Wind it back to my original post, and explain to me what gave you the right to attack and try to offend me ? What gives you the right to do that? Who do you think you are?

The only logical explanation is as I described that you are blinded by your wokeness and that your IQ as close to zero as you can get.

You sought confrontation, so I gave you exactly what you wanted. Nothing in my OP gave you grounds for your statement. And even if it did you have no right to offend people.

I get the point they’re trying to make, Essendon 2021 also won most of their close games. That said there’s more to it than numbers though. While not the case in all our close games on a few occasions the close margin didn’t feel like it reflected our dominance throughout the match. I hope we can find some killer instinct to put sides away.

Left field decision, which isn’t a problem unless the decision is about virtue signalling and not about improving onfield performance.

Part of the problem in this society is posts like this that question the appointment just because she’s a female.

It couldn’t possibly be accepted on face value as a good appointment based on merit.

What exactly about her extensive experience working in football makes this left-field? Or is it her gender
Gender is irrelevant to her role and performance.

My main question would be that her experience has been predominantly media, communications and marketing.

I would have expected the Head of Football Operations to have primarily direct operational experience. Merely working in football doesn't mean someone is qualified for every role in football. This doesn't mean she isn't capable or likely to succeed.

However, experience relating to the role is worth querying. That is typically how you measure merit in a hiring process.

We should be able to query that regardless of gender.

That's right. I also think the 'close games' thing is a little overdone because the team & game plan didn't really click until halfway through the season, after we'd already lost 5 games.

If (and as always in sport, it's a big if) we play with that sort of form across the whole season, then losing an extra couple of close games would be offset as we wouldn't have the poor efforts of our first 9 weeks.

I think the amount of close games the Pies won was because of fitness and belief in the system we were playing, Sydney I think played their GF against us and were never a chance v Cats.

I know most people expect us to go backwards next year but I think they may be surprised, of the gf teams I do not expect either of them to improve and the Dees we will see what happens there,Freo have made many changes and not all for the better.

I think the Tigers,Blues,Saints,Port,Lions will improve but I still think we will be around the mark, both the Swans and Geelong played their GF,s played their respective finals against us I just hope we can start playing a few games v Sydney at the MCG instead of up there every year.

Good point and those first few losses included taking it up to the cats and lions. Depth was a question in ‘22, which impacted in a couple of places (Roughead retirement, Dean injury, Mihocek injury), but we’ve looked to strengthen that for next year.

Yes, generally these positions are filled by ex footballers…so left field.
Maybe it is the fact that these positions were filled by ex footballers might mean a 'boys club' and not really bringing any other expertise beside having played the game?

No biggie for me, will just wait and see how it pans out although would it have been any more 'left field' if it were a male that wasn't an ex footballer?

That’s she’s previously worked at the hawks while Wright was there is good enough for me. Wright would have first hand insight into her capabilities.

I don’t know why the gender of the person appointed to this role required commenting on in the first place. Fair enough to question any appointee’s qualifications or experience, but we don’t even need to know the gender. Irrelevant to this position.

It would be nice if her media background led to our social media team somehow becoming competent (recognising that this may not be under her watch in the footy operations role).

The quality of output doesn't come close to matching the size and scope of the Collingwood Football Club.

I get the point the writer of the article is trying to make as well, but what they neglected to mention was our superbly competitive finals series proved beyond any doubt that our narrow wins were not "flukes" at all.

Running eventual premiers Geelong to within a few points, beating Fremantle and losing narrowly to Sydney at the SCG speaks volumes to me about how competitive the Pies were in 2022. Or winning season was no fluke, as is borne out by our 2022 finals record.

Get real Vicky. The role involves liaison. It has to be a women as they're always talking on the phone and liaising in one form or another.

You forget to include ‘gossiping’. We’re good at that too apparently.😳

In my book in that scenario also left field. I never said it couldn’t work, I merely questioned whether the decision was made on merit. Recent history suggests my question is valid.

Rumours had been that Anderson has wanted out for some time.

That's right. Seeing some people surprised on Twitter, my understanding was that this had been on the cards for some time.

Although I was under the impression that he was going to stay on until we had someone suitable lined up. Unless it was the other way around (stay on until he had a new job offer).
