collingwood swooped.

Anthony Rocca was a melbourne boy who got drafted to Sydney. After his contract was finished, he wanted to return home and play with his brother, who happened to be at Collingwood.

Collingwood did not "poach" or pay over-inflated odds to entice these players to move with extra $$$$$ in the salary cap. Both players made their intentions to leave.

I won't hold it against a player that has informed his club that he wants to leave for reasonable reasons but it is completely different when someone like say Tom Scully is potentially going to earn $1m per season as a second year player, particularly as a club like Melbourne cannot afford to upset the apple cart by going anywhere near close to matching that offer.

I'll think you will find both had specified they wanted to play for Collingwood...period and that both had to play one season at the club which drafted them to remain within the rules and two to keep themselves from facing extreme sanctions threatened by the AFL at the time to "back-up" the Draft process.

Basically no different than if I forced you to have sex with a fat hairy bloke, so that he got some (at all) for a period of 12 months before you could marry the woman you loved.

Collingwood poached no-one, they were ours from the start and the AFL whored them out to make a point to young players about not attempting to influence their own signing into servitude at the whim of the Draft.

Not really the same as Ablett say or Jolly for that matter falling out of love and going for the slimmer, sexier new chick.

longest sentance ever.

You can take Daisy of the GWS list

Does the fact he says he was never approached mean another Pie had already signed or alternatively Scully and Murph so no longer room for another big name?

Collingwood's Dale Thomas has denied speculation that he could be playing for Greater Western Sydney in 2012

OUT OF contract Collingwood premiership player Dale Thomas has laughed off speculation that he could be on his way to Greater Western Sydney next year, saying he wants to remain a Magpie and is more interested in premierships than money.

The 23-year-old is believed to be high up on GWS' recruiting list with Giants coach Kevin Sheedy warning Collingwood they were likely to lose a premiership player to the AFL's 18th franchise.

GWS are also believed to be targeting Thomas' teammates Scott Pendlebury and Dane Swan.

Thomas told Nova radio he had not been approached by the Giants and had no intention of leaving the Pies.

"It is my last contacted year, I don’t think it is my last year at Collingwood," Thomas said on Thursday.

"I think it is funny that the papers have written all this stuff and we haven’t heard a thing.

Thomas and Collingwood have yet to start official contract talks but the midfielder pledged his allegiance to the club.

"I haven’t signed, I haven't spoken to even our club ... let alone Greater Western Sydney," Thomas said.

"You can tell Collingwood to start talking contracts if you would like, that would be fantastic.

"Do I want to be at Collingwood? Yes ... for as long as they will have me. It is not all about money, the football business is about winning premierships."collingwoodfc.com.au

Im sorry McChins but no players will give a rats if they arent playing in front of 100,000 if they are offered 1million+ per season.

Is Eddie against expansion? Land of the falafel.. What a moron.

Surely he realises that every club can potentially lose their best prospect, or does he think there should be special rules for Collingwood.

Nathan Buckley actually belonged to North Melbourne. North were the first to discover Buckley but as he was from NT he had to goto the Bears for atleast his first season with the zoning rules enforced by the AFL. North then approached the Bears and said pick up Buckley for a year and we will trade *Cant remember who* with Buckley after the 1st season. All the contracts were signed before Buckley was drafted, So officially he had signed to be a North Melbourne player in his 2nd season of AFL. After the Bears picked him up in the draft the AFL heard of this deal and didnt approve as they called it draft tampering, so the contract was then deamed invalid, and so, Collingwood got Buckley. The Bears never really had or wanted Buckley to begin with.

Eddie is such a petulant child.

"If you do it to me, I'll do it back so neerrrrrr"

And you are a gullible child for actually believing this is anything more than publicity stunt.
