Well, according to The Age, we have ZERO talent coming through:-

Note that at the start of the article says "We have ranked each of the under-23 groups, based on top-line talent but also depth, proven performance and potential."

Then it puts Brisbane at #3 with star upside from Levi Ashcroft (has played 0 games) and North #1 with star upside from Fin O'Sullivan (has played 0 games).

I mean, sure there's no potential from Cochrane, West or Hayes... idiots.

The more they underestimate us, the better, imo.

+ Nick Daicos might have some potential?

18. Collingwood

Not even Nick Daicos’ brilliance makes up for the Magpies’ shallow depth of quality young players. Harvey Harrison played 12 games in a breakthrough season for him, but it will be interesting to see where he fits in 2025 on an experienced list, along with the likes of Fin Macrae, Ed Allan, Jakob Ryan, Harry DeMattia, Ned Long and Tew Jiath. Dan Houston’s arrival might limit the chances for Ryan and Jiath, while Reef McInnes inked a one-year deal after a lengthy wait for a new contract. Developing ruckmen Iliro Smit and Oscar Steene won’t expect to push for AFL selection next year behind Darcy Cameron and Mason Cox.
Already a star: Daicos. Players with star upside: None.

Tew Jiath, Fin Macrae, Wil Parker, Reef McInnes, Harvey Harrison, Oscar Steene, Ed Allan, Ned Long, Jakob Ryan, Harry DeMattia, Nick Daicos, Charlie West, Joel Cochran, Will Hayes, Iliro Smit.

What a bunch of dickheads. Do Edmund and Cornes ghost write there now. :tearsofjoy:

If you're a journalist and constructing some kind of formula ranking junior talent, then putting the potential of our latest draftees at the same level of say a Levi Ashcroft would have been daft. I don't see a problem.

The reality is we have the oldest list in the competition now, there is a price to be paid for that and our recent Premiership success. This coupled with limited access to the best of the best junior talent (outside of Nick) and it's hardly surprising we're ranked where we are in this article.

We need to hope Hine has unearthed some hidden gems with our collection of late 1st round and onward selections, because it'll be a better than average strike rate of quality found at the latter stages more than a reliance of quantity (North Melbourne, Richmond) taken inside the 1st round that could see us through.

So long as all our boys are good enough to win flags.
The last 3 have been sides full of role players with a smattering of stars, mostly 100+ gamers.
1990 we had Francis and Russel as star young bucks, 2010 was Sidearse and Beams and last year was basically Naicos and Jaicos in the Young star brigade.

Flags > "stars"

I agree, and don't really see what people are so upset about.

Harsh on Allan and Jiath tbh. If you’re looking purely at upside those guys should be right up there.

They'll have to eat their words when Ed wins the Norm, Will Hayes snags 3 from the pocket, and Charlie kicks a bag.

It is easy for the journalists or should I say, "Copy Writers" to pass judgement and not exercise any critical thinking to our list, our age profile and the talent we have that will surround these younger players. It is also easy for us to ridicule those same "Copy Writers" for their opinions, especially as they do not align with ours.

What I am grateful for is the excellent motivational material they have provided Fly, the leaders with the team and the younger brigade themselves.

It will be interesting to see who and how they respond to these assessments. Just as interesting will be how we hold these same "Copy Writers" to account for their lack of judgement, all based off a lack of research, analysis and critical thinking.

Harsh on Harrison, kid has massive upside, I hope he gets some games in this year and runs through the middle at some point. I think he’s so underrated, he’s been playing forward and still a few vets ahead of him in the middle. He’s an inside mid that can go forward, his highlights are impressive and he knows where to put the ball, quick hands, speed to burn.

Allan has all the traits when talking potential and I would agree with Tew and will get a better gauge on him as he fills out more

Not sure I agree on Harrison. I think he has the tools to become a very good player, but not the attributes to be listed under that “star” upside category. Allan and Tew though, both have the tools to become genuine stars imo.

Harrison is grouse.

But he’s a 21yo who has played 16 games and is around half way through his recovery from an ACL.

He can fly under the radar.
