Hmmmm, not too sure what I think about that this early in the season. He's been a useful team member since his resurrection but he's 1 that I'd like to see usurped from the senior team.

You'd have to assume there was some element of reducing his 2020 contract by providing an extra year. Something like instead of the $500k his last year was reportedly worth, he get's $700-800k over the 2 years.

That's exactly what it is. While he probably deserves an extension, this likely has an element of spreading the cost of his contract.

Pleasing news. He's been fantastic the last two years after suffering a humiliating first year.
Here, here.
Gotta admire his grit.

On a different media topic, I find it hilarious that our footy department/players have turned down the opportunity to be involved with 'Eddie Everywhere' and Amazon's doco push into AFL (see Sam Maclure's article in the Age : Magpies say no to president Eddie's pitch (24/2/2020)).
Perhaps a sign of real unity of purpose among the team.

Koch said he had not spoken to Collingwood counterpart Eddie McGuire, but pointed out that Port board member Cos Cardone was chief executive at McGuire Media.
McGuire refused to be drawn into speculation when quizzed on it on Tuesday.

“I can’t say anything … it’s just not appropriate for me to speak at the moment,” McGuire said on Triple M.
“I think having the second-biggest company in the world involved in football is not a bad thing at a time when things are dropping off and the media is under pressure.”
Individuals would be paid for their time through management companies, but clubs will receive minimal financial windfall.
The AFL Players Association expects their constituents will receive 28 per cent of every cent the AFL generates in revenue out of the deal, as per their landmark CBA agreement.

Amazon’s expectation that all 18 clubs would be involved in the series hit a hurdle when Collingwood’s football department declined the offer.
The Magpies were given a presentation by CEO Mark Anderson and football boss Geoff Walsh, but it was decided the filming of the series could be an unnecessary distraction.

The Eddie tantrum after not getting his own way would have been worth seeing.

Quite possibly - I have no idea what he's like out of the public eye.

In any case, I like the idea of the playing and coaching groups resisting the likely pressure in order to focus on the normal goals of a footy team.

First and foremost - classic Collingwood footy department to not want to take part in a media exercise that isn't in-house.

Second - major conflict of interest vibes from Eddie. Involving himself and his media business in a product that will have an influence on football clubs that are rivals to the one he presides over, as well as the fact that he's a major media presence through Foxtel and Triple M which are benefactors of the current rights deal.

Eddie has too much power

No one man should have all that power!

But seriously, you've got to admire Ed. When he's not putting his foot in his mouth, he's doing a lot right.

That is True. He done some Great Things for the Club but has a Big Case of Foot in his Mouth]

I wonder how long it will be before Beams gets his life membership, part of me wants it straight away because that would mean he is a retired player but then I think stuff him after the way he has carried on.

Ian Cooper is listed as having played at 183cm. Either he's shrunk since his playing days, or someone got his measurement wrong! Sharrod Wellingham (185cm) appears to be considerably taller, and even Jarryd Blair (174cm) seems a fair match for him height-wise!

I should add, congratulations to all involved!
